“Luxury Resort”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This luxury resort was almost perfect but staff needs to consider all guests equally.Guests in the ocean front villas are given priority service over other guests. We waited almost 2 hours for food/drink service because the waiters were providing service only to those guests who had beach front villas. In fact, they were actually waiting at the steps to the villa decks for orders & ignoring the the guests on the beach itself. Otherwise this was a great resort.
Also, we booked 2 rooms and were told they would be jungle facing. In fact they faced a construction ditch. We had to get our room changed and this caused us to have 2 separate rooms. This was not a pblm since our kids are 15 & 20. However this could be an issue for families w younger kids.

Room Tip: Don't allow them to put you in the rooms facing the construction ditch. They call this jungle v...

Dear LauraARM,
First of all, thank you for taking the time to write about your recent stay with us. Your comment about the service experience you experimented comes as a surprise; it certainly does not represent the Fairmont service we are well known for. I already sent your valuable feedback to the departments involved and hope you trust us with the correspondent improvements.
We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to Mexico.

We just got back a few days ago from a long weekend at the Fairmont Mayakoba! I can't say enough how great this hotel is! Great beach, food and the people who work there always seem happy to be there! Everyone was helpful with all of our questions. The grounds are amazing with the canals that run throughout the hotel. It was always fun to just look down the side of a bridge and see the fish go by. We took many naps on the beach and we were never once worried that our stuff would be stolen. We booked spa appointments for an afternoon- that was always amazing with the roof top pool and hot tub. I would recommend this hotel to families and couples!

Spent five days here before moving on to Cancun and loved the experience. Our two bedroom suite was spacious, clean and on the second floor which overlooked the canal and golf course. Waking in the morning and having coffee on a large wrap around balcony watching a multitude of birds and tropical fish was quite the experience. The hotel was spread out, though this was no problem with the frequent shuttles every few minutes or by hopping on a bicycle, which were available to everyone and enjoy a two minute bike ride to your destination. The food in the main pool restaurant served up excellent Mexican food, though the higher end Breezes at the beach was just adequate.

We did enjoy taking the complimentary canal rides to the other two hotel chains to enjoy their restaurants which we were able to charge to our room, which made it very convenient. Word of advise; take along bug spray as being in the middle of the mangroves at night has it's down side. The beach was kept clean and water was beautifully warm.

Whether you are going to Mexico for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, look into The Fairmont Mayakoba, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Choose a second storey room for a better view.

Dear MF,
Thank you for your nice comments on your recent stay with us at Fairmont Mayakoba.
How you describe the hotel’s experience is beautiful, truly representing the genuine connection with nature one can have when staying with us. I’m particularly happy to read you were able to enjoy the boat tours which is one of the highlights of the resort; also good to hear that you took advantage of the convenience of visiting the other hotels of Mayakoba and then having your charges posted at your room account at Fairmont, we enjoy expanding even more the culinary adventures of our guests.
We look forward to welcome you back.

Stayed he with family for a week. Lovely resort, okay beach and the grand baby loved the giant pool. The food was excellent at the restaurants. The only thing to spoil the trip was that we discovered some jewelry missing from the room when we were packing to leave. Also I thought I had lost some cash and now I'm sure. Could only have been the maid. When I reported it to Royal Service by phone --she wouldn't connect me to h manger-- I got a lukewarm response, not what I expected from Fairmont for a President's Club member.

Room Tip: Near the large pool would be my choice.

Dear travelbubba,
First of all thank you for compliments on the resort and honest feedback. It is very sad and disappointed to read that we did not provide a proper answer as an investigation is immediately conducted by the Loss and Prevention department whenever an incident is reported. The colleagues at Fairmont Mayakoba obey by a strict code of ethics, therefore this comes like a bid surprise and actions have been taken to look into this with more detail. I would love the opportunity to speak to you privately about this matter and see how we can remove that bad taste and continue to be your hotel of choice here in Riviera Maya. Please feel free to email me directly at paulina.feltrin@fairmont.com
Sincerely,
Paulina Feltrin

My boyfriend and I loved our 5 days here. This is truly a 5 star resort, and it was wonderfully romantic to sit at the gorgeous adults-only pool and order lunch and drinks. The resort-wide canals were lovely, and the beach was perfection. This is an excellent place for nature lovers. We spent hours watching at least a dozen of species of birds from the pool.

