We loved the hotel and the staff were amazing. Carlos, Victor and Luis were more than helpful - went out of their way to accommodate our needs. The cleaning staff did an excellent job - we were very impressed. Located close to 5th Avenue, no need to take a taxi. Enjoyed the breakfast on the balcony every morning - a great way to start the day. There were no issues getting chairs on the beach and towels were supplied, only downside was the boats right in front of us - not that big of a deal - you could still walk out into the water. You could hear the music from the clubs when you were on the balcony but didn't find it that loud - once you were in your room you could't hear anything - slept really well. Hotel is in an excellent location - would definitely stay again. Also was glad to see the night security watching all the comings and goings - they were on top of things. A big thank you to the hotel staff for making our stay wonderful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the beach

My wife and I checked into Playa Palms after spending the previous week at an all-inclusive resort nearby. We wanted to try a smaller, less expensive option for vacationing in Mexico. I have to say that overall we enjoyed the experience.
The Playa Palms is a condo hotel sandwiched between a beach club and a much larger condo resort. It has a prime location on the beachfront. From it you have easy access to 5th Avenue and all its shops and resturants. From my walks along the beach I would say it is the best of the small hotels in the area.
We had a garden view room near the back of the hotel on the ground floor. The room was very nice and perfect for our needs. There are two large closets and a queen bed at one side of the room. The bed was very hard. There is a programable safe in one closet. At the other end is a futon, coffee table and chair. We had cable TV. There is a kitchenette area with sink, toaster, small fridge and microwave. The fridge is stocked with various items such as beer, soft drinks, chocolate bars and cigarettes. Use them and you pay for them. Bottled water is supplied free. We walked to Walmart and local convienence stores for our food. In the evening we sampled some of the many resturants on 5th. The bath is perfectly adequate with a vanity and shower. The wireless internet service was frustratingly slow. The best feature for us was a beautiful patio with hammock; surrounded by lush vegetation. There were a couple of days we didn't even hit the beach because it was so relaxing to chill out here! Speaking of the beach, it was very nice. It got a bit crowded at times at the front, but there was always room for everyone at the hotel. The trees on the beach provide plenty of shade for those who want it. On every day except one, there were enough umbrellas to go around. I wish that the beach chairs had cushions, though. The hotel supplies beach towels. The one drawback to the beach is that there are a lot of fishing boats along the shore in front of the hotel so you have to wade out between them to get into the water. They also create a lot of exhaust smells with their revving engines. There is beach food and drink service from the hotel next door. Gabriel will give you a menu and take your order.
The hotel pool is very small. it is mostly just good for a quick cool down after the heat of the beach. The sun only hits the water for a short time each day so the water is quite cold!
One complaint about this hotel is that it can be a little too noisy at night. Because it is built in such a narrow space all the rooms are very close. Sounds of conversation on balconies seem to be amplified and you can easily hear this right thru the slider door at night. You will also hear the thump thump of music from nearby night clubs.
You might find the complimentary breakfast to be a bit skimpy. You are given a form to check off as to what you want and at what time. There is one slice of cold toast and one croissant for each guest; also coffee, tea and orange juice. I ordered a fruit plate my first morning but I did not find it to be good value. For 20 pesos you can buy large servings of excellent fruit from street vendors at the public beach just a short walk toward the Cozumel ferry dock.
We had a pleasant week at Playa Palms. The staff were friendly and helpful. I can't say we will return as there are many other options to explore but I would not hesitate to recommend it as a place to stay.

Room Tip: Some of the stairs to upper levels could be tricky for people with disability.

Check in was very quick and easy. Two employees showed us to our room, explained the features of the room and removed the contents from the refrigerator since we had stopped at the Mega store for our own “supplies.”

We stayed in a first floor room that shared a patio and hammock with the room next to us for 4 nights. We were the closest room to the beach without being on the beach. We loved the view and easy access to the room, patio, and beach.

