“All-inclusive guests are second rate at this beautiful, clean resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is a beautiful, clean resort. The food was decent in the accessible restaurant and very good in the restaurant that would allow "owners" first stab at reservations (required) each night. Because of this we were edged out a few nights. We had a fun time here because it is a beautiful location and we were with our family, but the the entire week we were constantly signing receipt after receipt and tips were expected for every little thing. I am normally a very generous tipper but felt that since we had paid so much for the all-inclusive that a tip should only be if we were extemely satisfied or wanted special attention (ie: the beach service, bar service etc). Many times the service was outstanding and a tip was totally necessary. But after the week...we had acumulated a bill of about $250+ USD just by tipping, they need to work out the "bugs" for all-inclusives.

Room Tip: The E building is the one we stayed and it is literally ON the beach...perfect!!! (see photos)

After staying at the Royal Caribean, Islander and Sands we like the new evolution in the next expansion. Good wifi, great food, and not over run with guests even at max capacity.

Diving right off the beach was awesome with dive shop on property.

Only cons were that the pool staff was overwhelmed with some new all inclusive option that the royals is passing off. We have been in the Royal system since '94 and we didn't like it or how it effects the experience.

As Royal Resort member we again enjoyed the friendly staff. Went to wedding at Bacelo beach resort and hated the all inclusive! We also treat Haciendas like an all inclusive (we eat and order drinks when we feel like it and pay our bill at end of the week, much less than what you pay for all inclusive) but get much friendlier service and better food there! Congratulations to Royal Haciendas. You didn't disappoint again.

We spent Easter week at The Royal Haciendas. This is our home resort in Mexico, and has been since it was built. It is every bit as nice, and as regards the grown in landscaping and completion of the Nick Price golf course, even nicer than the first year. From the moment you step off of the airport shuttle to the time you leave, you are tended to constantly. Our personal concierge, Gina was as attentive as we needed her to be, and very efficient. We didn't need many things from her but when I needed a tee time or a reservation made, it was done with one phone call as we sipped drinks by the pool. The grounds are meticulously kept as are the beaches. One only has to walk down the beach to different properties to appreciate how well kept they are.
We vacationed this year with my sister and her husband, who have a time share in Cabo San Lucas, where we have stayed at with them. They were very impressed with the resort. They especially liked the warm waters of the Caribbean, instead of the rather chilly Pacific. They did miss seeing the wales migrate, but the snorkeling was better. They enjoyed a day trip to Akumal, and Tulum that we arranged through Thomas More travel, which is located in the lobby of the resort. We enjoyed a private bus and driver that took us anywhere we wanted for the day. It was much better than being on a fixed schedule tour with 80 other folks.
This resort suits our needs perfectly. We like the open space of the resort, and the two pools on either side of the two phases. There is some activities for small children, but I think teenagers will not find much to do. But they can sign up for scuba classes, or make use of the free kayak. The tennis courts are very nice and they have free rackets available. The resort was 90% occupied but never felt crowded. We were able to get pool side loungers or a beach side palapa with no problem at all.
The ferry to Cozumel is a short cab drive from the resort, and we spent a day there snorkeling when the wind was whipped up on our beach, the lee side of Cozumel is quite calm, and good dive and snorkel sites abound.
We continue to promote this resort as a destination to all of our friends, and each year that we bring new people with us they go home converts.

Room Tip: our unit is in the c section on the third floor, furthest from the beach, but still only a 5 minute...

Hi All

This was my 2nd trip to the Royal Haciendas (family trip)... I felt the resort itself was a 5 * resort... very nice with the upgraded room amenities including a hot tub on the deck. The kitchen was spacious including the marble counter tops it made the room very appealing. The beach was nice... was rocky in some places, but the surf was much more calm and swimmable than what you find in Cancun. The food was good ... with only a single restaurant available for children the location and some of the food became a bit redundant after a few days. They do change their buffet which is nice... but a lot of similarities from day to day. As far as getting away from the resort there is a scheduled 5:30 & 6:30 shuttle that will bring you to 5th avenue (play del carmen downtown area) for no charge... but you need an advance reservation to make sure you have a spot on one of the shuttles. To get home you will need to get a taxi and that will run you about 140 pesos (probably a 5-10 min ride). I think this is really the only downfall of the resort that exploring anything near the resort is nearly non existent and will require a cab ride. Some people may do the all-inclusive option and don't need to explore for different dining options or shopping options this would be fine for those people.

