Stayed for two nights at Nueva Vida for our honeymoon last September. You will definitely get the cabana experience! Our cabana was "La Ola" which came along with a free coconut tree in the shower and was at the foot of the ocean. The staff was very welcoming and gave us a pineapple and chaya drink as we walked in. We loved how they have their grounds set up, you definitely get the jungle-vibe.

Our cabana had a porch with a hammock :) Just know that there's no AC as this is a true cabana. What I appreciated is that the ceiling fan was inside the mosquito net. Our room had a poor connection to wifi, but the lobby's was good. They even have a small library and board games. Either way, this is a great place to simply disconnect from it all. You will do to sleep with the sound of the waves.

We arrived right after a huge storm which the whole restaurant side of this area was flooded. Still, they went above and beyond trying to accommodate us. Their staff contacted La Zebra restaurant next door, which they provided us with an amazing breakfast each time for free.

One amazing experience we had here was due to the turtle sanctuary that was right next door to our cabana. The security guard let us know when the volunteers were ready to set the baby turtles free into the ocean at night. We held baby turtles in our hands and watched all 70+ turtles begin their journey.

Will definitely recommend for couples looking for a different experience than your normal hotel stay.

Room Tip: You need to be open to not having AC, have sand be all over your floor, and possible bugs come insid...

We stayed here two years ago and had to return. We were not disappointed. Stayed in Horizonte Perdido (suite #2) for 3 nights and Tenura Corizon (suite #27) for one night. Both rooms were great for individual reasons. Nueva added wifi to the rooms - which is a great addition from last visit.
#2: you can't get any closer to the beach without being on it, second floor gives great views, wifii reception was only adequate and you had to be on the north side of balcony. Much more breezy than set-back rooms - which helps with keeping down bugs.
#27: I was told this is the room that the wonderful woman at the front desk gives to her parents. First floor, set back a little from beach but a very nice room. Excellent wifi signal throughout and a triple balcony adds flavor. Outdoor shower is very nice.
Entire staff at Nueva was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We asked for and received breakfast on our balcony every morning - what a way to start the day.
Casa Banana restaurant across the street was excellent. The grilled calamari with guacamole was unbelievable. We got it two nights in a row. Steak and fish are superb here also. They have a great espresso machine for morning java.

We stayed in Pasion marina, which had great character and amazing views. The staff at Nueva Vida was very pleasant and helpful. Great location on the beach in Tulum, probably the best. We rented bikes several days, which allowed us to visit the ruins that are a few miles away and travel into town to pick up supplies.

We stayed in La Ola, and wouldn't hesitate to visit again. We loved the rustic charm, the gauzy mosquito netting over the bed, and the huge expanse of windows. The view was spectacular, and it felt very private even with other cabanas nearby. We were very tempted to spend our entire time in Tulum just sitting on our porch, enjoying the view. We had a tree in our shower (intentionally!), which I thought was really fun. There's still plenty of shower room even with the tree. The breakfasts, delivered to our porch, were just what we needed after a week of travel and heavy meals - a small loaf of bread with jam and butter, a couple slices of sweet bread, fresh tropical fruit, coffee, and juice.

My only complaint was the heat. We were comfortable during the day, but too warm at night even with the windows open and a fan (in fairness, I like a COLD bedroom). This is to be expected with a cabana with no AC, and it wouldn't stop me from staying at Nueva Vida again, but it is something to keep in mind when planning your trip.

A few things that weren't problems for us, but that you should be aware of: all the tap water is brackish. You get one large bottle per day of drinking water, and can buy more for a reasonable price, but by the time our 3 days were up, I was ready for a freshwater shower. Because of the electrical system, the lighting was dim. I thought it was romantic, but it may be less than ideal for some. The bed was hard, but that was the case at most of the hotels we used, so I doubt you'd do much better anywhere else.

All in all, I can't wait to go back.

