Playa Palms Beach Hotel

It's new, clean, small and perfectly located--four qualities that are always at the top of my checklist.. Playa Palms has a cool, boutique feel to it. I couldn't believe we found this gem right on the best part of the Riviera Maya beach (except for the scuba boats moored in front). And then at night, we would walk a couple of blocks and be right in the best part of Fifth Avenue. It makes for a great walkable vacation. And the staff is so friendly and willing to help every visitor get the most out of their stay. I'd go back to Playa Palms in a minute and maybe this time it will be FREE!

My husband and I stayed at the Playa Palms Nov. 18-23. The rooms were adequate and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was great. One of the quieter spots on the beach and a 5 minute walk to all the action on 5th Ave. We stayed in an Ocean View Studio on the 3rd floor closer to the street. We could definitely hear the night clubs on our patio, but in the room, with the AC on, we didn't notice it at all. The beach club next door came over and served us on the beach and the hamburger and fries were very good. We snorkeled straight out from the hotel and actually saw quite a few fish. Just walk out to where the water starts to get dark. We plan on going back to Playa and we would stay at the Playa Palms again.

We stayed at the Playa Palms Hotel for 6 nights and it was amazing!! You cant get a better location, right on the beach about 3 blocks from the main drag (5th Ave). Our room was great; clean, spacious, the little kitchen area was perfect they even provided a huge thing of fresh water. Little fridge, toaster, microwave, hot plate, coffee machine even had plates, glasses, silverware... everything expect shot glasses but we picked some up pretty quick. By far our favorite part was the our balcony, 2 chairs, table and the best hammock ever. We spent a good amount of time every day chilling out there watching the ocean, you can even see the lights from Cozumel.

The staff is very friendly, they would make little towel animals everyday and put them on your bed. Victor and Carlos were awesome, helped us with directions, even called our airport transfer to make sure we would get the airport on time.

We are hoping to go back to Playa del Carmen next year and we will be for sure be staying at Playa Palms!!!

WOW!!!!

My friend and I just got back from spending another incredible week at Playa Palms. Life just doesn't get any better. These folks bust their butts for you. Especially Victor and Carlos. Our rooms were always clean, towel art on the bed everyday, luggage taken care of, transfer arrangements made, wonderful daily dinner suggestions and the list goes on..... When inquiring about large group arrangements, we were escorted directly to Natasja's office and spoke to her directly about accommodations.

All we wanted was to kick back, relax and be well cared for. Don't get me wrong, neither one of us are high maintenance; we just wanted to lay on the beach, drink and eat. And that is exactly what we did...every single day. Edwin from the restaurant next door took care of getting our breakfast every morning. Huevos Rancheros and bloody mary's while sitting on the beach is wonderful.

There have been some negative posts re: construction, night club noise, musty smell etc... Yes, you may experience some of these things, but the positives totally outweigh the negatives!! If you are truly consumed by the beach and ocean then you won't even notice what is going on around you. As older women, SAFETY is our number one issue. We felt very safe at the Playa Palms. They have at least a dozen employees working during the day and security is top notch at night. We felt safe not only at Playa Palms, but also along 5th Avenue. Again, location, location, location is what it is all about. Playa Palms is perfectly located on the beach. It is only 12 blocks or so to the Ferry Pier, 6 or so blocks to Wal-Mart or the Mega store and a couple of blocks from 5th Avenue. Everything is an easy walk. And if you should need a taxi they only charge a couple of dollars around town. Can you say PERFECT???

If you decide to go to Playa del Carmen and stay at the Playa Palms I would suggest you pack a couple of swimming suits, a couple of pairs of shorts and tops, 2 or 3 books and sandals. Do not check your bag on the flight down there (that way you don't over pack).

