“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2012

Location was OK but not great (the other side of town is nicer). Breakfast was underwhelming and disappointing. Ants in the bedroom. This is the kind of hotel you'd pay 30 bucks for, not 50 or more...There are better options in Playa...

A very good hotel with a cheap cost and very capable and sweet owners.
It has a big collection of books in all languages.
The workers are very hepful and nice if you do not speak Spanish they speak english.
It has it's parking lot in good conditions.
It's very secure and if something could pass the security their are two dogs to save the day.
They have many contacts and can tell you one or two things.

We really liked this hotel. Although not on the beach, it's close to everything, but still quiet since it's just a few blocks from the main street. The rooms are spacious, generally clean, with working AC, internet and hot water. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. We had a problem with the shower in our room the first day and they fixed it immediately. We stayed there for 2 days then went off to Chichen Itza and Tulum for a few days. They let us leave our extra luggage behind and we picked it up and stayed with them one last night on our way back. Our main complaint is that the price of the room includes "breakfast", which does not deserve that name and consists of one roll and one cup of coffee per person.

We stayed in hotel barrio latino for three nights. The bed always seemed to be crawling with small ants. We accidentally spilled some soft drinks on the floor and i attempted to clean up with some wet wipes. The wet wipes became absolutely filthy with dirt , it made you wonder when was the last time they cleaned the floor.

Free wi-fi is no longer appreciated when you have to re-sign in every 20 minutes as the complimentary wi-fi is disconnected on your device on a regular basis.

Hotel Barrio Latino also seemed to be very conscious of their electricity consumption. You might just popping out for ten minutes to get a drink, but as soon as the reception sees you leaving the premises, they would turn off the air-conditioning that you actually paid extra for.

If Hotel Barrio Latino wants to be recognised as a hotel, it should start behaving like one .

Got it . Doesn't match with other reviews. Your profile doesn't help to know about your stay : but if you visited , and you didn't like, we are sorry.
As per the wifi, maybe you downloaded too much datas and that's why you were pushed out.
You'll see, we are a small group of honest people working every day at the customer services with a positive actitude: we are not perfect, but we try to do our best, which leads in several repeating clients : they do "recognize us like a Hotel".
Asi' es la vida.

This seems like a nice hotel, but it really lacks in service.

Basic rooms but nice enough for a 3 star hotel. Both shower and sink tap dripped constantly, which was annoying and one of th bed side lights was broken and not spotted for 3 days.

Breakfast is very simple and not buffet. Many rules displayed stating you can have one of one thing or one of another etc. A little unnecessary and makes breakfast choice very restrictive!

We stayed for 4 nights. On late arrival of 10 pm we discussed the prospect of a late check out of 1 hour on our last day (standard check out is quite early at 11am and midday suited us better). We were told tht this woud not be a problem, especially given our late arrival on the first evening.

A couple of days later, once full payment had been taken, the hotel decided that they now wanted an extra payment for the additional one hour beyond check out. The payment wasnt far from half a nighty rate! This was very annoying and to make matters worse the receptionist was rather rude about the whole thing, saying "rules are rules" and going back on th hotels original stance.

This sums up the feeling of the stay in the hotel. Despite an initial relaxed feel about the place, the rules posted everywhere and arrogant staff help in making your stay as uncomfortable as possible.

From what i heard, you are better off trying Casa Tucan opposite for your stay!

Mr. Tom,
just as you had promised, and to confirm that the negative comments will be written faster than the positive , have sent your opinion on staying at the Barrio Latino.
I read some information that deserve our attention, but I apologize to readers if in this case I do not dwell on those details.
In this case, and having clear what happened, I must unfortunately say that I prefer to receive a negative comment that accepting an unnecessary blackmail, as in thiscase.
During his stay, and unlike all the other guests, including the polite lady who accompanied you, always smiling, you have created a barrier that we could not overcome, adding personal rules that were not ours.
It 's quite logical that you have not been able to get something more' than you had paid, 'cause without dialogue ... remains only a brief business relationship with its price lists to the public.
Hundreds of comments scattered throughout the web will show that not only we are flexible: we have a courtesy service for those who want to stay at the hotel waiting for the flight, leave your luggage safely and go to the beach the last day before traveling to home.
The cost? A friendly request to the clerk of the moment.

I conclude by reminding you that it 'is reasonable to accept that a hotel looks for an economic result through its rates. Which rates are we talking about? Was it so expensive to extend
Then I leave to readers the latest information. The promotional fare you paid at check-in: 490 Mxp (37 USD Including a room with King Size Bed, private bathroom, air conditioning, refridgerator, hairdryer, wifi, courtesy continental breakfast, daily maid service, etc.).
The cost of the extra hour: 80 Mxp (6 usd).
The shower / changing room after check out: free.
( Prices are two , so cut in two when traveling w/friend or significasnt other...)
... Maintain a professional position when warned that unless you do as I say, will put a bad review on Tripadivsor: priceless.

I stayed 3 nights in the 'Bonita surprise'-room (#16) at the end of the row downstairs. It was a very nice room with airco en of course the personal hammock (which all the rooms have). Being at the end of the row there was very little noise so I had some good sleeping nights.

The staff is very nice and has some good advice on the beaches and tours.

Location is perfect! 5 minutes walking from busstation and the beach and even less to 5th Avenue.

One item of concern is the wifi which barely worked inside the room. The staff pointed out that the wifi-repeater was installed right outside the room but maybe they forgot to turn it on so doublecheck on that.

Breakfast is simple yet good but starts a little too late (8 AM) if you want to eat something before taking a tour (I got picked up at 7:45 twice).

Room Tip: Bonita surprise #16 (ground floor, left side, end) was good for little streetnoise but I think the k...

A fast information first of all, for the following bookers : The Bonita Surprise (when you find it, book it) is a limited offer appearing only in our webpage booking engine : by choosing this rate you get the services included in every Superior room package, but you can't choose the bed size : and get a special, reduced rate .
As the name suggests, you can get the room # 16 or every room among the available in the Hotel, the day of the arrival, it will depend on the management's decision : if you prefer to book a specific room with a specific bed size, then use the web page booking engine, again, but go for a specific room (two twin beds, or a king size, or a double, or a queen).
I apologize for the wifi - let me give a specific information : router of room #16 is the lazy one. He might work and suddenly stop, we never switch it off - so please if you are in the Hotel let us know and we will reboot.
The other routers (outside room #10, outside, room #24, two more of them down the breakfast and business area, and the two in the reception area, together with the two ones covering the entire Calle 4 block) give no problem . You will see, a strong will to cover every inch of the Hotel and more, and we will try to do better.
As per the breakfast hour, we can be flexible if you need a strong coffee+ bread before going out on tour, just let us know !
Thank you very very much for writing, comments like your one are honest, usefull, and there's no doubt you visited!
Andrea
