“Amazing!”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

I was travelling with friends and family in November, we arrived to the hotel late, it was dark and raining like hell – generally quite a bad start of a beach holiday :) However when we were shown to our rooms we all had the same reaction: WOW! The beach, even though narrow, is nice and not crowded, plus you can take walks along the beach as there are other hotels lined up there. Rooms are really nice in terms of all design, size and sense of privacy. Staff is unbelievably attentive & friendly, without being in your face, and they are so good with details. Even the food in their restaurants is good – something which I genuinely didn’t expect as I’ve had bad experiences in terms of food in many other “top” resorts.
The property is basically amazing. OK, it’s a bit expensive, but you are paying for the quality of your experience. Would highly recommend it!

Words can not express how great this place is. We went for 5 days to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary. Besides the weather for 3 of the 5 days not being that great, we have never had such a relaxing vacation. From the minute you arrive, to the hello Mr. and Mrs xxx, welcome home, to the welcome drink, to the tour, to the friendliness of the staff, you feel like someone special. Their attention to detail is over the top. Everyone knows your name, where you ate the night before, where you are eating that night, etc. They take extra good care of you there to make sure that experience with them is unforgettable. the personal butler, is a fantastic touch ... he helped us out with an evening trip to Playa del Carmen for dinner and arranging a taxi service for us ... every last detail was planned.
We had dinner one night in the wine cellar - absolutely fantastic. It was just the 2 of us and our waiter, with a pre-planned from home menu. It was a very nice evening, with great food and great wine. When we got back to the room we had desert delivered to the room courtesy of the hotel that was so tasty.
We had a lagoon suite, that was very private. The private pool is so amazing and lets you just relax and sit back at your hotel room, and not have to worry about other people. Although the hotel was full, it was very quiet and peaceful at the pool and the beach.
The spa is absolutely breath taking. we had the couples massage on the island - it gives you a great view, is very peaceful since you are away from everyone and everything else.
A trip that we will remember for a very long time!

Room Tip: Lagoon suite - very private and beautiful rooms

I can write tons about this absolutely AMAZING place. Everyone has written the details so there isn't much more to write. We spent our 10th anniversary and 8 nights here. I wish we could afford to visit more often but then maybe I wouldn't appreciate the absolute luxury you get here. There is nothing left undone. It rained tons while we were there but we had no issues just relaxing in a beautiful room. We had room 304 which was close to the main part of the hotel. After our eco tour I would have to say I was very happy with our location. Tho we were a few mins from beach the lagoon rooms (cheapest) offers the best privacy for your plunge pool area. The beach front rooms have zero privacy from the beach. I even saw a naked behind when I walked the beach (seriously!) We had a surprise visitor while we were in our plunge pool a "creature" popped its head up over the edge…. turns out to be a Coati. Iguanas are also pretty popular here not my fav creatures. Nothing like one popping its head out of the bush beside you while eating breakfast!!!

I have to say the beach was not great. Rocky and murky. Murky could have been because of the rain but the rocks are there to stay. Beach area also very small.
Def use Rosewood's SUV transportation. It was only $125 each way. The food was surprisingly not overpriced. The cost of wine was shocking so we stuck to tequila which was wonderful. The Japanese restaurant was good but not great. Punta Bonita was our absolute fav.
We took a taxi to several places
Playa Del Carmen - not worth it at all. Very tacky tourist trap.
Xel Ha - since we were in Mex for 8 days we needed something to do and it was just "ok". I wouldn't go back. Snorkeling in a lagoon which was very murky. It felt a bit dirty.
Talum - Hot and humid. Be ware of the scams and traps here. We got sold a boat ride which was a major rip off.
Overall the Rosewood sets the stage for unparalleled luxury and if you leave the property NOTHING will compare and you will be disappointed :)
Can't wait to go back!
Did I mention the SOAP???? sooooo good.

I am here staying at the Rosewood Mayakoba in suite 408 an overwater lagoon suite that is so incredible it makes me giggle...Single, or couple this Suite is the most perfect spot for an incredible hotel experience.
Large comfortable living area, desk Flat screen TV, wonderful bedroom suite.. and the bathroom is amazing with Indoor shower and outdoor shower under the stars and a Tub for wonderful bubble baths..
On the outside patio there is a plunge pool a fabulous double lawn chair and it looks right into the lagoon, which is surrounded with with nature, birds, turtles, fish, butterflies and other little things.. like Tahons.... Just amazing...

Room Tip: Over water Lagoon suite, #408 is wonderful.. private and convenient and so special.

My Wife and I stayed at Rosewood Mayakoba for several nights last October and had a wonderful time. When it is cold outside or our kids are acting up we find ourselves thinking about the plunge pool, cabanas, and countless other things we thoroughly enjoyed during our stay. While Hawaii may be our preferred destination, Rosewood Mayakoba is our favorite property. My only concern is that we have fallen in love with a property that is too expensive to visit as often as we would like but we hope to return soon and see all of the improvements made since our last visit.

Service: The service was exceptional and is where this property truly shines. Everyone we met was great and remembered our names after the first day. Several employees also wished us a happy anniversary which was quite nice. Every guest has access to a butler which seems a bit over the top before your visit but becomes invaluable during your stay -- serving as your single point of contact for reservations, recommendations, and anything else you might need. Our butler, Russell, did a phenomanal job and unfortunately could not be smuggled back to the states to help us on a full-time basis.