Also they do have wi-fi available at the resort but it is extremely slow and had various connectivity issues while we were there. The wi-fi was very frustrating to use.

I do like the Royal Haciendas... and would go back if I have the chance... I do prefer the Royal Sands and the location they offer. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance including the KuKuclan mall. I might be a little biased since I'm an owner at the Royal Sands.

Room Tip: There is a long walk from the check-in area to the beach and the pool. If you plan on spending much...

Dear Royal Hacienda Managers: Lodging, food, safety, amenities and location are all a 10! Please consider adjusting customer service and "all inclusive" policies for an A+++experience (see below).

1. Upon check-in, offer tired travelers a welcome beverage and hot towel. (good first impression and gives a little dose of what's to come)

2. Upgrade rooms with keyless access.

3. Print room #s on wrist bands.

4. No RECEIPTS for all-inclusive guests.

Carrying/showing card keys every time you want something AND collecting printed receipts would be eliminated. Gratuities for all-inclusive guests are INCLUDED and when given a receipt with an empty TIP line, despite having '0' for the price, my husband and I constantly had this conversation, "Should we tip? We already paid for it... But we got good service... How much to tip...?" IF those slips are absolutely necessary then why not simply state under the tip line, "Tips have been pre-paid for all-inclusive guests." Of course, we were happy to tip for the AMAZING services in Los Morales (had so many wonderful meals!), spa and dive services. We are not cheap people, but every time we did not tip, we FELT cheap.

All-inclusives = no worries but we DID worry about card keys/receipts/tips. We want to return and enjoy our vacation just like our 10-yr-old son did --carefree, with every need catered to and provided for 100%.

P.S. --loved your hotel guests! Met so many wonderful families! ;)

Room Tip: We stayed in the "C" wing (C119A) - which was the first row near the entrance. Even thoug...

We just returned from spending Easter week at Royal Haciendas. My overall assessment is that this was a very beautiful resort, a great place for families with younger children, and really perfect for just relaxing. On the other hand, it was a little boring for our 2 teenagers, with not much for them to do and the place is absolutely dead quiet after about 7pm. The rooms were great - with a kitchenette (which we did not use since we had the all-inclusive package), a kind master bedroom + 2 murphy beds that suited our needs perfectly, a gorgeous balcony with ocean breazes 24/7, nice bathroom - absolutely no complaints. The amenities were nice: we played tennis several times (no extra fee for the courts + can just check-out rackets and balls); the pools were warm and not crowded, I joined the pilates class one morning and the yoga class another (also included), my daughter and I checked out the spa for facials which were very nice. Again, the only complaint here was that while there were activities geared toward younger kids, my 15 & 17-year olds didn't find much to do (the resort organizes a beach volleyball game nightly, but that's not my kids' thing, X-box matches were populated by 12-13 year olds, etc.). The beach is excellent and we never had trouble finding lounge chairs under the resort's grass umbrellas, but the surf was wavy this week so we couldn't really snorkle to see the fish in the reef rocks just in front of our beach. The food was very good: lot's to choose from (and even more if you wish to pay the extra surcharges for some the items), all you can eat and drink, room service included (which we used several times for early breakfasts before leaving for excursions), and the 2 restaurants were plenty for us - never had to wait to be seated. I echo other reviewers in commenting that the whole room card/check process was quite annoying: even with the all-inclusive you must wait for your check, the waiter takes your room card, and comes back later for you to sign it - a process which sometimes took 30+ minutes. If you plan for that, it's easier to manage (honestly - we took books/IPAD's to dinner to make the waiting less frustrating). Net, if rest & relaxation in a gorgeous setting is what you're looking for, I would highly recommend Royal Haciendas.
