I booked this hotel after seeing the pictures and reading reviews on tripadvisors. I wanted a nice, quiet beach front experience for my first vacation to Playa del Carmen.
The hotel was a perfect location, and good value for the price, located right in the middle of the beach in Playa del Carmen. It is also within 2 blocks of the famed 5th Ave. where there are many restaurants, bars and shops.
We booked an ocean front studio with unobstructed views of the ocean, right on the beach. There is a very large patio with table and chairs, and two lounge chairs as well as a hammock.
The room is very large with a kitchenette as well as loft with bed that is accessed via a staircase in the room. There is a refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker in the room. A few kitchen utensils, dishes and flatware is included. There is also a hotplate.
Our room was located on the 3rd level. There are no elevators, so we climbed a narrow spiral staircase to get there. There are also rooms located on ground level with ocean views if climbing stairs are a problem.
The refrigerator is stocked with beer, wine and sodas which the hotels sells for a price. The coffeemaker comes with 2-3 packs of coffee and creamer as well as sugar. I found out at checkout that they charge 12 pesos for day for the coffee. I was...I booked this hotel after seeing the pictures and reading reviews on tripadvisors. Within a few short steps from our room, there were many beach lounge chairs and umbrellas. There were also two hammocks.
The beach area was quiet and a very good place to relax during the day. A few palm trees spotted the landscape, providing an escape from the sun, if needed. There is also a massage area, separate from the hotel, where you can get a massage for $50 for 2 or $30 for one person. I bargained and got an hour massage for $25 for one person.
On the downside, Playa Palms Beach Hotel is located near two beach front clubs. The noise from the clubs playing techno music into the wee hours of the morning was quite disconcerting. I complained to the manager and he said that they were only supposed to play on the weekends, but we were there Monday - Friday, and they played every night. If you are a light sleeper like I am, you might want to bring ear plugs.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Playa Palms. It had everything we wanted for a nice beach vacation.More
