Good point : no restaurants limit, great variety of food, awesome service, the two pools are clean and one is enormous.

Bad impressions : the beach is not really clan and the water is kind of Brown. It's really Noisy when you are in your room (neighbour and cleaning staff). no activities planed when it's raining. the beach is really far (10 min) from building 8,7 and 6.

Going to slam a few comments right off the jump here.... first off...if you had a bad flight...take it up with your carrier or travel agent it's not the resorts fault....if you find there is a language barrier maybe you might want to learn some Spanish before you go there or travel to an English speaking country or a country that is in your native tongue!!! And not close enough to the beach and you have to walk 5 minutes or more...go to a smaller resort....and if the music is too loud well too bad no one is holding you down ...you can always opt out of the entertainment!!!

One other thing to keep in mind...the "Star " ratings...once you leave the US or Canada you can throw that out the window...it's a totally different animal!!!

This was the second time we've been to this resort...although it is showing signs of age it still has some pop to it...entertainment pool side is just as good as the next place...that part is all about getting involved...the food at the buffet was good with lots of choice... we went to 4 A la cartes ...Mexican..Oriental ....French and Italian...all of which the service and the food was excellent...we found the grounds were well maintained...

Only down side was the beach...we found out that the winter storms had really taken their toll on the beach...and a couple of eye sores at each end of the Blue Bay property...

For the price Bluebay Grand Esmeralda still holds it's own in vacation value...and yes I would recommend this resort.

On a closing note...for those travelers out there that figure leaving their beer bottles or empty glass out on the resort property is fine...or even worse putting your childs diaper in a hallway as not to stink up the room...get a grip...you do this at home???

Our first all-inclusive vacation to Mexico was a blast from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. We stayed at this resort in Feb 2013, Kind of a later review but here it is…. The blue bay Grand is relatively new, and was generally in excellent condition w/ detailed to cleanliness, I saw workers around the clock working to keep the resort clean and spotless. The grounds were beautiful, very large resort yet well-maintained, as were the various buildings and facilities within the resort itself. Overall, it must be said that we really enjoyed our first all-inclusive experience stay with a positive overall rating.

Resort location -- The resort is located 40 Min south of Cancun airport along the strip of a lot of other resorts and is only a 10 min cab ride south to centre of Playa del Carmen which is filled with various stores, restaurants, bars, Clubs and a lot of other neat stuff to see and do. A lot of people told me that it was not safe to me in town, but I felt totally safe and welcomed by all the local Mexicans in the area.

Check-In -- Check in at this hotel was excellent, within minutes we were assigned our room which was in building named COBA, the closest to the swimming pool and the beach since we had booked an ocean view room and were escorted by Carlos I believe that was his name to our room via one of their golf carts, it took us more like 5 min to get to our room which explains how big this resort was. Once we entered our suite it was nicely decorated with animal towels on the bed and the A/C was cranked up which was a plus from the heat & humid weather outside the rooms.

Staff -- We found the staff at BBGE be excellent, if not always efficient. I hate to say it, but you are going to Mexico, and things just seem to take a bit longer. But the universally friendly disposition of all the servers and other employees more than made up for this. Especially commendable were the beach attendants who constantly came back around for rounds of drinks for us and the chamber maids who did a great job with room service and turn down. The weather was sunny pretty much all week besides one day when it rained but it was clear before you know it. The entertainment staff was incredible.

Food -- The buffet at BBGE is really excellent. It is hard to keep a buffet interesting for 21 straight meals, but the cooks did a great job of mixing it up. Especially notable was the variety of dishes, which seemed to change every day especially for breakfast since at night time we would make reservation to eat at one of the restaurants at the resort.

Beach - the beach at BBGE was a bit disappointing to us. For starters, it is long yet narrow. There is really just room for a few beach chairs and a volleyball court before the sand slopes off to the waves. There is not much surf here but the water was really murky, also worth noting was the presence of the seaweed.

Rooms -- Rooms were comfortable and well appointed. Each room has a balcony and we had booked for a Jacuzzi which was on the balcony compared to other rooms which didn’t request for a Jacuzzi but pretty much all rooms had a balcony. Our ocean view room wasn’t really an ocean view since we had a lot of trees in the way, so couldn’t see much of the ocean until you walk out to it.

If you get a chance, make sure try out some of the excursion, we did an excursion to TULUM and Chechen Itza worth the money spent and make sure u spend a day in Playa Del Carmen, it is worth the walk around town and you can find some neat gifts/souvenirs to bring back home
All in all, we rate BBGE 4 out of 5, a very respectable score. I would rate it 5/5 if the beach was as nice as we saw down in playa Del Carmen. Everything else from food to service was well above our expectation.

Room Tip: Get rooms closer to beach, less walking distance....

We stayed at the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda for 3 nights of our 14 day honeymoon (We moved around resorts on the Mayan and Cancun, to get a good idea where we want to return for future vacations to this area.)

We will NOT be returning to the Blue Bay. The negative points to our stay far out-weigh the positive.

The main one is the beach issue. They really need to address this issue and start the beach reconstruction. It is NOT OK to allow guest to book the "beach front" hotel when it’s nothing more than a 3 meter long rocky, sea-garbage covered, area entirely covered in sand bags.

The grout from the tiles of the bottom of the pool has come out, so we stubbed our toes on some of the chunks that have come loose.

We were on the bottom floor, and every night we woke up to carts being rolled down the corridors in our complex. We asked to get changed to a none ground level, and the front desk staff said there were NO other rooms available our whole stay....

We were given an internet password that didn't work, and when we went back to ask for a new one, the front desk said there were no more available that day, as they only give out one per room, & we have to come back the following evening to request one even though we didn't have one that worked at all?!

Room Tip: Don't stay on bottom floors of complexes, we woke up every night to carts being rolled down the corridors.

I read the reviews before booking and was very apprehensive... Glad I didn't go by them. Booked three days for my boyfriend and I; My room was very clean. I stayed in building 6, close to all the shops, restaurants and activities. A brief walk to beach. You can use grounds transportation.. I didn't mind the walk. My room was a deluxe suite with room enough for 4. Maid service daily, if requested. Clean sheets. Restocked fridge daily with free water, soda and beer. Hotel shows were good but We ventured out a lot to enjoy Mexico. Easy to book a meal at restaurants but if they fill up you can eat at the buffet. Food was good.. not exceptional. Depends on how much of a picky eater you are. For a someone on a budget, this is your place. If you want more then you should pay more... Better beaches in Cancun and Playa del Carmen... but those hotels/resorts have roads that are almost not accessible after it rains. Roads on the Rivera Maya are better. Only con is the people trying to sell timeshares. They hound you and call. So just avoid it. Its usually your concierge that is trying to reel you in. A/c worked well. Don't leave balcony open too long... a few mosquitos. Bring some OFF.. Staff spoke enough English for me to get what I wanted/needed. Near some marshes so you have a slight swamp order but the reviews are exaggerated. If you are a drinker, I'm not, but I had one or two drinks and the liquor is not strong. My margarita tasted like a salty slushy. Beers are ok.. my boyfriend liked them. But its all free.... Cab ride close to Playa Del Carmen and ferry to Cozumel. 20 US dollars. You have to take a Mayan tour but best to book activities before going, You will probably save more money. I recommend Tulum and Chichen Itza with Gonzalo as your guide from Go Natural... He's awesome and hilarious.... I would go back...

Room Tip: Choose close to the front. Beach view ok but faraway from food and activities. My building was clean and quiet.. near the pool and snack bar
