“Beautiful Hotel!”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

The hotel was recently built with an ecological consideration. It is surrounded by beautiful canals with natural mangroves and cenotes (underwater caves). You can take a complimentary boat tour around the Fairmont and sister properties, Banyan Tree and Rosewood. The canals are teeming with wildlife.

The pools wind through the center of the property with both family-friendly pools and private adults-only pools. Our 7-year-old daughter especially enjoyed the water slide in one of the smaller pools!

The rooms are clean and spacious with comfortable beds and luxurious bathrooms with soaking tubs and rain showers. They are all very private and peaceful.

The spa was amazing! If you book any spa service, you can use the facilities all day. The eucalyptus steam room was a nice treat! In addition, the mineral pool and lap pool located on the rooftop, were wonderful. They are like frosting on the cake after a relaxing massage!

The service was absolutely stellar. From the welcoming staff at the front desk to the housekeeping staff who left beautiful flowers on the bed every day, everyone went over and above their duty to ensure that our stay was a pleasant one.

*The only qualm that I had was with the travel agency on site. The woman at the desk was not helpful at all. When I inquired about what "rainy day" activities were available on or near the hotel property, her answer was "not much". She was more concerned with her personal phone call than helping me out.

Overall, the stay was great. We will definitely return!

Room Tip: The Signature Casitas overlook the canals, which are home to several species of birds and tropical p...

This trip was a celebration of my in-laws 50th anniversary. My husband and I brought our nine year old daughter. The hotel and staff were impeccable and the grounds were a high-end-slice of heaven. The rooms are like small apartments with lots of space and a bathroom to die for. The hotel restaurants were kid friendly and the pool was magnificant for families and couples. There are wonderful attractions in the area (pyramids and the Sea World of Mexico called Excaret). The hotel even got wind of the 50th anniversayr and left fresh flower petals in a heart shaped design on my inlaws-bed. There are shuttles to the beach (you are surrounded by jungles and canals which let you enjoy the back to nature feel), as well as BMW bikes to get exercise or go to the beach. The beach was so crystal clear with gorgeous, white, sand. Oh, and it was nice that the tap water was filtered, so you didn't have to worry about any nasty illnesses. I have never been to one of these tropical resorts before, and after this trip, I would highly recommend the Fairmont Mayakoba.

After struggling for a while in our last minute search for a family holiday around Easter, we now realize that we really got lucky in being able to book the Fairmont Mayakoba.
Mayakoba itself is a development in the heart of the Riviera Maya consisting of Three 5-star hotels: Fairmont Maykoba, Banyan Tree, and Rosewood Mayakoba. There is also a PGA golf course incorporated into all these properties.
Mayakoba is developed as a system of waterways and lagoons amongst mangroves. Complimentary boat service is offered to all hotels, which makes them all easily accessible and permits you to visit all of their respective restaurants (along with just being a great excursion).
The Fairmont is the largest property but still feels like a boutique hotel. It is also the most kid-friendly (children under 12 eat 1/2 price off of regular menu), with free kids club, bicycles, and water slide.
Transportation around the resort is provided by electric carts (24/7) and bicycles.
Service was excellent, kids can run around safely and adults can find multiple ways of relaxing whether it be active: walking, swimming, hiking, biking , golfing, tennis or sedentary; taking the sun or enjoying the exclusive spa.
Obviously, none of this is cheap. But if you can find a deal, it is well worth the visit and you will feel so spoiled that you will not want to lower your standards for any future trips.

