“Spotless and Perfectly Located”
Reviewed April 27, 2010

We just returned and stayed outbound for one night in the Deluxe room as we have two kids (9 and 13). The place is very tidy and well cared for. The staff very friendly and professional. The breakfast which was included allowed you to choose from 3 generous options on the menu- not just a cheap buffet set up. The beach is very pretty and there is free wifi throughout the hotel. We really liked it and were very comfortable at the hotel. If we return to Playa Del Carmen we would definately stay here again.
Thanks to the very nice staff who served us on April 25/26.

While we were not staying at the Playa Maya Hotel (although it is in our future, I'm sure) we were able to enjoy the hospitality there as we rented chairs and an umbrella on four of our vacation days. The price of chairs is slightly higher than neighboring hotels, but well worth it as they are the comfy cushioned kind. My sister got a nasty sunburn on our first day in the sun, so these were a lifesaver for her. We also enjoyed four delicious lunches at Playa Maya. My first meal was the coconut shrimp which I loved! I also had the chicken nachos, the fish tacos and on my last day the coconut shrimp again. All were really excellent. My sister had the Playa Maya burger, chicken tacos, beef tacos and the seafood marinara. We cleaned our plates every time! We were on a little "one drink a day" vacation and mine was a pina colada. Very, very good and nice sized for 70 pesos. My sister was little miss margarita and she said Playa Maya's ranked as #1 or #2 for this trip. The restaurant staff remembered what we liked to drink from day to day even though we weren't staying there, so that was nice. I also witnessed an employee at Playa Maya being very courteous to a (pretty darn drunk and obnoxious) woman when I would have probably avoided her. He listened patiently as she wanted to talk and talk and did a great job of keeping her tone down. I wish I had paid attention to his name. Anyway....we really enjoyed our "hang out" days at Playa Maya.

We loved the Playa Maya and this was our second trip to this great hotel. This trip we were able to stay two weeks. Staff are fabulous, breakfast is great, location is the best and love the towel decorations. However, this year ours were a little lacking in dazzle... . Always so much fun to see what towel creation is made each day.
We will be back next year for sure.

I spent 8 nights at Playa Maya at the end of March in room 204, a double with two beds and a small balcony with a beach/pool view. I had friend staying with me for a portion of my trip and the room was spacious and comfortable for two. The hotel is conveniently located on the beach just a couple of blocks from 5th avenue so it's easy to walk everywhere. Being on the beach with no roads on either side makes the place very quiet and peaceful in the evenings. During the day the beach area and restaurant were always lively. I really enjoyed meeting some of the other guests and all of the staff at the hotel and restaurant were wonderful. Getting towels, beach chairs and umbrellas was quick and easy and food and drink service on the beach was first rate. I loved this little hotel. it was spotlessly clean and well maintained and the whole place has a peaceful, happy vibe that all of the staff and other guests I met seemed to share. There was a mix of young couples, families with kids of all ages, grandparents and middle aged single travelers like myself and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves at Playa Maya.

Took the ADO bus from CUN. About $32 for 4. Was easy. One stop about 7 blocks from the hotel.

Took the collectivo from 2nd Calle and 15 Ave (about 8 blocks) for $3 each way to Akumal. Highly recommend Akumal and the collectivo (van/bus)

Walked 5 blocks several times to Walmart for things we needed.

Breakfast on the beach (included) was really great. Eggs and bacon, hotcakes or fruit. Small tip to have your umbrella set up was worth it.

Several dive trips and dive/snorkel to dos ojos cenote with Dive Mike's. They did a great job.

Restaurants-Ceviche and Fish Tacos and Playa Maya were great. Casa de Agua was the best. Fine dining. Resonable price for what you got. Recommend a trip to Alux for the bar but the food was slightly below average.

We were at Playa Maya the last week in January. We chose this small hotel because it is right on the best beach and it is in the center of town. The hotel and and restaurant staff were very friendly and attentive, answering our questions and making us feel at home. The room was super clean, well maintained and the bed was very comfortable. I like that each room has its own water heater. There was plenty of very hot water for a really long shower. It was wonderful to be served a full breakfast under the palapa on the beach every morning. It is easy to see why so many people are return guests to Playa Maya, it is almost like having your own beach front home in Playa del Carmen.

Our family of 3 stayed at Playa Maya from 23 Mar to 28 Mar in the 2-room Economy Suite. We really enjoyed the visit. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. Our suite was clean, roomy, and well maintained. We had really good breakfast and lunch meals at their restaurant on the beach. You can't beat the location. You can step right out onto the beach or turn the corner and go up a block and you are right on 5th Avenue. The staff was great about toting our bags to/from the shuttle. (We found that the closest the airport shuttle could get was 2 blocks away at the intersection of Calle 8 and 10th Ave. - but that was not really a problem). The one item that kept our hotel stay from being a perfect 10 was that the Economy Suite is subject to a bit more noise than the other rooms. In general, the hotel is quiet. You will not hear any late night shouting and running around and it is far enough from nightspots and street traffic. However, the Economy Suite has "windows" that overlook the lobby (there are other windows in the back also), so you will get occasional noise though the glass from people chatting at the front desk or moving things around. But even this ceases completely from about 10pm to 6:30am. So the only problem is if you like to sleep in or take an afternoon nap and are a light sleeper. Since I fall in that category we would probably try another room on a return visit.
