The accomodations are comfortable but basic, not luxurius (if you're looking for unfettered opulence, look elswhere). This is a great location for making the transition from being a tourist at an insulated, all-inclusive resort to being a traveler to nice small city in Mexico. It's close enough to 5th Avenue to have easy access to the tourist shops and restaurants yet also close to the other local shops and eateries where the prices are more reasonable. The hotel isn't right on the beach but the hotel provides towels and complementary access to a nearby beach club, if you're into beach lounging. The hotel staff are very friendly and are glad to make suggestions and help you plan your activities. The in-house bar is a relaxing place to hang out for guests and locals (closed on Sundays) and has great margaritas.

At first glance, i was nervous about staying at this hotel, because none of the taxi drivers knew the location of the hotel, and because of the first look of the hotel from the outside, but i was confident about all the reviews read here at tripadvisor, all my doubts cleared when i met Cheri and when we get into the rooms, basically is a very very clean hotel, cozy, and very very conveniently located.
It was the smarter decision made about this trip with my friends. Im looking forward to get back to Playa and stay again at the Luna Blue Hotel. Dont hesitate, great choice at reasonable prices.

My husband and I arrived and were immediately greeted by the owners of the Hotel. They were very helpful and arranged for some site seeing tours for us. The room was very cute and as cozy as we pictured it. The staff was friendly and made sure we were comfy.

The bar was one of the greatest parts I would say. Swings for chairs! Wow, that was a great change. The funny thing is we don't really even drink and we had a blast. The town had some interesting places to see as well as the best food places.

We wish we could of stayed at the Hotel longer.... We had to get back to reality though. I hope that we can make it back again next year..

The most relaxing, affordable and fun vacation. The Owners and staff at the Luna Blue Hotel were fabulous. They made our vacation a very pleasant experience. The hotel was clean and quite and the staff very friendly and nice. Clean rooms, a fun bar, and the location close to the beach and to 5th Ave is wonderful. We had everything at our fingertips. Thank you to Tony and Cheri for being wonderful hosts and doing the extras with us to ensure a great vacation. I highly recommend a trip to Playa Del Carmen and the Luna Blue!!!

this IS a real nice hotel for its type and price. believe me there are some dumps in Playa -some quite nearby to this establishment, however make no mistake- this is an EXCELLENT place to stay for any reason you find yourself in Playa. not an all inclusive with all the mess, not a bed and breakfast . its an "older " style of Playa hotel with its own distinct charm. excellent housekeepers keep this place IMMACULATE inside and out. owners are very genuine and are American. desk staff speak english well. everything in the rooms works- there are no noisy air conditioners here , or ceiling fans that squeak, shake and roulade- inspiring fear of decapitation while sleeping underneath one. ive had every ridiculous to nightmarish problem imaginable at "hotels" in Playa. you will find none of them here. i wouldnt stay anywhere else. perfect location away from the big noise, yet only a few feet from 5th ave. thank you Luna Blue Hotel for a slice of heaven this summer. cant wait till fall!!

We stayed four nights in a treetop terrace room at the Luna Blue while on our honeymoon. We wanted something nice, but affordable. We were very happy with our choice! Passes to Mamita's beach club (only two blocks away) allowed us full access to beach chairs and umbrellas, without paying beach hotel prices. The room was clean, and the A/C worked very well. It was nice having a large bottle of water and refrigerator to use. The grounds are beautiful, and the hotel was very quiet. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.

This was our first trip to Playa Del Carmen, so I'm not making comparisons between Luna Blue and any other hotel, but we selected Luna Blue based on tripadvisor reviews and were very pleased with the result. I felt the location was ideal, as many other reviews here state. The room was clean, the courtyard and bar were nice (and beer was 20 pesos, vs 34-40 anywhere on 5th Ave). Tony, Cheri and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. We met a lot of great folks at the Luna Blue bar as well. I'm not really sure what else to add; we were looking a nice place to stay that was easy on the budget. We stayed eight nights and got each fourth night free, as currently advertised on their website. Lack of a television was a plus in my opinion (even more so next time should we take our daughter, although she might not agree).

In contrast to others reviews, when we left a deposit for towels, we got our money back when we returned them. Yes, we had to ask for passes to Mamita's; not sure why that would surprise anyone. For Bluecacao, you just needed to present Luna Blue's business card and tell them you were staying there. Much less crowded than Mamita's, 100 pesos via taxi, and we walked back each time (about an hour). Mamita's staff didn't make us feel unwelcome at all, but perhaps that's because we had breakfast there before hitting the beach.

We were sorry we waited until the end of our stay was near before following Tony's advice on dining (La Pesca, if I remember correctly, when we asked for a good seafood place). That turned out to be the best meal we had during our entire stay at much better prices than you could find on 5th Ave. They also directed us to Mexican Blue Dream when we inquired about dive shops, whom you can also read about on tripadvisor.

On the (minimal) downside, getting a hot shower was generally a crapshoot, but showering in the afternoon or evening after being outside most of the day instead of each morning after sleeping in the AC made it bearable. Interestingly enough, we were only awakened in the morning by construction on Saturday. There was quite a bit of construction going on in the general vicinity of 5th Ave., so I doubt Luna Blue is the only hotel affected by noise. Other than that, we were undisturbed by noise from 5th Ave., or even the Luna Blue bar. It would have been nice if I could have accessed the internet from inside our room, but stepping out into the courtyard was really no big deal.

All in all, I think Luna Blue deserves the high rankings it gets on tripadvisor.
