“Great vacation for everyone!”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

First off, I had last traveled to this place in May 2011, not 2012. I had to choose one of the dates on the review box before submitting this. I have just now decided to write a review because I love this place and didn't realize how important reviews were when you're searching for vacations, honeymoons etc. In my case, a honeymoon search has led me to type this review because Royal Haciendas deserves it!!! I have been to this place with my fiance and his family every May for four years in a row. I love this place. The employees are SO NICE and always say "hola" when you cross paths. They work so hard to keep the grounds in perfect condition.
They always have some type of activity for everyone. My favorite is the ceramic painting. It's nice to get out of the hot sun every once in a while to get out some creative energy and have something to take home. If you're not a great painter, no big deal. They usually paint accented designs on it to make it look official ;) So then you look like you know what you're doing! hehe. They also have yoga in the morning and water aerobics.
I love the swim up bar and their food. The best thing is the shrimp wrap. It's to die for. They have a happy hour every day. So many drinks to choose from and all are soooo yummy. Even though there's a swim up bar, families and their children can still hang out in the pool without feeling like they're on a college campus. The pool is huge and can accommodate A LOT, I mean A LOT of people. There are 2 pools. A third one is being built I think... The pool area closes up shop a little early, but it's good for the people who want to have a beautiful quiet night and perhaps take a romantic stroll on the property or on the beach. There is a bar in the Rotunda to get some drinks if you're still up for the social mood. Not to mention, they do have two restaurants on the property. They are both great. La Palapa has a different themed buffet for every night. I love them all. No complaints!!!
The rooms are SO CLEAN and spacious. There are some units with full kitchens. You really feel like you're hanging out in your home away from home. It's so hard to leave when your vacation is finished. Seriously. I love it here. They even have a little store to buy food to cook in your kitchen, sunblock, toiletries, etc.
The resort is only about 10-15 minutes away from the downtown area. You can usually find a cab to take you back to the resort for $10 ($100 pesos). There are nightclubs, shopping, bars and restaurants. So many neat things. You can even take a ferry to Cozumel for a day trip. I love going to the Money Bar to lay out while everyone else snorkels. It's laid back and quiet ;)
All around, going to Playa Del Carmen is great. The resort is clean, friendly and a home away from home. I love this place and I'm sure you will too. You won't regret staying here.

The family was very happy to be here and had many activities to choose from. The staff was very friendly and the areas were clean. We felt very safe during our visit.

Room Tip: Large and clean.

We are currently on vacation here at RH. This is our second time back here. The place is very clean, the dive shop excellent, food and drinks good, and the staff are very friendly. Sadly, we've learned that starting next month, they will force timeshare exchangers such as us into buying an ALL INCLUSIVE meal plan. It looks like this will be our last time here.

While we have had lunch a couple of times by the pool and usually go to dinner a night or two, one of the reasons we bought a timeshare (Marriott in Florida) is to have a kitchen, thereby not having to eat out all the time. We enjoyed the "at home" experience of vacationing from having a kitchen with all your food right there. No getting dressed in the morning to go wait for a table just to have breakfast, cooking while relaxing with family etc... Furthermore, we now have a small child who, though while mostly good at while eating out, can throw a fit from time to time.

We like our timeshare over all inclusive hotels since we can eat the same way we do at home. While we might have a full course dinner at a restruaunt one or two nights, eating that much every day wears on you. While we do drink, my wife and I are not huge drinkers. We don't spend the whole day getting drunk (like some we've seen at all inclusive resorts).

When we have stayed at all inclusive resorts, we typically pay much more than what the room ,groceries, and a night or two out are worth. For example, Azul Fives (another place we considered exchanging into) wanted $125/day/person (for their all inclusive plan).... even for our child. That would be an additional +$2600 over the 7 days we are here. There is NO way that we would spend that much on food and drink normally. Heck, if I'm paying that much for the room, why would I even exchange my timeshare ? That would be around the total cost of the entire trip at a competing all inclusive hotel.

So if all inclusive is really mandatory at a price even close to what Azul wants, we'll be finding other resorts to travel to.

Dear Guest:

Thank you for taking a moment of your valuable time to write your review. Your comments are very important and help us serve you better.

I'm happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for the kind words about our dive shop, food and drinks & staff!

I understand your concerns about our REFINE All Inclusive Packages as I am well aware of the bad reputation that AI has in general; however, I can assure you that we will put the same Royal quality that we have built over the years in our AI programs. Since you already know and enjoy staying with us, I hope you give us a chance to show you what we have carefully prepared.

Until next time, take care and receive our warmest regards from Playa del Carmen.

Yours truly,

Camilo Olea

We have just returned from a 10 day vacation and stay at the Royal Haciendas in Play Del Carmen. The resort is kept in spotless condition and the grounds ,pools and beaches were wonderful. It's location is close to Playa Del Carmen, and the resort provides a free shuttle into town if booked in advance. We enjoyed long walks along the beach each morning, a great way to awaken, with the soft sand and warm water.
The staff ,as in other Royal Resorts we have stayed in ,were excellent. Always a friendly greeting or "Hola", and they all seem eager to make your vacation a pleasant one.
The restaurant featured buffet nights during the week, from Caribbean theme to Italian night, to Prime rib night. Price wise we found it comparable to the restaurants in town.
The only negative we had during our stay was when we had to move to a different room on the Saturday. We were expecting an easy move to a different room, but instead the room we moved into hadn't been cleaned for us, so to enter and see a mess of dirty dishes, food and mess strewn about did not please us very much. I told the stafff that if people are forced to vacate at 1100am because of a room change, they should at least move us into a new room that has been cleaned and prepared for us. Thefront desk staff promptly arranged for the maid to come clean the mess, we vacated to the beach for a couple hours, leaving our suitcases in a corner away from the mess the previous users had left ,eventually we cooled down and the room was cleaned spotlessly upon our return to it.
All in all ,we loved the Royal Haciendas and would have no hesitation in returning there for another vacation. It is clean ,comfortable and staff are awesome.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have balconies overlooking the ocean. We enjoyed the 3rd floor and the ceiling abov...

First off, you can't get any better service than the Royal Resorts. The people who work for this company are fun, friendly, and dedicated to making your vacation the best. From the maids, to groundskeepers, to bartenders, to personal concierges, they make coming here like coming back home. The property itself is incredibly beautiful. It is a little remote and needs to work on the social offerings for members, but you bring your own party it's an ideal location!

We come here every year and are never disappointed. This was not our regular week but we LOVE it whenever we come down. Normally we come the first week of June. The resort is absolutely beautiful, exceptionally clean, all the staff is helpful and friendly, and it is very safe. Beds are very comfortable as well. When people hear we travel to Mexico each year, the question of safety always comes up. Feeling safe is very important to my entire family and we definitely feel safe here. There is plenty of room to relax by the pools or the beaches. There are lots of day trips that can be arranged and activities are available at the resort. We look forward to our stay each year. You will love it too!
