We made our reservations online and with trepidation. Finding the perfect family holiday get-a-way is never easy. We are active parents and not-so-active teenagers who are most happy when they are with friends or on their iphones. On so many levels, the Rosewood was an amazing choice for us. First, the Rosewood has this overall feeling of well-being and generosity. The room rates are high, and everything is a la carte -- but the hotel does a great job with free bottled water at the pool and at the beach, frequent tastings from the chefs of food or special drinks, and soothing treatments of cool towels and cucumbers as one relaxes in the sun. Further, the towels are fluffy and unlimited, and there are great chaises, umbrellas and even "beds" that are available at no additional charge . . . but definitely, first come first served. Guests get free use of bikes (only shortcoming is that there are not quite enough bikes, again first come, first served). And, even the sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling are all gratis at the beach.

The food at all of the restaurants is delicious if sometimes a bit adventurous. And, the chef will be sensitive to any kind of food issue. Additionally, unlike neighboring properties, all of the restaurants are open air -- with beautiful breezes, fresh air and amazing views.

The architecture is sophisticated and simple. The rooms are so clean -- and the cleaning staff even folds and hangs the clothes for you. Our rooms each had their own 'plunge pools" which were very warm. Additionally, every day, more fresh fruit and other small treats are left in the room. There is free wifi everywhere - even on the beach (good for teens who imessage their friends back home or on neighboring resorts).

The Spa is amazing -- the treatment rooms are spread amongst the lagoons and the tropical forest. A beautiful and relaxing experience awaits. There are outdoor movies at night for the kids . . . I could go on and on.

We did not have a chance to play tennis but the resort does have nice courts which included an additional special "padel" court that is smaller with different racquets. Neither did we have a chance to play golf though there is a beautiful course.

So, nothing is perfect . . . how would I improve the resort? We would be sure there were enough bikes so that every room automatically got two. It's a bit spread out, and there is nothing more fun than riding a bike on vacation, especially when the hills are small. We would also love a non-fancy food option. Like a sandwich shack. A place where one could get a small meal without spending $100. And, where one did not have to deal with the whole waiter thing. FInally, we hope the Rosewood expands its pretty workout room. Almost everyone at the resort appeared to be a fitness fanatic and there were long waits for treadmills. More space would be great.

But, overall, we were beyond spoiled and pampered. There is plenty to do in this part of Mexico; we felt safe the whole time. The Rosewood occupies a beautiful spot on the ocean and surrounded by lagoons and lots of natural flora and fauna. It's a wonderful retreat and fun all together.

We stayed 5 nights at Rosewood and loved it.
We have been lucky enough to stay in some great beach resorts and we both thought the villas were some if the best we had ever seen. They were incredibly spacious and luxuriously furnished in keeping with the setting. The bathrooms were huge with his and her sinks, large open showers and the biggest hot tub round baths we had seen. There was also an additionally outdoor shower area.
The bed and lounge were super comfy. The outdoor space was excellent- great view of the river in front of us that runs through the mayakoba properties and a great plunge pool which was always hot - perfect for an evening sunset drink.

The resort has a great beach front pool set up and also a quieter beautiful pool area near the main building. We enjoyed spending time at both.

The service throughout the resort including your own personal villa 'host' was excellent and the staff do the most they can to make your stay relaxing.

The only point we think could do with a little improvement is the food - it is fairly costly and whilst the quality is good, there could be a bit more variety. Food is good but not exceptional.
However the nearby Banyan Tree helps with the variety of dinning options.

We would recommend the resort to couples and families.

I've been lucky enough to have stayed at tons of luxury properties and Rosewood Mayakoba is definitely one of my favorites. The grounds are beautiful and well manicured but the service is outstanding. Our personalize butler Alma, even brought a stuffed animal for my toddler. She was always anticipating our every need and definitely made our stay stand point. Honestly we were there for 5 days and never left the property, there was no reason to.