Our family of four (kids 10&6) just spent 7 nights in a deluxe casita (btw..All Casitas are the same setup so not really worth paying extra for a view in my opinion - just be sure to get a second floor casita). Resort was very busy with apparently almost three times as many children as normal from a large tour group of families but it never seemed overwhelming. Often the bikes were all checked out and pool chairs were reserved VERY EARLY but there is so much space and so many options for beach or poolside lounging that it didn't really matter. There are miles of hiking trails, tennis courts that are complimentary to use (they even provide good rackets and brand new balls to use), a cave to explore, and miles of canals to explore by boat (again a complimentary service). Definitely take advantage of the canal ride and nature trails. There are animals everywhere. We came across deer, iguana, coati, baby alligator, raccoon, snake, and dozens of species of birds. Every day, all day, there are various birds squawking and singing or pecking away. At first it can be annoying but by our last day I couldn't help but think how much we would miss the sounds of the mexican jungle. It is truly amazing how the mayakoba developers were able to protect and even nourish the wildlife population while building such a magnificent resort within it all. The beaches in Mexico are the best in the world. The water is stunning. The amenities at the Fairmont were world class including an amazing spa experience and gym. The food and service at the two upscale restaurants La Puerta and Las Brisas were 1st rate all the way. If I had a complaint at all it would have been with the speed of poolside and or beach service (very slow at times - better off going to bar yourself) and the service and food at La Laguna restaurant near the main pool - Not bad but just nowhere near as good as the food and service at the others. The last thing I will say about our phenomenal stay is that the staff of the resort went above and beyond at every chance they could get. I am VERY demanding when it comes to service and while getting service on the beach or by the beachside pool was slow at times in every other way I was very very impressed. Always remembering your name and even when completely in the weeds with orders greeting you with a smile. Extremely gracious and genuinely kind people. That is what I will miss the most. We will definitely be back.

me and my wife checked in for a extended weekend, and we really enjoyed it. the property is nicely spaced out so you have your privacy yet at the same time close enough for easy access to everything. the transportation access was very good as well. if we as much as walker down the path for 30 Sec there was a golf cart behind us offering a rife. the beach was amazing. the beach service could use a little improvement. the service overall was top notch. Overall it was an amazing experience.

My wife and I, together with our son,daughter-in-law and their two young children spent a week in this excellent hotel.
There is a large pool that has been cleverly divided into sections so that you can enjoy your own private space. There are also pools especially designed for toddlers and a pool with a water chute that our eldest grandson found "amazing". There is even a pool with a bar!
The hotel also has access to a private beach.
It goes without saying that in a hotel of this standard the rooms and their facilities are outstanding. There is also a range of places to eat - you can experience fine dining or snacks by the pool. Whatever restaurant you choose you are assured of high quality food served by professionally dedicated waiter/waitress.
Everything about this hotel is of the highest quality but there are two features that stand out above the rest - the internal transportation and the staff.
Because it occupies such a large site there is a comprehensive and regular and free electric "bus" service that will take you anywhere on the site at any time of day or night.
All of the staff are courteous, friendly and eager to please without being ingratiating. The bus drivers always say "hello" as they pass by; so do the gardening and cleaning staff. It was reassuring to know that if you had a query of any sort any member of the staff would willingly try to help. It was as if all the staff, whatever their role in the hotel, were totally committed to making our stay as pleasurable as possible.
The Fairmont is suitable for families, couples or someone who just wants to get away from it all.
And I haven't even mentioned the golf, the spa or the boat tour.

Room Tip: A room in the 200s is almost equidistant between the pools and the main building. However, because t...

Fairmont Mayakoba (the other 2 are Banyan Tree and & Rosewood) is one of 3 properties in a gated resort community. The resort is quite large and beautiful. The grounds are beautifully maintained, every morning you see staff pruning or attending to the plants and flowers.

Beach & Pool
Beautiful stretch of beach, water was too rough to swim in.
There are 4 pools including1 adult only pool. The adult pool and the pool by the beach in my opionion were the most beautiful in regards to setting and design.

Food
3 restaurants on the property - La Laguna, Las Brisas, & El Puerto
All three restaurants were pretty good. La Laguna for buffet breakfast & lunch. Las Brisas for lunch and dinner. El Puerto for dinner only. We were at the resort on Easter break and the resort was booked (it was very visible around the beach and pool areas) but the restaurants were not full at all. Try the other restaurants at Rosewood.

Room & Property
Stay in a Signature Casita, it has beautiful views of the lagoon. The Deluxe Casita's do not have any views. If you want to spurlge, stay in a beach front casita suite. The resort is large, you may choose to walk, take a bike at the bike stations, or take a golf cart ride from one of the friendly staff members. There is transportation going back and forth the property should you decide to hop on along your route. The property is great for those who are active and love to run in the morning. Take the boat tour (free, but you must make reservations) around the lagoon, it's quite beautiful and interesting.

Surrounding Areas (other resorts)
Banyan Tree and Rosewoods' beach were not as nice as Fairmont's. The other 2 hotels are uniquely designed. Grand Velas is very nice and the pool is amazing, its beach is beautiful as well.

Overall
The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to help you. Everyone says hello. You treat others the way you want to be treated and they reciprocate. Great place and would consider going back.
