Went to the Royal with long time friends for a long weekend and we had a wonderful time. Check-in was a little disorganized and tedious but that seems to happen a lot at all-inclusives. Rooms were clean and nicely appointed. Beds were very comfortable, pillows were great! There is a large whirlpool tub in every room; we did not use it but you had a nice view out of the balcony from it.
Food- very pleasantly surprised. My previous experiences with all inclusives hasn't included great cuisine. The Royal had great food. Lots of choices at all of the restaurants and all prepared and presented.
We ate at TAPAS & PINTXOS twice. The shrimp was fantastic. Outside venue and really laid back atmostphere. I really enjoyed it.
MARIA MARIE- French/Mexican cuisine. Good service, very good food.
PELICANO- outside venue, was a beautiful setting. Had very good filet and crab cake.
24 HR. ALL INCLUSIVE VIP LOUNGE- great place to pick up snacks after sitting at the pool/beach. AC filled room w/ pool tables and TV's. We were here during the NCAA tournament and games were always on TV.
SPICE- buffet. Had breakfast and a lunch here. Lots of good choices, cooked to order omelets and tacos. Lots of fruits and baked good and freshly squeezed juice. Have the Marijuna juice!! (its the green juice-apple, pear, spinach and cilatro- no weed :) )

Service was great. Waiters and waitress were everywhere and we never had to look for one or flag one down. ASK for the top shelf liquor. Its available but you have to ask for it. one disappointment was that every drink was a mix. There is a ton of fresh fruit; I would have preferred some real banana in my dirty monkey's or real strawberries in my daquiries. We ended up taking some fruit form the buffet and having the bartenders use those fruits.

Beach - was the major con to this resort. First, you couldn't see the beach from the pool and I enjoy that during a vacation. I like to be able to see the beach and the ocean sitting at the pool. The beach had 3 rows of covered beds and then 6 rows of chairs. The covered beds obscure the view from the beach and take a lot of room. Another disappointment was that it seemed to be a public beach. The service was still great. But with the ferry next to the resort and locals on the beach, it took away from the overall atmostphere. It made the beach very busy and less relaxing.

The location of the Royal is a big advantage. It is one block from 5th Avenue. There are shops, restaurants and bars a hop skip and a jump away. We went out shopping one day and we had dinner and drinks out one night as well. We ran the gamit from experienced travelers to never being out of the country before and every one felt safe and enjoyed the promenade.

I'm not sure I would return to the Royal again, because of the beach that is very important to me, but I would recommend it.

Room Tip: There is a hotel being built right next to the hotel; ask for a room away from construction.

This is a great resort! Food, entertainment, beach, city life, rooms all were top notch and fun! f Enjoyed the drinks around the swim up bar. Played volleyball in the pool. drink service on the beach was great! Games around the pool made me laugh. Gotta get up early and save a chair at the pool if you want to be there for the day.

We have been to Mexico for three years and this is the best resort yet. The service was unbelievably good. Our concierge, Ana Carolina, was so positive and helpful. EVERY single staff member always had a smile on their face and were so willing to help. The Spa was magnificent. Had three treatments from Arte and I would highly recommend her. My friend has three treatments with Daysi and really liked her, too. The beach is beautiful ... the food is excellent ... the location is fabulous ... the rooms are exceptional!

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool may be noisier. But you may like that activity.

We just got back from the Royal, 15th-29th march. We booked the vacation about a year ago for our wedding. First off, I have to say that our wedding coordinator Lilia, was amazing. There was little to no hitches and every part of our wedding was amazing.

Upon arrival we were sent to the Royal Romance Concierge, where we had priority check in, and were given an outstanding room. 251. Good ocean view and a large balcony. Downside of the room was next to the hot tub, but we were rarely in our room, so the noise never really bothered us.

The first week we were there, we were rather busy with wedding details, appointments and photos, so we never really got to appreciate everything that was there or notice things that would bother other people. When the second week started, we had more time and finally started exploring the hotel and trying all the different restaurants and other amenities.

First off, when the head bell boy, has his hands in his pockets, and chewing gum while standing at the entrance, it should set off some alarms to his supervisors. They are very unfriendly and unless you are tipping them, they rarely have the time of day for you. Aside from the one bell boy who helped us with a hic-up with our key not working, the rest could use some more training.

Food next. The Restaurants were amazing, we mostly ate at Asiana, Spice and the Mediterranean. Il Pescatore was amazing food, but you do have to make a booking for this one. We ate at Maria Marie on two occasions. The first ended very badly with the worst service we have ever had at a resort. The waiter messed up every order, would not clear plates and almost spilled a cup of coffee on a family member wearing a white dress. He just plain ignored us. After we told the management they arranged for a do over to try to impress us, and that they did. Specially cooked meals and a dessert cooked just for our table. The Chefs were amazing, and short of that one bad waiter they did fix our view of Maria Marie. Tapas was amazing, Winston our waiter explained every detail of our tasting menu and made it an amazing experience.

The resort has a terrific location, just off 5th ave, Too avoid a lot of the aggressive sellers, we just cut one block up before entering and avoided most people. The beach is amazing and well maintained. We noticed them sweeping up grass on the beach in the morning and burying it, just to make the resort beautiful.

I could not end this review without mentioning all the awesome people that made these two weeks one of the most memorable trips ever for us.

Isabelle - Spa Azul (went above and beyond to make sure my wife was totally happy with her hair and even followed up after to make sure she was 100% pleased)

Winston - Tapas (As above, make sure you get this guy as your waiter)

Prude - server near Mediterranean pool (will make you laugh and will make sure you never have an empty drink)

Magdalene Salas - Our housekeeper (251) She make sure every day that we had the best pillow and towel creations and when a bottle fell out of my fridge, she was there with in 5 minutes cleaning up the mess.

Paco & George - Waiters at Mediterranean (very energetic and made sure we were always pleased with our meals. There was nothing these two would not do, to help you.

Im sure there are more amazing people I am missing, but these are the ones that went above and beyond. Besides the little things I have mentioned here, I would definitely recommend this resort. We stayed near the construction pool the last week just because it was quieter then the main pool. Dont let someone else tell you it is bad, cause its not very noticeable at all.

Room Tip: If you order ocean view, it does not mean you can always see the ocean. You may have to lean over yo...

The best massage I had in 20 years was from Denise at the spa. Book an appointment and ask for her. She did an amazing job of covering your entire body, including your scalp and face in the allotted time.

Let me start by naming PEOPLE who made our stay so wonderful. The people in charge of entertainment - Juan, Karina and Moshe were very hospitable and friendly and helped us feel comfortable far from home. The people in hospitality, Gabriella villagran was wonderful, making or room so romantic and sweet. My wife was charmed every night we Came back to our suite. As for dining, Chontal, chef at Pelicanos was great and Pelicanos food was incredible most of week - 3/5 to 3/12 all three meals. Concierge was okay, with exception of Yali who was very helpful.

We went through Real Club "tour" which was a 4 hour sales pitch done mostly annoyingly and unnecessarily so.

Great place to stay!

Our first stay was just after this place opened.Consequently,we have seen lots of changes and continue to be very happy about our choice of resort in PDC.The staff are simply wonderful, rooms much more than comfortable and the location is great. We love to wander the beach and stores. As a vegetarian, the choices in the a la carte restaurants were varied and tasty.Fabian,in Chef's Plate and Maria Marie was particularly attentive.Lunch and dinner in the buffet had few vegetarian options however.Perhaps more Mexican choices with beans would help.Prude was our beach butler of note, always attentive and with a great smile. The people at the resort put staff in other hotels to shame without exception.See you next year for more Mexican hospitality.
