Wow! Salsa, guacamole, pork pastor, bean soup, homemade corn tortillas. They do not serve rice or any seafood. I told them to bring me their best chicken dish. Flattened and grilled chicken breast served with guacamole, cup of bean soup, small baked potato, roasted pabplano pepper with cheese. Every table was served pico, tomatillo sauce, ranchero sauce, chips, radishes, limes and sautéed cactus.
Nothing fancy, but wonderful food. We may need to eat there again this week.

Such a great meal on our last night in Playa del Carmen. As many others have mentioned, the al pastor was delicious in everything. We had mostly tacos (al pastor, both the regular and a special one which was enormous, and chorizo) as well a chicken quesadilla and a side of guacamole. We didn't think the drinks were anything special, but they were fine.

As you can imagine, we ended up getting way too much food - partially because it was so inexpensive! - but they boxed up our leftovers and we had a nice snack the next day.

Definitely not a fancy place, but a great causal and seemingly local dinner spot. Highly recommend.

First timers to Playa and to El Fogon. Chose it due to trip advisor reviews. It's well off the beaten track and through a number of streets that you wouldn't otherwise venture down at night but it was worth the walk there and back (from 5th avenue). Downside is no English menu but that makes it extra authentic! Also no air con and it's very hot upstairs. Food was great for a genuine Mexican meal that we wanted and was very cheap for the set menu we had. Very glad we made the effort to find it in the dark. Would happily revisit!

If you are looking for over played 'tex mex' or real authentic 'American Mexican Food' at a high cost, this is SOO not the place for you. If you are looking for awesome, real Mexican food at an almost ridiculously inexpressive price you gotta come here. The tacos al pastor were simply amazing and the margaritas are the 'ish.' It is a little bit of a walk from the traditional tourist area. But we did not travel to Mexico to eat and shop in replicas of American restaurant and stores. This place is well worth the walk and if you want a real taste of Mexico, you need to plan a visit. We will be back!