Value: I sincerely wish the price was lower so that we could return but you can certainly make the case that the high cost is warranted given the accommodations, service, and grounds. For example, every room has significant indoor and outdoor space as well as a plunge pool. I have been hard pressed to find a comparable room at another property at this price point however some people will find it difficult to spend this kind of money and not have an ocean view since most rooms are on a network of "canals" a few minutes from the beach. We actually appreciated the unique layout of the property and felt that everything else made up for it.

Sleep Quality: Our sleep was average. The bed was comfortable but the air conditioning did not work properly for two nights which disrupted our sleep. The staff made every effort to fix the problem and was quite apologetic about the situation. Once the air conditioning was fixed we slept quite well. In addition, it was easy to sleep in our cabana at the pool since the resort was relatively quiet when the pharmaceutical group (occupying most of the property) was in meetings or off-premise.

Cleanliness: The rooms, restaurants, and grounds were clean and well-maintained. We never saw the cleaning personnel despite coming and going from our room throughout the day. I didn't ask but they may have cleaned when they knew the room was unoccupied -- not just cleaning "the next room" as is done at most other properties.

Location: Rosewood is one of three properties in the Mayakoba development located a short 45 minutes south of Cancun and within close proximity to a sizable town and attractions. We appreciated the layout of the resort and were always able to find a cabana at one of three pools. Our only gripe was that the beach was not as walkable as we had hoped but that may be outside the property's control and may benefit guests by reducing outside traffic and improving security.

Rooms: We were upgraded to an ocean front room which lacked an outdoor shower but had a great ocean view and was in close proximity to the ocean pool and restaurant. All rooms are well appointed inside and out. My Wife spoke highly of the bathroom and we loved the plunge pool and outdoor seating.

Spa: The spa treatments were nice but the highlights were the hot and cold plunge pools in the locker room and other amenities. The exercise facility was clean and had a good variety of equipment. A personal trainer is available upon request and there are yoga classes by the pool.

Food: Breakfast and lunch were great. Dinner was good but could have been better. Mexico imposes a significant tax on wine so do yourself a favor and drink tequila or don't look at the price.

Other: The theme dinner we attended was quite good. Our connection was booked through Rosewood (luxury SUV) which was quite nice and set the tone for our stay.

Discussions with friends and family BEFORE our trip: "We have decided to go to Cancun... No, a nice place 45 minutes south of Cancun... Yes, it is safe... The rooms look awesome... Each room has something called a plunge pool, I think it's like a big bathtub... No, we are not ocean front... We have our own butler, how cool is that?... No, we probably won't have a use for the butler but how cool is that?"

Discussions with friends and family AFTER our trip: "Awesome, just go... We were transported to our room on a little boat where we met our butler, how cool is that?.. We called our butler five times a day, everyone needs a butler... the place was amazing, look it up... they gave us a green mojito which was the best drink I've ever had... they cleaned my sunglasses, put cucumbers on my eyes and massaged my temples -- it was awesome... some of the best ceviche I have ever had... service was amazing, they knew our names... i think they were cutting the grass with hand clippers -- that's how well they take care of the place... pharmaceutical reps get a little rowdy after a few hours of drinking... complimentary cabanas throughout the resort, you don't even have to wear sunscreen if you don't want to"

This was our honeymoon. Can't say enough good things about this fabulous establishment. Everything is perfect. The accommodation itself is breathtaking even if not on the beach. Spacious, luxurious and absolutely impeccable. The staff is eager to help and please. Always smiling. They all remember your name and what you like. They always brought us our coffee before we asked. We would show up at the bell desk and our car would arrive within seconds. The restaurants served amazing food. All of them !!!
The spa is absolutely incredible. You can enjoy the facilities at your leisure; hot tub, sauna and steam bath...
I would go back anytime !!! Actually, I wish I could live there.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon back in July and it was AMAZING!!! I cannot begin to tell you how amazing this hotel is. The customer service was absolutely perfect. From the minute they shuttle you into the hotel up until your departure, you will be treated like absolute royalty. The staff is extremely kind, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. They were at our beck and call.

We couldn't decide between the Rosewood and the Banyan Tree, so we split our trip and stayed at both. I honestly wish that we'd only stayed at Rosewood because it was so much better. Banyan tree simply did not compare. If you're trying to decide which hotel to stay at-choose this one! You definitely won't regret it.

Rooms:
We stayed in a Lagoon Studio Suite and we loved it! The jacuzzi and private baths were extremely romantic for honeymooners. The rooms were modern and immaculate. The staff cleaned it perfectly each day.

Food:
The food is AMAZING at this hotel. The breakfast buffet was really good. We ate here everyday without regret. We ate at the Punta Bonita every night and even went back after we were disappointed with the food at Banyan Tree. Punta Bonita's staff was incredible and food was DELICIOUS-authentic Mexican food! They catered to our food allergies as well. The ambiance in the Punta Bonita is like none other, as you can sit and eat while the sun sets and you look out at the beach.

Overall, my husband and I had the honeymoon of our dreams and we couldn't be happier with the Rosewood. We will definitely be going back in the future. Thank you to the management and staff!
