just spent two weeks and enjoyed my stay well worth doing the upgrade platinum then you never have to have the buffet dinner your can book every night the food was good and the staff were always there to help it is a large hotel but not a bad walk and not as long as people moan about
our Thomson reps were really good and helpful I needed to see the doctor and glad I did could not put this hotel down

I truly was reluctant above an all inclusive but when I visited it truly was amazing. The quality of service, food and drinks for the value is unmatched. I was there in September 2013 and plan on staying next September.

If you're going here, an upgrade to the platinum suites is so worth it. All was great with the exception at check-in where they messed up the reservation.
The a-la-cartes were superb except the Mexican restaurant where the service was unbelievably terrible.
Overall though, this is one fine resort.

Room Tip: platinum upgrade is so worth it.

My friend and I were impressed with this Oct 16-22nd 2013 stay at Grand Sunset Princess. The ride from the airport (45mins) was fine because it was worth it! Some folks complained about the room check in (with a couple of hours) But then if you want a great, clean presentation, enjoy the surroundings. You could change your clothes and your luggage was well looked after. The room (Deluxe Jr Suite) was modern & beautiful, well maintained, always clean, fridge restocked daily. Staff...ALL super friendly & helpful. Pools are wonderful, entertainment, GREAT FOOD! You must book for the special restaurants so plan your "nights" and do that asap. Buffets were incredible every day!

Room Tip: No complaints! Just be careful when wet (marble floors!)

It was my first stay at the Grand Sunset Princess and throughout my many travels, the Princess is one of the most beautiful resorts that I have stayed at. I was there for a 2 week stay, October 13th to October 27th, and I rate this resort "First Class". Being there for 2 weeks gave me the opportunity to experience life on the resort and savor the numerous a-la-carte-restaurants and buffets.
Check in and check out went as smooth as silk, the entire staff at the reception area were courteous, friendly, and would go the extra mile for you if needed. The concierge service was top notch.
I stayed in a "deluxe junor suite" and upon entering the suite for the first time, my heart stopped beating. Total luxury! It is a HUGE suite, with a jacuzzi in the bathroom, along with a separate shower area. King size bed, small fridge stocked daily with soft drinks, bottled water, beer, etc., T.V. with Spanish, English, and Italian channels, a two seated couch to relax on, plus a table with two chairs to enjoy your snacks. You have a beautiful large balcony with two wicker chairs and table to sit, relax, and enjoy the peaceful evenings. There is even a bar mounted on one of the balcony walls to hang your swimsuit or towel to dry. The suite was fully air conditioned and you control the temperature that is suitable for you, along with the lighting in the suite, you choose which part of the suite you want lighted.
I had the opportunity to eat many times over at the 2 gastronomical buffets, for breakfast, lunch, and supper, there was a vast variety of dishes to choose from. Fresh, savory dishes, absolutely delicious, music to my palate. The a-la-carte restaurants that I ate at were; La Vaqueria (Grill), Miso (Asiatic), Mama Mia (Italian), La Hacienda (Mexican), La Fondue (Swiss), Las Olas (Seafood). Gourmet dishes served in a first class ambiance with impeccable service. For the a-la-carte restaurants, you have to book in advance, and you can book up to 3 days in advance.
I have never seen so many beautiful swimming pools, looking at them, swimming in them, and walking amongst them, reminded me of beautiful pieces of turquoise, and at night time when they were lighted up, was purely magical.
The Grand Sunset Princess has no part in the excursions that are booked by the operators who have their offices in the resort (e.g. Sunwing, BD Travel, etc.). Your dissatifaction should be forwarded to various operators and not the Princess staff.
I commend the service provided by all the staff, from the gardeners, to the shuttle drivers, to the bell boys, to the room maids, to all the hard working waiters/waitresses and bartenders, the life guards, security guards, management, and everyone that has a part in this "First Class" establishement.

We stayed At Grand Sunset Princess Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico from Sunday, October 20 thru Friday, October 25. There were 4 of us, (2 couples), two Deluxe Junior Suites with jacuzzi on the Sunset side of the resort. The resort is absolutely beautiful and very, very large. Lots of walking...too much walking! Wristbands, towel cards and reservations required a la carte didn't make for carefree, relaxing vacation. $20 charge for lost towel card. No card no towel. Towels are cheap, worn and ragged. Room not stocked with basics like other all inclusives. No toothpaste, mouthwash, body lotion, razor, shave cream, Kleenex, or robes. Only one tram to serve both Sunset & Riviera side of resort, usual wait 15-25 minutes. Many upcharges. No beach/ocean view. Food ok, not great. Wine was awful. Mixed drinks had funny taste. Staff friendly. Beach tacky & filled with vendors that harass you all day. Won't stay here again and can't recommend. Too many all-inclusives that are better. Had fun despite drawbacks.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your comments with us and Tripadvisor’s Travelers.

We are very much regret that we could not meet all of your expectations, our property and staff work every day to make our guests’ stay a special and a memorable one, and we are sorry that it was not the case this time.

We also informed the departments involved in order that they make the proper adjustments on their service.

Despite your initial impressions, I do hope we can correct our shortcomings and invite your family back in the future for a seamless vacation from arrival to departure.

Best regards,

We went from Oct 2 - Oct 10. It's about a 1.5 hour bus ride from the airport. We got there at 11am but couldn't get a room til 3pm. It's a very large property, get a room in the middle. Most of the restaurants are at the front near the lobby. It's not easy to find a chair at the beach. The food at the buffets were ok. The tappenyaki was the best a la carte, fondue was not so great. If you're looking for a real 5 star, this isn't it.

Room Tip: ground floor in the middle