My sweetheart and I reserved "Beso," a cabana a short walk from the beachfront in order to have more privacy. Beso was a large room with added room for toilet and shower and a superb veranda with table and two Adirondack chairs. It came with a refrigerator, two gas burners, a small sink, and most everything we would need to feed ourselves when we wished. And we wished often. The beach is gorgeous. The king bed was firm and comfortable and protected by mosquito netting. We were well treated by staff. We tried Casa Banana, the restaurant across the road, but were bothered by bees. My sole complaints were: (1) probably because we were set back in the greenery, I was badly bug bitten, though the bugs seemed to leave my Sweetheart alone; (2) a request for an early wake-up call was not met; and (3) a nearby resort had music one night that was loud enough to disturb our sleep well past midnight; we could not shut it out. Little things: The room would benefit from a pair of bar stools at the counter. The thatch leaked when the rain was intense, so we had to circumvent a puddle near the door. We needed a corkscrew and better knives, bought them, and left them for the next occupants. Nueva Vida is located far enough down Boca Paila to make us glad we rented a car; the resort has free parking! My Sweetheart had a great time and would love to go back. I need to find a better bug repellent.

Room Tip: I wish we had paid the extra cost for beachfront.

We stayed at Nueva Vida for my husband's birthday in May. The location is absolutely spectacular, and the view from our hammock on our balcony was unbelievable.

We stayed in suite 1, which is the first floor of the first building, instead of its own bungalow but we hardly noticed anyone else around, and it was so nice stepping down right into the sand.

The beach itself is beautiful, and the hotel has chairs and sun beds (but you might want to get out early to get some shade - those spots are limited). They also have waiters to provide service either on the beach or to your balcony.

The hotel is very well located -walkable to almost everything on the beach strip, and possible to bike or taxi to Tulum Pueblo or the ruins. We ate a delicious breakfast of fruit, warm bread, and homemade papaya-melon jam every morning, either on our balcony or at the very cute restaurant across the street (which was also a nice place for a drink after dinner - we never ate dinner there). The breakfast was possibly the highlight of my husband' trip :)

The room itself was very nicely decorated, but definitely no frills (there aren't any electrical outlets except in the lobby, so no hairdryers and you can only charge your phone in the lobby - if you still care to check it) and it can get a little hot and sticky at night if you lock up your balcony doors. But the place is so relaxing we really didn't care about any of that.

The staff was very friendly, we always felt safe and taken care of, and our stay was very affordable, especially compared to most of the other resorts. We had a really wonderful time and can't wait to go back.

Dear ascott375:

Thank you so much for your review, we are sorry you did not find the electrical outlet, all our rooms have at least one, yes they may not be where you would normally find them, in your room case it is where the floor fan is plugged. Even though there is an outlet you are right about the hairdryers or irons, they are not permitted since our power comes from solar panels and aeolic energy, so any appliances with resistance will cause a blackout in the room. But charging phones, computers o tablets is no problem at all. It would be great to have back with us again!

We spent 5 nights in the Corazon section top floor palapa room. It was the most romantic vacation. We were a little bit concerned about no air conditioning but it worked out just fine. Its not 5 stars to say the least but it is magical and hope it doesn't follow some other area resorts and become too prohibitive financially. We loved the property and remember it is very laid back so services are minimal. Great restaurants within walking distance and a magnificent beach are a major draw. The natural beauty of the area makes it worth the trip and quite frankly hope it never changes . My hope is they never sell it to a 'hipper ' hotel . There is a uniqueness and authenticity that is just marvelous. It is not for every type of traveler and think thats ok. There are plenty of places that cater to that type of clientele and I really appreciate that this is not that. We will make sure to return soon as we travel to Mexico frequently and plan to continue. Restaurant Casa Banana was ok.....decent...could def use some improvements ...It is pricey for what it is. Its not bad but its not great and I think it used to be and needs a more grass roots approach to greatness. Sometimes the best things are the most simple and Nueva Vida has many of those elements. I prefer in general to focus on the positive experiences and not nit pick every little thing to find fault. Overall it was a wonderful experience .
