“Nice resort”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

This was our first time to the Mayan Riviera, found a last minute reasonable package and booked it. After reading reviews we were skeptical, however once we arrived we were warmly greeted with a glass of champagne and extremely friendly service. All of the staff were so kind and gracious. Our room was two double beds, but the concierge had picked this room out for us for our first trip together so we didn't care because it was so thoughtful, pushed the beds together and everything was great! The rooms were clean with air conditioning and hammocks on the patio. The food was great and the beach was beautiful and clean. Yes, like all of the reviews say they do allow boats to park in front of the resort, but walk ten feet in either direction and you have nothing to complain about. This hotel has the best location, five minutes to Playa, and an endless strip of beach to enjoy. We really enjoyed our time and GCB and would probably return. Great vacation for the price. The staff really made the trip!

Room Tip: Don't skip the Italian a la carte!

I have to start out by saying, I was a little bit skeptical of coming after reading the reviews. We had a lovely time! Make sure to go and visit 5th avenue, lots of good shops as well as bars and restaurants. For only $5 you can catch a cab in front of the hotel! One of my favorite parts of the hotel was the cat that was roaming around the property, he is such a sweetie!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hated to leave. The resort staff was great and really kept the guests active (if that's what they wanted) Otherwise we were free to lounge on the beach. We found everyone to be helpful and competent. We have already recommended it to family members.

Room Tip: Despite some of the reviews we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grand Coco Bay. It was close to to...

Husband and I were invited by a group of his friends and spouses to go. They picked they place. We got a good deal thru Expedia for 5 nights, airfare and the all-inlcusive packaged. I looked at it as the food and drink were "free" since I could see paying what we did for just the airfare and hotel room. Good thing that was all I expected. The food was "edible" as in you can eat it for substance, but I had trouble finding anything "good". Spices and flavorings are not heard of. Again, there is nothing wrong with the food, just nothing I would choose to eat. Ever. Even the two restaurants upstairs, as opposed to the buffet, were sub-par. And I am not a picky eater. Really. The mixed drinks were fine....simple and lower end liquor, but fine. They only serve tap beer at the bars/restaurants. I prefer cans/bottles, so disappointing. They do put 2 cans of Sol in the fridge in your room daily.
The resort itself was clean and cute. I found the boats by the beach "charming" and not at all distracting. Still plenty of room to swim. The service was good with the exeption of the front desk. We did not get the room we booked (King/poolside) and they didn't want to be bothered to give us the right room. Gilberto at the lobby bar was friendly and energetic.
Lots of people playing the "towel game" made it hard to get loungers after 9am.
Its a $5 cab ride to "el centro", so conveniently located.
I would only recommend this resort if you really needed a vacay and couldn't afford to upgrade to something better. It did it's purpose, but I would choose to stay somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter. They won't give you the right one. Our friends also didn't get the ro...

My wife and I stayed at this hotel the end of January. It was nice. but we came for the beach and it was very small as alot of it has been washed away. The view at the beach was a bunch of boats that were sitting out there in the water parked there all the time. With beach being small obviously it was crowded and people were pretty much right next to you. The pool was very beautiful, but we are beach people and can always be at a pool. The food was good, but you only had two other restaurants. The snack bar closed at 7;00 and so did the bar by the pool, so the only bar open was in the lobby. If you wanted a late night snack you were out of luck. Every day we always short towels for our room and had to find the maid and not always did they have enough. The beds were very very hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. Can't go to town at night unless you took a cab. Rooms, tv and beds need updated. No WiFi and they charge $15 per day for it. Plus when we were leaving to weigh your luggage to go to the airport(keep bags under 50 lbs), they had a scale and will charge you for this service. Anything your charge at the hotel on your credit card(they take in pesos not us dollars), you may be charged 3% of the amount to convert the charge from pesos to American dollars from your credit card company. Frig in room didn't have much in it as you may think. Like I said you were SOL for anything late at night. The staff on the other hand was very friendly and nice.

Stayed at the Grand Coco Bay for a 10 day trip at the end of January. The rooms were nice and clean. We had asked for a king bed, but got two doubles instead. Not a big deal.

The food was good at the buffet, and the two restaurants were excellent. The staff was great and the entertainment very good. The dancers were so talented.

The beach was small and there were boats anchored off the beach, but it just added to the charm of a small resort.

Perfect for us. Loved it.

Room Tip: We liked the ground floor rooms

We traveled with another couple to Grand Coco Bay, the last week in January. We paid for an ocean view room, but could not see the water because palm trees blocked the view. That was a bit disappointing because we had spent the extra money for nothing. Our room was very clean-- would have preferred one larger bed, rather than 2 doubles. Our room had a connecting door. Not a problem, till the last night we were there. Whoever was in that room kept us up until 3 AM arguing loudly. You could even see light coming through our door from their room. I really didn't know what to tell the front desk to get them to quiet down. There was great security, they may have been what finally got them to quiet down. The food was quite good, especially breakfast. We did not get to go to the Mexican restaurant, but the Italian was very good. The people at the front desk were not very accommodating. When asked questions they continued to work on computer and seemed disinterested. Oscar in the lobby was terrific!! The entire hotel staff, bartenders, waitresses, housekeeping worked very hard to make our trip enjoyable. The biggest problem we had was with Gabriel in the lobby. From the moment we got there he started pestering us to go and see a sister property, The Reef. At first we considered it, but everytime we turned around there he was, in the lobby, by the pool, in the bar, etc!! It was VERY annoying!! Of course, we wound up not going and losing the $20 we gave him as a deposit. There was one waitress who was especially hard working and friendly!! I am so sorry we did not ever get her name! I believe it started with Jac, she is such an asset to the resort!! The grounds, common areas and beach were all lovely and well kept. All in all a very nice stay--we would go back.

Room Tip: Our "ocean view" room on the third floor was not. We probably should have insisted that t...
