“not impressed - got sick”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2012

I actually signed up to be a reviewer so i could share my experience of this restaurant. based on the reviews i trekked over to eat. first i ordered the sort of sampler plate with a little of everything (120 pesos) it was wayyy too much food for one person. it had lots of variety.but three ham steaks? anyway i started feeling sick and had full on "turista" within two hours.... could have been something else..but careful when eating meat in Mexico...just saying..

“Best tacos of my vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

I had tried "Los Tacos Bar n' Grill" earlier in the week due to a higher Trip Advisor rating, but I feel El Fogon was better. We started with guacamole and drinks. What a treat of color in the place from the paint color on the walls to the salsas and the plates of condiments (lime, radish, cucumber). Local street performers pass through the restauarant serendading in a non-obtrusive manner.

For dinner, the tacos al pastor were fantastic and wish I could have more right now! These were certainly a highlight. Fajitas platter was the most impressive of our vacation with half a grilled/baked potato, guacamole, tomato slices, grilled giant scallions, and a side cup of soup. Mushroom and cheese tacos were delightful as were the chicken quesadillas. If craving a chorizo taco, order just one to start. A lot of the salty meat and a few tortillas served for each order.

Very warm service without incident, and I would return in a hearbeat. Some reviews have talked about less than responsive service for Americans, but I didn't see it. Doesn't hurt to speak a little spanish. Finished the meal with the only dessert of the night, the flan. It was very good. Overall a very satisfying meal and worthy of the visit. Will return next time we are in Playa.

“True taste of Mexico”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

For the best local cuisine, try this restaurant. Nothing to look at but the food is muy bien. Dress lightly - there is no air conditioning - but don't miss it. We had a blast.

“Local Quality Cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

Wife and I went to Fogon on recommendations from Tripadvisor. We were not dissapointed. I tried the "Pastor" or pork which was excellent. This trip to Playa we tried to find great places away from the tourist "traps". Local people, local food etc. My whole family was pleased, kids too! Nothing fancy, just quality and reasonable.