Our room was large with a walk in closet and huge safe, big enough for a good size laptop and more. The room, also, included a large shower, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, water dispenser, plates, silverware, glasses, wine opener, etc. My only suggestion would be to include a roll of paper toweling.

Complimentary breakfast including coffee, tea, orange juice, bread, and croissants were delivered to your room every morning. You can, also, add fruit, cottage cheese, etc. for an additional fee or order a full breakfast from next door.

There is complimentary parking near the lobby.

The beach was nice and never too crowded. Beach chair and umbrellas were complimentary.

You can order food and drinks from next door. We had the guacamole and it was just OK.

The location of this hotel is perfect . . . steps from night clubs, bars, restaurants, shopping, diving, sport fishing, massages on the beach, etc.

Security was always around making sure everything was ok; ensuring you made it to your room at night; and that no one was on the premises that shouldn’t be.

The negatives:

We were unable to access the wireless internet for the first 2 days. Employees tried to help us and said they would have someone out to look into it. We were able to,, successfully access the internet the last two days of our trip.

There was, periodically, the smell of sewage in our room. . . noticeably around 3 a.m. each morning and, inconsistently, throughout the day.

We, thoroughly, enjoyed our 4 nights here in January and hope to return next January.

Location is great. Beautiful views. My only complaint would be the noise level. There was a group above us that felt the need to hang out on their patios drinking and conversing loudly at midnight and again at 2am. This same group would hog all of the prime chairs with beach towels but not make an appearance until noon or later. I guess as long as hotels allow this behavior it will continue.

This was our first time at Playa Palms and we'll be back next year. This beach-front hotel is in a great location, the facilities look new, and the service was very good. Our third floor room (and perhaps all rooms) have a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hot plate and pans, and serving ware, discreetly stored near the closet. Incredibly, each room is also equipped with a water color and there is also one by the beach! We stocked up on fresh fruit and other items to supplement the complementary continental breakfast of coffee/tea/juice, toast and croissants. Additional breakfast items are available for you to order. This is delivered to your room at the time you request and served on the balcony. The balcony is generously sized and furnished and most have a sea view. The bed and bed linens are high quality. The staff is friendly and competent, rooms and general areas clean and well maintained. We realized we were in an area close to night clubs, however, the triple glazed sliders kept the noise at bay and we slept soundly each night. The Wi Fi worked on the balcony not in the room. Flat screen TV and great water pressure in the shower!
We were very comfortable here and look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second and third floor have more privacy; on the first floor, the 'balcony area'...

Dear Denise,

Thanks for your positive review of our hotel. I am very glad to hear you enjoyed so much your stay with us.

All rooms have equipped kitchenettes like what you had. We have noticed many of our guests appreciate to be able to make some lighter meals during their stay. its nice to go out to eat, but sometimes also a great feeling to eat cozily at home, and enjoy the sea view from the terrace.

I am glad you noticed that the sound insulation of the room worked well and that despite bars in the neighbourhood, your room was quite.

Thanks for staying with us, and we look forward to see you next year.

Kind regards,

helge Sturesson

We loved our stay to Playa Palms! Friendly staff and very clean rooms with great views from the balcony. We were upgraded half way through our stay so they could replace the sliding glass door in our room... What a pleasant surprise! Our second room was oceanfront with a large balcony. It can be a little loud as it is close to the night clubs but we didn't have trouble sleeping. Can't wait for our next stay at Playa Palms!!

Great location on the Caribbean Ocean and the middle of town. Carlos, Victor, Luis are always there just like last year to exceed your every needs. Small boutique hotel right on the beach. You can walk to shopping, restaurants and night clubs. Not all inclusive but they bring commentary croissant and coffee and juice to your oversized balcony most with a partial view of the ocean. Playa del Carmen has over 600 restaurants in town so why be tied down to an all inclusive hotel? The only minor downside was the refrigerator was working fine but the door needed to be replaced or refinished....it was peeling paint...it just looked bad...reported this....they said thank you for bringing it to their attention and appreciated the feedback.
