“The "bloom" is off the Haciendas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2014

We are owners of this timeshare and have used it from the very opening. While the vegetation has matured over the years the overall expectation has begun to wane. The Royal Mayan was able to look "new" even after it's run of 30 yrs. So too the other Royals; Caribbean, Islander and Sands. We waited the 1st two years for the Haciendas to "catch up" but alas, I don't believe it will ever equal the excellence of the others. The good parts are very good: the units, the layout, the beach area and service. The downside is that it's getting too "young" for this old guy. Music is electronically contrived and the "teams" want everyone to get up and scream...not my style. But morning, evening and many parts during the day are close to excellent for sun-lovers, readers and ear-phone users. We prepare most of our meals inside...I don't find the restaurants that good after the initial meals...and they don't seem to be worth the cost...the convenience perhaps; but it's a serious decision we make. The classy Los Morales has improved and is not cheap, but it is good. The Market suffices for our needs and we don't even visit WalMart anymore. We will come back, but the old homestead is getting dowdy. Some of us can't wait until the very high end Royal Residences is completed...then we may be able to regain the focus of management once again on the Hacienda's.

Room Tip: We face the South during the winter months and enjoy cool mornings and extend the sun-filled days. W...

As always, The Royal Haciendas had a welcoming taco party for owners on Monday. It started raining, and I departed from the party after a few minutes, due to the fact that the activities center has a sun-0shade, but no roof. The Resort Management should fund a retractable roof, which could be closed for rain, and open for sunny days. This could be financed from our existing annual maintenance fees.
The Activity Director is useless. The Activity Director has an established schedule of events throughout the week. There is no alternative plan for days when it rains or if there are high winds. Owners and guests are present at the resort for a vacation, and each day should be filled with possible activities. The Activities Director needs to ensure there are activities of interest to each owner/guest each day.
The Poolside restaurants continue to be a disappointment. It makes no sense to have two restaurants with identical menus, located approximately 600 feet apart. It would be nice if one poolside restaurant specialized in BBQ and the other in seafood, sandwiches, and salads. The Peach Daiquiris were great, but the bartender needs to learn to make many more drinks. The bar tender should have a drink recipe book at his/her side, always providing the customer with the drink of choice.
When I attended the sales presentation and purchased in December 2009, I was specifically told the Resort would always provide transportation to and from 5th Avenue. Now the resort has imposed a $35 Pesos per ride into town! The Resort should honor their original promise to owners. The Royal Haciendas is a bit isolated from the Town of Playa del Carmen, and a free shuttle create a better connection between the Owners and the Town.
The Resort needs to provide more evening entertainment options.
The Resort needs to provide more electrical plugs inside the unit and outside on the patio.

Always enjoy our stay !
Staff is terrific, very attentive & friendly.
Enjoyed golf at the adjacent Grand Coral course BUT disappointed to find out they will not let you use the Royal Haciendas loaner clubs as they had in the past. They now insist that you rent theirs.

Room Tip: 4th floor near lobby for ease of access & quiet

Lovely property, nice location, beautiful pools, but the nice looking Jacuzzi's were a huge disappointment. They were not kept hot enough to be enjoyable. Made the suggestion to management, but, nothing. We heard from some owners, they were having some financial issues, but don't know if that is true(people not paying maintenance fees). Also, they separated the four tubs into two adult only and two adult and kid pools(GREAT IDEA). However, the adult tubs always had kids in them and the security did nothing. Annoying to have the tub water slashed into your Mai Tai, by some little kid. Speaking of Mai Tai's, the bar service to the jacuzzi's was almost non-existent. If we wanted a drink, had to go to the pool bar and get it. The rooms were very nice and clean, and for the most part, the property was well maintained. The service in the La Palapa restaurant was quite slow. Over-all, we had a good time, but the experience was a bit disappointing.

My daughter and I chose The Royal Haciendas for a 5 night mother-daughter getaway after tons of research, reviews and price watching. We were not disappointed.
We found this resort met our expectations. We wanted a good beach, clean accommodations, and a place to relax. We got all this and more. The Haciendas is really lovely and the friendly and helpful staff made our stay even better.
It is essential, however, for one to know in advance that this property is not a party place (that may be an understatement!). The Luna Grill pool bar is great for lunch or drinks during the day, and we made good use of the beach service to have drinks and lunch brought to our beach chairs (how indulgent!!) . Only one day was the service not up to par (a Sunday, maybe regulars have the day off?). However, we were surprised to find no outdoor bar service at night, nothing at all. The inside Rotunda bar is pleasant, but we would have enjoyed sitting outside in such lovely surroundings in the evening and having a drink.
We would not have traded the peace and quiet, though, so we felt the lack of wild pool bar night life which sometimes accompanies AI properties was a good thing. This place was just prefect for relaxing, either day or evening. There were a couple of evening shows and markets, but nothing much happening at night and we were ok with that. We did take the shuttle in to PDC one evening and enjoyed a meal, a little shopping and people watching, but w ere happy to get back to our oasis.
The food was for the most part good to very good. The Mexican buffet was very flavourful, and breakfasts , especially the fresh fruit and omelette station, was great. We ordered several times from the menu at Palapa Del Sol and found it very good. Didn't try the high end restaurant.
We walked the beach in both directions, and when we saw neighbouring resorts, with beach chairs crammed so close together people could hardly move, we were very grateful that we had chosen the the RH, where we never had trouble finding beachfront palapas and comfy chairs.
I would definitely recommend the Royal Haciendas for people who want a vacation that is restful, with spacious comfortable surroundings, beautiful beach and friendly staff.

Just returned from a week's stay. This resort is spotlessly clean, extremely well-maintained, and well-staffed. I preferred to order off the menu rather than eat at the buffet and found the meals to be hot and excellent. If you are going to Les Murales, book in advance. This restaurant is spectacular! The food is fantastic and the staff well-trained. Service at the bar by the pool was slow, but that's because in addition to the orders for people sitting at the tables they are running food to the beach and pool area. Room service was also good. The maid service was not at the same time every day.

We agreed to go to an RCI sales presentation although we already own at the resort. I would try to avoid doing that in future. They ask for an hour of your time and manage to stretch it out to be much longer. The sales people have a formula they must follow and you cannot say no to a sales agent and leave without seeing a manager as well.

I am finally writing a review of this resort that is long over due, I have traveled all over Mexico and have stayed at over 11 resorts. This is one of the best. Expect to relax, this is not a Cancun resort! It is very quiet even during peak season. All of the staff from the operator when you dial zero, to the bartenders at the swim-up-bars are fantastic. The cleaning ladies are sweethearts and very trustworthy. The rooms are clean and have a great style to them.

The food at Los Murales and the Palapa is fabulous. Much better than the pool bar food, but even that isn't bad at all. The buffets are a bit expensive but gigantic and always fresh and pretty good. They also just added a sushi bar to the Rotonda Bar which is nice, but pricy.

The only issue I have with this resort is the beach is very rocky. Its nothing like the beautiful blue Cancun water. (However, if you walk down the beach to the left of the resort you will find a gorgeous area of sandy deep blue water.)

The Royal Haciendas is a great family and couples resort. Its so big a couple looking for a romantic getaway wont even mind the kids. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: The resort has shuttles that take you into downtown playa for $3 during the day and free in the even...
