Though renovations are coming, the facility is beautiful. The location is great, and the seaweed all over the beach obviously isn't the hotel's fault. The staff is nice, though the bellmen, maids, wait staff and pool service staff far more so than the front desk staff, who weren't particularly warm.
Much to love with the overall experience, but weird hiccups that hampered a "relaxing vacation." Upon check in, my keys didn't work, twice. The outlet next to my bed was loose--and went unfixed, despite my reporting this--so I was concerned about my phone and batteries not charging. The food options were generally decent and plentiful, but at a lunch buffet I wanted a hamburger, which was available, but there were no buns. And it literally took 15 minutes for them to get one.
Riu was recommended to me, and in terms of the structure itself, I'm glad I stayed here over Hilton, Hyatt and Paradisus. It was a pretty good value.
But I think I would try somewhere else if there is to be a next time.More
