Myself and my Wife came here in 2009 and had an amazing time and met some wonderful people. So now were married and was talking about where we would like to go on our honeymoon, we decided to come back here and I can honestly say we didnt regret it.

1) Arrival: When we arrived we got the usual welcome drinks and checked in with no problems all the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

2) Rooms: Our room was what you would call "basic" but it had everything we could of wanted it was clean and tidy had a tv and a huge bed (which is good as my wife likes to sleep like a starfish) and a decent bathroom. The room was brilliant it had a little lounge area with sofa and coffee table then the balcony which had two recliner chairs and a table and a pull out rack to put clothes out to dry. in your room you have a mini bar which is 4 optic drinks (vodka whiskey brandy and of course tequila) which are replaced if they have been used. in the fridge you get bottled water club soda pepsi 7up and orangeade which is replaced daily at around 3pm. the only bad thing I would say about the room is our screen door to keep the bugs away was slightly broken so it was pretty useless.

3) Pool/Beach area: The pool was great if you want to sunbathe and cool down every now and then but you have to put up with people doing water vollyball and aerobics and pool games which is funny to watch what some of the Entertainment staff get the guests to do. if you want a quieter time go down by the beach where the palm trees are its nice and shaded but can move your lounger to the side and be in the sun all day and move it back when you get too hot or had enough and you get a really nice breeze to cool you down this was my favourite place to go. The only problem I would have with the pool area is that it needs to be retiled, nothing major but it wouldnt hurt.

4) Service: you can not ask for better service, it was amazing you never go with out, all members of staff are very helpful and will help you as much as they can, whether it's getting another drink or wanting extra towels for your room everything is done for you double quick.

5) Food and Drink: amzing food and amazing drink. we always ate in the buffet restaurant as we went to chillis before and it doesnt fill you up so we decided not to use the "specialty" restaurants onsite, the buffet restaurant is excellent again with brilliant service every one wants to make sure you have a nice time. the buffet restaurant does a few theme nights which are really good so it gives you a different selection every night and you dont get bored of the same food.

6) Entertainment: the entertainment is 1st class all the way the team are brilliant and always work very hard to make sure your having a good time.

7) Excursions: this ime round we only done two and they were Captain Hooks Pirate Cruise and CoCo Bongo's. Captain hook Cruise was the best night out I've EVER had its such a laugh, words cannot describe how good it is. CoCo Bongos is also excellent but if you do go i really recommend that you take the VIP option as you get an option of sitting down and a waiter to bring your drinks so you dont miss the show, if you dont then being on the floor area its packed so you can just about move at least of you paid the little bit extra you can choose to sit or dance. but i really do recommend going to these two things.

8) Wifi: the Wifi is free no matter how much you use it! we were skypeing family in england on the iPad and iPhone (TURN OFF MOBILE DATA) facebooking and the usual stuff. you just need to ask reception for a password and they give you a passcode input it when you want to use the internet and away you go.

I'm sorry that ive waffled on for ages and thank you for reading. Please go here and DO NOT listen to the negative reviews on here this hotel is amazing.

Room Tip: 5th avenue, if you decide to go here do not be fooled if shop people say to you that they recognise...

This is the first time ever that I decided to write a review. To be completely honest, I wasn't really sure what to think of this place at first. We arrived at the resort around 6 pm just in time for dinner. Checked into our rooms and one thing I would have to say that rooms are just okay. I have previously stayed at Secrets the Vine in Cancun&Hard Rock Hotel and their rooms and overall appearance were much fancier.Despite that we decided to stay at Riu Palace Riviera and give it a try, one thing that i have to say is that I'm GLAD that we did as this is my favorite resort now. I loved it that much that I decided to book the other Riu property over Christmas this year. We had a great stay and it was ALL because of the great people that work at this resort. We met Victor on our first night and he was truly amazing, best service ever. Our glasses were never empty.. Second day Victor was working on the beach area and I was truly impressed how he remembered our names and drinks after only one night there. Swim up bar wouldn't be the same without him!Entertainment team was amazing as well, big thank you to Diego, great time out ;) All of the people that we met always had a big smile on their faces and really worked hard. I can't wait to return to this resort next June!