One other quick note: I flew into Cozumel this time and took the ferry across to Playa. It was a nice change. The airport hassles are less in CZM. There was a short drive to the pier and it only cost $5.00. The ferry ride was $12 or $14, then I walked to Playa Palms (about 12 blocks) from the pier in Playa (taxi charged less than $5.00). My friend flew into Cancun and was extremely pleased with the transfer arrangements that Carlos made for her from Playa Palms. BTW, they do have a bar and snacks on the Ferry's between Cozumel and Playa. I also recommend printing off the Ferry Schedule before leaving so you can make proper arrangements for getting to the airport in plenty of time when heading home.

Upon arrival in Playa, take some time to walk 5th Avenue and check out the shops and restaurants (Tequila Barrel is a must!!). Pick up the items you'll need like sunscreen, razors, beer, wine (check your room, you probably have a wine opener in your room) and snacks. BINGO, you are set for a week!!!...unless you have to replenish your beer and wine supply... :-)

As you sit on the beach, savor every moment. Relax and enjoy!!!!

Talk about culture shock. The last time I was in Playa del Carmen, there were dirt roads, a handful of shops and restaurants on 5th Avenue, and we had to pay cash for everything.

Now 20 years later, we returned to see its mighty evolution into the #1 honeymoon destination in the world and the covergirl on every glossy travel magazine.

Now you can pamper yourself in 5-star All-Inclusive properties offering shiny little plastic wristbands. Or you can create a simpler, more authentic and far less expensive holiday, the way my husband and I did, experiencing the real Playa--for pesos!

Now when I "scale back" a holiday, I don't mean hostels, campgrounds and tacos. One of the best buys on the white sands of the Riviera Maya is the Playa Palms Beachfront Hotel. (Take a peek right now on their website webcam at www.playapalms.com)

We stayed in an ocean view studio just steps away from the famed whtie sand and impossibly blue water. An outdoor pool meanders through the middle of the property, much like a river. It's hard to believe we only paid $119/night during low season (Oct. 08). I almost hate passing along this recommendation as there are only 38 studios and suites available for smart, peso-wise travelers like me...

Our studio had a kitchenette, with refrigerator, microwave, coffeepot, toaster, cable TV and private balcony with a hammock for afternoon siestas or gazing at the stars.

If location is everything, then Playa Palms has it all. When hunger strikes, we are only two short blocks from the cobblestoned Fifth Avenue, the famous pedestrian heart of the city.

Low-tech, low-priced and laid-back is a great recipe for a stressbusting vacation. Playa del Carmen has all three if you know where to look.

We just got back from a 5 night stay at Playa Palms. We stayed in the one-bedroom suite #306 and it was great accommodations for me, my husband and two year old son. We traveled with another family with two-year old and they also stayed in a one-bedroom suite (#307) across the way. This was a great set up since we could put the kids to bed and then stay up and visit on the balconies in the evenings. It was great to have the kitchen too. We had an early breakfast each morning at the hotel when the kids woke up and then went out to brunch later when the restaurants opened.

The location was excellent - right on the beach, close to all the restaurants and shops. Easy walk/ or 30 peso taxi ride to Mega or Walmart for groceries (I think Mega was nicer!). You could hear the club noise at night in our rooms but was drowned out by the white noise of the air conditioner - if you are extra sensitive ear plugs would be a good idea.

The service was great. Victor at the front desk was super friendly and Carlos went above and beyond to arrange our tours, airport transfers and settle us into beach chairs each day. Also, I am 6-months pregnant and emailed the hotel ahead of time to request an extra foam pad on the bed for added comfort. It was all set-up when we arrived!

If (when) we return to Playa we'll definitely stay her again!!

Can't get enough of this place, my third visit in two years. This time we weathered Hurricane Ida, which was far enough off shore that we only got a lot of wind and rain, but it seems to have added more sand to the already beautiful beach. Staff has been scrambling to make sure all guests are safe and secure should the storm worsen. Playa is pretty quiet this season so it has been easy to get into any restaurant, and the locals really appreciate the business. Free WiFi in the rooms has made it easy to keep track of the storm's progress and intensity - and the staff has done their best to keep us updated. Kudos to them all!