Food: I loved the poolside menu, though I was quite disappointed with dinner at the restaurant on the beach (service was rushed, food was bland). If you're considering this place for a trip, do it! But consider going off the resort for a truly gourmet dinner.

Dear durbinni,
Thank you for staying with us for your past romantic getaway. Just like you describe, the adults-only pool is one of my favorites spots too, the view and serenity it offers is just majestic.
Your comment about our culinary offerings have been passed to our Executive Chefs, however next time you visit us please contact us in advance as there are some tasty dishes like “spring rolls of cochinita with a mango sauce” or “Caribbean lobster tail in an Xtabentum sauce” that are modern interpretations of authentic Yucatan cuisine you would love to try.
We look forward to welcome you back at Fairmont Mayakoba.

Recently did a trip with my spouse where the kids didn't come and decided that since we had to find a place to stay the first day of arrival that I would splurge a bit and find something new and different. We have been flying into Cancun but staying in Tulum so this time I wanted to find something midway to break of the drive and also give us a new experience. Well, I found it, I went onto Travelocity to see what was discounted and found this gem. We aren't fancy people, we like Westin and the Hyatt, but this was a whole new experience. We arrived to the beautiful wall (the entry) and the gracious security guard got all of our information and told us where to go, as we pulled in we entered a whole new world. We literally were in the jungle, it was quiet, it was peaceful and immediately I was in heaven.

When we pulled up they greeted us with a nice drink and walked us to check in. Everything about the service here was amazing, the room we got was nothing special but as far as a hotel room it was special to us. We were near the main building and I had read somewhere that a guy had complained about the moldy smell. I realize that I too smelled it but it's a combination of the heat and A/C running and believe me it didn't bug me that much as we were out and about on the property the 24 hours we were there.

We had dinner, we went to the pool near the beach (closed due to a wedding and it was beautiful) and back. You have to take a cart everywhere and it's like a little town. When we got back to our room we had our slippers by our bed and our bed turned down, that's a new thing for us and we loved it. Slept perfectly and then we had breakfast in the morning, while we were planning our day to continue our drive to Tulum my spouse asked me if we could stay a few more nights. I told him no because we already paid for our casita in Tulum, but for sure next time we make it out to the Riviera Maya we are staying for several days if not for the entire trip.

There is a standard that you like and while I am not a resort person, this is different, it was so large you didn't feel the crowds (there was a convention there at the same time and had no idea) and people are so nice. If you have the money splurge but if you are looking for something different and special do the base rooms and you will be pleased. Hope to be back soon!

While we always expect 5 star service in 5 star resorts, we all know that doesn't always happen; however, we were pleasantly surprised by Fairmont Mayakoba. It has been a year since our visit, and it still brings back fond memories.

Architectural and design of the resort is great and it's expected. The bathrooms in the standard rooms are much better than the typical standard 5 star hotel rooms by size and amenities. It is a very large resort lot, but it is not a problem as there are golf carts ready to take you anywhere (your room, the beach, the pool, anywhere). ALL the staffs were so well trained. Each of them are courteous and helpful.

We especially LOVE the "private beach". the staff at the beach were very attentive and accommodating. Prices are fair and not overpriced.

Spa was also great. We visited the spa twice during our week long visit and we wished we had gone at least one more time!

The only thing we "HATED" during the stay was this stupid bird that couldn't stop screaming a few mornings. but that's nature =) We thought we would be attacked by mosquito since the resort is so lush, but I have to say the resort does a great job in getting rid of pest and mosquitos!

We will definitely be back!