We stayed at Riu Palace Mexico twice and Riu Palace Riviera Maya once. We liked both properties equally. The grounds are well kept, clean and impeccable at both resorts. The staff is constantly working to keep it perfect. The service was fine, greeting at check in was pleasant and the process was fast. Rooms are well appointed and large. First trip we needed a crib, got it within minutes of request. Subsequent trips we used a couch which was very comfy. Beds are good and bedding is clean. When you request extra pillows or blanket the staff gets it to you rather fast. Bathroom is large and clean, balcony is a good size. Food was good, main buffet offered a variety of selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lines for "custom" pasta or omelet was never more then a few minutes. Staff is extremely helpful, they would be there with an extra utensil even before you ask. Beach at Riu Palace Mexico was more shady then Riu Palace Riviera Maya. Pool areas are fine at both, not much shade but otherwise great. Spa is nice at both. Theaters are large and shows were sufficient. Kids entertainment was exactly what the "tired" child needed after a long, active day. Overall service and experience was lovely. Internet service is probably the only negative. We used it mostly in the lobby since it was bad in the rooms.

OMG... this hotel is simply out of this world and probably the best 5* resort in this price range. The hotel staff were so friendly, helpful and courteous at all times and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Go there... you WON'T be disappointed..... cant wait to visit again. Muchos gracias Team Riu for such a glorious holiday. See you real soon :')

The weather plays a very large part in most peoples enjoyment of a holiday. My family and I experienced some mixed weather HOWEVER this did not greatly distract from what turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

The Riu Palace met all expectations. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The en suite was of a good size and the bath/shower were comfortable to use . The cleaning/room service staff did their jobs well and our drinks fridge was kept well stocked throughout our stay.

The food was overall of a high standard. We sampled all the different restaurants and could not fault any, however the Fusion fine dining restaurant was our favourite. The main buffet restaurant offered a large choice of good quality food for all 3 meals/day. The restaurant staff were always polite and obliging.
Most people observed dress code requests but why some people feel it necessary not to remove their baseball caps/hats whilst eating is beyond me. Perhaps they think the food they eat is going to escape through the top of their heads!

The common areas were stylishly decorated and spacious and the courtyard impressive.

The gym was adequate but I have experienced better (and also worse) equipped hotel gyms.

The pool area was always busy and it seemed too crowded for my liking. People were guilty "of claiming sunbeds" early in the day in favoured positions.

We still enjoyed sunbathing on the beach area. Some of the sunbeds would appear to be in need of replacement. My biggest complaint was that the area between the beach and pool area was poorly designed. The beach showers foot wash were not adequate to give a good clean and people averse to waiting would traipse sand toward the steps and the pool area. This made washing your feet futile as you would pick up sand again on your way to the room. Perhaps the hotel may look to improve this area.

Outside the hotel I enjoyed our trips to Chichen Itza and also Tulum. The walk along the beach to 5th Avenue was also enjoyable, apart from the time we were caught in a thunderstorm on the way back! Still managed to Chill Out.

I had stayed at the Riu Palace Riveria Maya with my family a few years ago and had a great experience. A group of my friends all wanted to go to Mexico and I recommended the Riu. The flights to get from Dallas to Cancun were expensive, but the value that we got from the Riu was fantastic. We really felt we had great service, food, and especially drinks for the money we paid. We are all talking about how much we would like to go back!

Stayed at this hotel with a group for a wedding. The all inclusive option is great. The food was good and the service excellent. Always saw workers cleaning the hotel and they bent over backwards to help serve people.

Room Tip: Do not get a room by the stairs, it is very noisy!
