I read every review of The Acanto in Playa before I decided to visit. I am here to say that every positive review is exactly spot on! I am so happy I chose The Acanto for my much needed holiday. The property is beautiful and immaculately maintained. The owner and property manager, Matt, does everything possible to make sure that you will enjoy your stay. As soon as you arrive you are greeted by either Karen or Rafaela who will graciously help you with anything you need or ask about and they do this with everpresent warm, and genuine smiles. The courtyard is such a welcoming and relaxing area with a pool, candles everywhere, trickling water, soft music, and lovely seating areas. It has a hacienda feel to it. The rooms are spacious, immaculate, and beautifully furnished. As soon as you enter the property from either the beach or busy 5th Avenue you can feel the peaceful, Zenlike atmosphere. And the location can't be beat! The Acanto is a half block from the happening main street where all the restaurants, music, shopping, and people watching goes on day and night on quaint, cobblestone streets. The beautiful beaches with their powder sand and turquoise waters is one block away. Just go! You will be so happy at The Acanto you may extend your stay there as I did....after 4 nights, I just had to add 2 more. I am so happy I did and cannot wait to return. Thank you, Matt, for having such a lovely place for us to visit in Playa del Carmen.

The hotel was very comfortable, and conveniently located. The shower had good water pressure and was quite spacious. The bed was very comfortable. There is a roof deck with a bbq that you can reserve if you would like to do it. Great views from the roof deck.
Only complaint is that the hotel was not very well lit, and there are no room numbers.

i we are happy you enjoyed the stay..the deluxe rooms are part of a main room all of which are numbered. we will be adding additional markers for the deluxe rooms.. we thought our candle it romantic atmosphere was sufficient but will look into adding some additional lighting for the future. thank you for the advise

The Acanto Hotel was an amazing experience. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were very spacious and well done. The courtyard was very warm and inviting and the view form the roof of the ocean was spectacular especially at sunset. The location is basically at the center of Playa del Carmen and lots of shops and restaurants right outside the door of the hotel. A must stay.

My husband and I stayed at the Acanto Hotel last week and it was great experience
all around. This is a perfect boutique hotel.
Romantic candlelit courtyard with pool, wonderful location, clean lovely rooms, and a very accommodating friendly staff made for a wonderful time in Playa one block from the inviting relaxing beach.

Room Tip: Great neighborhood, very romantic and close to the beach!

We stayed here for a week and could not of been happier. Service is great with a caring staff looking to do anything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Perfect location centrally located. The suites with the private roof top hot tubs were a added bonus. I will be staying here everytime I come back to this area.

We just returned from a 5 day, 4 night living social stay at the Acanto Boutique Hotel and found it to be a wonderful experience. The staff was more than accomodating and very friendly. They even knew us by name just a few days in. We rented a car for 2 days and the parking was free and secure. They came right to the hotel to pick us up and offered the best price of the 3 places we checked. The rooms were nice. Our shower leaked out onto the bathroom floor when it was turned on to full power. We learned to adjust that. It would have been nice to have had a few minutes of a tour of the place. We didn't find out how to get to the top of the hotel (where there's a BBQ and jacuzzi) until the last momments there. We also never found the cafe and wine bar that were supposedly part of the grounds. All in all though, we thrououghly enjoyed our stay and would highly reocmment this hotel to others.

BOOKING:
The shadiness started when we first booked our Livingsocial deal. After having booked 4 nights two days later we had not received a confirmation email. We called and were informed there was no email sent out because the room could not be booked due to unavailability. Rafaela, the front desk girl told us that we could stay in our "Deluxe" suite for 2 days and have to move to a premium suite for the last two days AT OUR EXPENSE!

We told her that would be completely unacceptable as we had already booked our flights AND thought we had a reservation. She then attempted to make me feel bad and said she would have to pay the difference out of her pocket! and pleaded for me to pay half of the upgrade. I refused. She called back an hour later and sent a confirmation email.

THE HOTEL / CONDOS:
By no stretch of the imagination could this be considered a "Hotel". Rather, they are condos that have not been sold. In the mean time the owner is sectioning off the guest bedrooms to the condos as "Deluxe" suite. Whats a "Deluxe Suite"?

1. Two twin beds put together (When we booked a King),

2. No phone (advertised)

3. No Wifi (advertised).

4. Room service (advertised) - Instead Acanto is using a restaurant across the street as room service. Since there are no phones, you have to go downstairs and order from the lobby. You might as well take the 25 yard walk from there to to restaurant.

Conclusion:
We left the "Hotel" and were approached by the manager. He said we would not find a better room in Playa Del Carmen. He said rooms in the area did not come equipped with phones. And looked at us as if we were crazy. We told him we were leaving for Tulum, he said we would be roughing it. Having paid in full we had to leave, it was really that bad. We left for Tulum.

Tulum was the best experience ever. If you want to deal with nasty "Hotels" and "managers" and a Panama City Beach Spring Break 1995 atmosphere stay at Acanto and enjoy Playa Del Carmen. I'll be in Tulum relaxing by the beach.

Check out our review of Metizos, BeTulum and Rosa Del Viento all in Tulum. If you are in the area. LEAVE PLAYA DEL CARMEN. Dont even consider this "Hotel"!

This is bizarre review as the guest did not even stay at the hotel..
1. We always suggest that guests check availability prior to buying their airline tickets as availability is very limited and if we do not have a certain room type it is possible that there will be an up charge. Until a confirmation is sent it is not logical to think that any hotel has availability
2. the guest purchased a deluxe room from Living Social which is a room with king bed and bathroom, central air, plasma tv ceiling fan marble floors and balcony. This is excatly the room they were given
3. the guest insisted that they reserved a full 1 bedroom unit with kitchen and living room, however only when we asked to see the voucher they than admitted that in fact they did reserve the deluxe room.
4 they claim our website is misleading however all of the pictures and information is true all room types are described wand we have lots of other informative info on the website as well, perhaps they mean the Living Social website was misleading? Perhaps the guest did not know what they purchased.
5.Most hotels in Playa del Carmen do not have phones, however we do have phones in our 1,2 and 3 bedroom units
6. The guest spent less than 1 hour at the hotel and finally said that they thought we were on the beach and that they wanted a beach front property with a phone in the room and informed us that they had already reserved a room in Tulum, , which is beautiful yet rustic place to go
7. As always we maintained our composure offered the guest a voucher to return anytime and apologized for any confusion.

Our website is clear and true to what is says, our property is beautiful and new and maintained to very high standards as you can see from the more than 150 positive reviews, pictures here on Tripadvisor and on our website. Our restaurant across the street delivers to the rooms and we also provide private chefs if requested. The front desk and Concierge are happy to order food, shop for things for our guests. the maids clean daily and we are a full service hotel. Be sure to read the many many positive reviews from our satisfied guests

Playa del Carmen is a fun and romantic town with beautiful hotels, restaurants and beach clubs. If you want rustic and quiet Tulum is a better choice

Please check availability and room types with us before buying your plane tickets
