Visited the last week of February. Weather was great, even though it rained one or two days. Really nice grounds. Excellent food and I'm picky. Check out my food blog if you don't believe me. www.jitterycook.com
Nice beach!!! Great swimming in the ocean. Tons of beach and pool chairs. Enormous pools. Decent rooms. Mattresses were sub par but slept well each night, so I guess they were passable. Only complaint was the yoga exercise room was a below ground squishy kindergarten room. Very, very unzenish. Outdoor classes would have been better. Service was perfect! Everyone working there was kind, helpful, friendly, courteous and helped to make you feel comfortable. Excellent staff. We had the all inclusive plan. We try to eat light and maybe had 1 or 2 drinks all week and we still felt like we got our money's worth. Very quiet resort which was much appreciated. Never used the spa. Felt relaxed enough without it.
Fun to stroll through Playa Del Carmen one night. Have already visited all the nearby tourist attractions on previous trips so skipped them this time, but remember loving them first time through.

Room Tip: Looked like all rooms were good except those overlooking the parking lot and there were a zillion ro...

I, and other members of my family, have stayed at the resort at least 4 times in the past few years. We always enjoyed our stay very much. I do not take issue with the accommodations, the pool, the beach, or the staff. What I take issue with is the introduction of the MANDATORY all-inclusive plan. A vacation that used to be relatively affordable, through an exchange either through RCI or II, no longer is. I wanted to book our family vacation for this coming May, only to find out that as of last October, the resort has made this plan mandatory for $105 per person, per day. What am I renting a unit with a full kitchen for, then, when I am left with no choice for what and when I want to eat? Every time I went, we had some meals at the cabana or at the restaurants, but to force a familyof 3 to fork out $300 a day for food, when we know how limited the choice is compared to other all-inclusives, and whether we need it or not, is OUTRAGEOUS! Unfortunately, I think the resort is doing itself more damage than it's worth, as people like myself will regretfully have to look at other options. And there are other options, nice as the Haciendas is. Too bad, really. I suggest that RH should get out of the exchange network altogether if they want to become an all-inclusive.

Took my husband to Royal Haciendas for his 50th birthday in November. We are owners and this was our first trip there. We are also owners at the Royal Sands and have come to love the great service and staff. We were appalled at how a few young families acted throughout the week. Allowing children to run on the wall along tables while guests were dining, splashing and jumping off stools at pool bar, dragging lounge chairs in the middle of the pool to use as a trampoline, screaming and taking over the hot tub as their personal swimming pool complete with lots of toys. All the while, the young parents continued to drink away to get their money's worth from the all inclusive. They were rude to the staff, didn't care about throwing things about the beautiful grounds and wasted a lot of food. Such a beautiful resort should not be all inclusive. Not sure why this decision was made as the property is sold out? I hope the board reconsiders this decision before the property deteriorates. Much less, the damage being done by those that don't treat it as their home is repaired with the maintenance fees paid by us, the owners.

I love Mexico for our great resorts, the friendly staff and beautiful country. I hope to continue visiting for a long time to come. I will be staying at the Sands in early May and hope the all inclusive visitors treat the property better than we witnessed at the Haciendas in November.

We have been coming to the Royal Haciendas for 6 years now as owners. The cleanliness and friendliness of this hotel can not be compared to anywhere else. The staff are such hard workers and will do anything to make your stay a happy one from the moment you arrive. The rooms and common areas are so clean here. They even dust the balconies of your room. Outstanding cleanliness here. The shrimp tacos at the pool bar are the best anywhere! This year we also discovered that the chicken quesadillas were just as great. There are always beach chairs available so you don't have to wake at 6 am to reserve one. As far as the new all inclusive program we as owners eat lunch at the hotel or in our room and half of our vacation we go into Playa del Carmen and discover a new restaurant each time we go. There are so many fantastic restaurants to choose from. For the all inclusive program you only have three restaurants at the hotel and they are all good. If you want to get crazy and party this is not the place for you. It is a beautiful 5 star hotel with pristine grounds if you want a nice relaxing vacation. We enjoy the relaxation of the day and then either eat at the hotel a couple of nights or we go into Playa del Carmen for some of our culinary adventures. The Mexican people in the Mayan Riviera love tourists. We always feel safe at this resort and in Playa.

We own multiple weeks at the Hacienda's and have been coming down with friends every year since it opened; we were even there before they completely finished the second side or before the Grand Coral golf club was anything other than jungle. So we've seen the area go through many changes. The Hacienda's are well kept although the beds / couches are starting to show the wear and tear. The property just recently decided to go all-inclusive - mandatory for renters and optional for owners and their guests. I've been to other all-inclusive properties in Playa and this property is NOT set up to be an all-inclusive. It has one main restaurant which serves a buffet at breakfast (no changes each day) and a buffet at lunch and dinner (minimal changes although they have different themes). Pool restaurants serve usual sandwiches . tacos / salads. For the all-inclusive, you have limited options unless you want to incur a "surcharge" for premium food items. Their is one very small upscale restaurant but most items incur the surcharge. The bar items also incur a surcharge for all-inclusive for any liquor other than generic label or draft beer. Can / bottle beer are a surcharge. Room keys must be used for each order also and you then have to sign a check (with an option to tip). Service is very, very slow. Not because the staff isn't working but because they're are so few of them and they are running all over the place - pool bar, pool restaurant, around the pool, onto the beach....you'll see staff carrying 12-14 drinks at one time scurrying around but it takes forever. Then the one bartender has to make all those drinks, pour the draft beers, run the card, get signatures......the place just is not set up to be an all-inclusive. Then when you try to throw in 2x1 happy-hour (at an all-inclusive?)......the poor staff works very hard but can't seem to get to everyone. Before the all inclusive, you could be in the pool and swim up to the bar, order drinks and get back to you friends in less than three minutes. Now, it's 20-30 minutes. On the plus side, the beach are seems to have more chairs and umbrellas and is very clean. Walking on the beach in either direction is very safe and you can actually walk into Playa (about 45 minutes). Shuttles run into / back from Playa every day and can booked the day before. Taxi ride is about 140 pesos for 4 or less; 280 pesos for 5-8. It's a great place to stay if you don't wanto, or have to do all-inclusive and like to go into town to shop, eat, people watch.....but if you have to do all-inclusive, you may want to look into places that have more restaurants and a much better set up.

Room Tip: All rooms have a ocean view. Ocean front is okay but you'll have constant wind which makes sitti...
