I know people always say to stay with a group but this is not one of those times. We rented a car and drove ourselves. We could stop and look at things as we wanted and felt no pressure to be back at a certain time like our neighbors at the hotel. We stopped at 2 Cenote's on the way back. The Coba ruins were beautiful. Normally we aren't lazy people but we hired a guy at the bottom to bike us around. He told us all about the history and took pics with our camera for us. Had a great day

We went to Coba as part of a full day guided tour including a visit to Tulum and snorkeling in a Cenote. It is a very interesting site and you are still allowed to climb to the top of one of the structures. I do not like heights any more but was able to comfortably climb up and down. The view from the top is amazing and there is enough space on the top to stand and feel comfortable looking out. Use the rope if you are like me and don't like heights.
It was definitely not very crowded and is close to Tulum and Playa Del Carmen.

This was an ALL DAY excursion. The Coba ruins are the only ones you can still climb to the top on, then we went to a Mayan village to hike, canoe, zipline and finally repel into the Cenote cavern for a float. AWESOME!

We drove ourselves to Coba. We hired a guide at the gate. Without the guide, one would really have to read up on Coba ahead of time so we felt it was worth it. We didn't allow enough time to really soak up this area. We enjoyed climbing to the top.

We did the express trip meaning we only came to Coba and then went back to the resort. It was a morning excursion. This was my favorite thing we did. You do a small tour and then are free to climb to the top of the ruin. Climbing up is a workout but well worth the awesome view and just being able to say you've climbed a Mayan ruin. The steps are slick but are wide enough. We used our hands and feet to get up. Coming down is a little more daunting. It is steep but don't let that deter you. There is a rope to help if you need it. Go you won't regret it.