The private pool with the room was fun, needless to stay my 2 year old never got out of it. We stayed in the deluxe lagoon suite and it was huge with 3 showers, we especially loved the outdoor shower. The pools were beautiful with great service yet again but I have to say my favorite was the spa. Its large, spotless and definitely calming. I had the 90 minute facial but I think I was in there for at least 2 hours while I dozed off. The sauna, steam, etc are included in the room rate so I would recommend go every day.

The only think there is room for improvement is to have a microwave in the room especially for traveling families that need to warm milk for the kids. Beyond that, excellent all around. Also the breakfast is great so don't miss out on that.

Room Tip: Don't miss the spa or breakfast.

I stayed for 2 night in a beachfront site. It was stunning! Luxury luxury luxury ! Every suite has a butler.. And they really cater to every need (almost to the point where I wanted to say "stop asking! I'm fine!) very inquest experience with the lagoon and boat ride to room (saw a crocodile in water on the way). It's a VERY large property and next time I would ask for my own bike so I could get around easier. I received a tour of whole property so I can tell you all rooms have their special beautiful qualities even if you aren't on the beach. The breakfast buffet was amazing and even included a gluten free table, and a kids table. Each guest receives a cool bottle of tequila and one night they put a monogrammed pillowcase on my bed! WOW!!!! If you are looking for tip top of the line, and money isn't object... This is a great place to go (note it's very romantic, and about 10 minutes from Playa Del Carmen). This is the type of place you would lock yourself up in with your partner and be pampered.

We like to think of ourselves as pretty discriminating travelers (stay at a lot of high-end places in Europe, Asia, Caribbean). This hotel stands apart. We just finished a week here in late December, pre-Christmas. The staff are extraordinary. Everyone from the groundskeepers to the restaurant staff know your name and recites it, every time you walk by; knows what activity you have planned each day; even your food allergies. Their attentiveness is extraordinary. (Every room is assigned a "butler" who manages activities, restaurant reservations, etc. Our first room was a tad noisy, because of a neighboring child. The staff moved us without questions to a super quiet alternative. Travel around the resort is accomplished via golf carts -- we never waited for than 2 minutes for one.) The rooms are gorgeous, modern and generously sized. We stayed at a "lagoon studio" but that term does not do justice to the large proportions, private outdoor space and plunging pool (heated 24 hours a day.) The place oozes romance -- each room has a giant indoor tub, indoor shower, outdoor shower and private upstairs outdoor space, reached via a spiral staircase. The food is very good for a beach resort. Breakfast (included in our per night price) is especially strong, with fresh homemade croissants and breads, a breathtaking array of fresh fruits and made to order Mexican egg entrees that are uniformly delicious. We used the spa for massages, which were quite good. A private spa pool there (no kids allowed) offers a great ways to spend a few hours. There are no extra charges for a variety of things: tennis, including court, balls and rackets was gratis. So are the water bottles and ice buckets, refreshing beverages and ice pops at the beach. So is use of all the spa facilities (hot tubs, cold plunge, sauna, steam room, gym.) Our quibbles are of the tiniest sort: the beach is a tad bit small, for a resort of this quality, and will be crowded during high season. The beachside pool is filled with children most of the day, which can make lunch at the adjacent restaurant there a bit harrowing. The ocean here is pretty rocky in places, so consider brining special footware. The meal prices at the main restaurant are quite high for dinner, so we ate at the beach restaurant (wonderful) and Agave, the very good seafood joint. Rosewood recommended dinner at the two nearby notes in the same giant complex. Both were good, though not great. Eating at Rosewood is your best bet. Though a journey to the Fairmont (think Vegas, cheesy) and Banyan (an Asian-themed hotel) remind you that have chosen the best hotel in Mayakoba by far.

Room Tip: The lagoon studios may sound small -- they are not. They are plenty big, with private pools, outdoor shower and upstairs private space outdoors.
