“Favourite in Playa!”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

We visited this restaurant following on from reading some great reviews about it. Its in a great location, a short walk off the main tourist drag, so the atmosphere there isn't so hectic. The staff were really friendly and attentive, without being over bearing. The food is delicious and also manages to be a 'bit different' without being OTT. Each course was delicious, and the staff actually let us try a couple of ingredients that we were unsure of (such as grasshoppers!! .. which it turns out taste a bit like pistachio nuts - great!) I also asked for a recommendation for a starter and was advised Aztec Soup - the elements come in separate compartments and then you pour the liquid over the top, it looked amazing and tasted even better! This menu was really interesting with a good balance of complexity and taste without being pretentious, the staff were really professional yet friendly. We ate in many great places in Playa but this was our favourite!

“Cozy small restaurant away from a 5th av buzz”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

We went to this restaurant about a month ago, as i read good reviews on Trip Advisor and since live in Playa i always look for something new and far a way from comercial 5th av. Although the restaurant is on 5th av but it is in very far end which is really nice as its more quite and you do not see too many tourists walking around. The food is ok definetly nothing special as in other reviews, although my mushrooms for starter was really good but my pasta was really not that great, for a desert i definetly recomend to try mole chocolate cake! that was really good. As well they have very good drink menú,definetly worth traying. The service was very good i dont remember our waiters name but he was really very nice and assisting. Overall i would definetly recomend this restaurant to my guests(already did and all of them came back super happy) and tourists that comes to playa, but not for local people.

“bad food that tries too hard”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

We chose Mestizaje sin Fronteras based on the favorable reviews on Trip Advisor and the mission statement of the restaurant. Our first waiter was earnest and delightful, but that was really the only thing this place had going for it. We ordered an app (fritters of some kind), a salad, and two entrees. All of it was overly ambitious in concept and not tasty at all. Half way through our entrees a second server appeared with no explanation and we never saw our first waiter again. As we left, they pushed hard for us to leave a review on Trip Advisor, giving a bookmark with the TA logo on it. I've never left bad review before, but I think they need to put as much energy into the food as they do in their Trip Advisor promotion.

appreciate your comments we really sorry that your experience with us was not as expected. sorry you have felt pressured to leave a comment, because although if we give booksmarker with the logo of TA, also comes facebook, map and pictures of our dishes, we just thank the guests and we say that if they like leave a comment on any of the media feel that this has offended. I hope that if at some point you gives us another chance to be as good as others.

“Not quite up to its reviews!”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

My husband and I picked this restaurant based on the reviews. We read so many raving about the food and service so we were expecting the same. We left disappointed but given the excellent experiences fellow diners had perhaps it was just an off night for the chef and the waiters, Our dinner started off well with the waiter very attentive and our appetizers delicious. We had a salad and also the zucchini blossoms. We then ordered ravioli and duck for our entrees. The ravioli was good but not special while the duck was a huge disappointment. It was so tough that it was difficult to cut (and chew). The restaurant started filling up at which point services started sliding down. We had to request several times to get a drink refill. When the waiter asked how our meals were, we told him that the duck was tough and did not taste good. He did not respond (which could be a language barrier). We finally ended the evening disappointed and hope that it was just an off night.

“Another favorite”
Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

This restaurant is small, but wonderful. The food has incredible flavor. We had a portobello stuffed with another mushroom and goat cheese, salad of chopped lettuce, avocado, and goat cheese, tuna with a special crust and sauce. The tuna melted in the mouth. This will be an annual must.
