“Wonderful Hospitality Year After Year”
Reviewed March 23, 2014

We have been vacationing at Fishermen's for ten years now, and have never regretted making this our vacation home. The warm and welcoming staff do an outstanding job of service, beginning with Marcial at the door (who always remembers us by name!). The restaurant staff bend over backwards to make every meal a treat, even taking a special request for fresh cilantro in my husband's breakfast omelette at the grill (which meant a trip into the kitchen to get some). The meal plan was very reasonable and high quality, and we appreciated the special rate without alcoholic drinks. We had asked for this option in earlier years, and are grateful for the responsiveness to our suggestion for this choice. The wait staff (Alejandro, Ivan, Massiel and others) were always attentive and friendly.

I do have two complaints: 1) Ramshackle bicycles are barely rideable and in great need of repair and maintenance. We have mentioned this many times, and even gifted a set of repair tools one year so that bikes could be maintained. No improvement yet. 2) Beds on beach were filthy and should have sheets put on them. Old dirty mattresses without sheets are very unappealing. The sister resort at Tres Rios does a lovely job with clean beach beds. They should share their protocol.

The prime location of this resort makes it a fabulous place to be--right on the beach, close enough to fall asleep with the sound of the surf. There is a great beach walk in either direction, with private homes on either side, and enough distance to other resorts & hotels that it feels quite private. At the same time, it's only a 15 walk to 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen with it's abundance of restaurants and shops. This place is THE best for location, location, location.

This place is pretty awesome. They have a beautiful beach and resort. The service is top notch, shout out to my man Jesus aka Chuy for his awesome service and friendliness! The food was great and the people were great. It is also very close to downtown Playa Del Carmen which has great shopping and entertainment.

We had a front row room near the water, the closest we have stayed on the beach. Room was clean and nice size and everything works well. Bed was a little hard. Bathroom could use a longer shower glass to prevent the water from getting on the floor. Fixtures, especially the shower are dated and could use a replacement.

We had an all-inclusive and the waiters - Victor, Felipe, Benjamin, Daniel and barman Jesus were great. They were very attentive and made us feel very comfortable. Since not everyone at his location are required to be all-inclusive, the waiters had more time for those who ate at the restaurant regularly.

Excellent location with each room overlooking the beach and only a stone's throw from the water. Twenty minute walk ($7 cab ride) to many excellent restaurants in Playa. My only complaint would be my lack of ability to communicate with many of the key staff. I was misled or misinformed on a few occasions because of language issues (my Spanish, their English). Look for Alejandro the waiter when you are there - his English and service is excellent.

Otherwise a very pleasant stay. Not too big, many friendly guests, clean and safe. Had a great time. Bad Boys Beach Bar in town was a favorite for live music and dancing.

Room Tip: There are a few rooms that don't have a direct view of the beach. I liked our room (facing east...

Chef Lázaro gave us an excellent lesson in making decadent crepes. He shared his simple secrets with us in making perfect complimentary sauces to cover rhe peach filled crepes. Lázaro loves working for Fishermens and enjoys the beauty of this paradise in Mexico!
Thank you Lázaro and thank you Sunset Fishermens.

Our two weeks stay at Fishermen's was very enjoyable. Fun seeing old friends and staff and meeting new ones. Few resorts can match the proximity to the beautiful ocean and white sandy beach. The welcome buffet helps to take away the pain of registration and the welcome party on Sunday is delightful.
Marcial, the bell man, is always so friendly and always gives us a warm greeting and he remembers our names. We always look forward to seeing him when we visit Fishermen's.
Miguel, Concierge, was very helpful in meeting our needs and always available when he was on site.
Oscar, front desk, was always very helpful and he had a great sense of humor.
Sairi, reception, always pleasant and friendly and want to help when ever we needed something.
Miguel Ojeda, member services. We now have more confidence that the room assignments and reservation system will be handled more competently. This has been one of our biggest frustrations when making reservations and getting our confirmations in a timely manner.
Gerardo and Ana, Activities staff. They did a great job in trying to please everyone with activities. They had a variety of games and forms of entertainment and attempted to reach all ages of guests that were staying at the resort. Fun people to be around.
Wait staff were all very accommodating. We especially enjoyed Rafael, Alejandro, Adan and of course Victor.
Last but not least our spa visits are one of the highlights of our trip. Reception-Noemi was very efficient and communicates very well. Luis has been giving us massages for years and he is an excellent therapist. Vicki-we enjoy her too and she is always very fun.
Some comments and suggestions: the WiFi needs to be improved in the rooms. It was nice to finally have WiFi in the rooms, but it only worked part of the time.
The upgrades in the rooms were appreciated.
The cushions on the beach lounges were nice, but there still is a battle over the umbrellas and reserving chairs not being used.
When signing on items purchased at the resort, i.e. meals, drinks, etc., they need to give the person signing a copy of the receipt at time of signing.
Most of the TV channels are in Spanish and we would appreciate a greater selection of TV stations in English.
.

Room Tip: request a room with an unobstructed view of ocean. The sunrises are beautiful

Fishermen's gets better all the time. We attended a 'mole' cooking demonstration today at lunch time. Very well organized and explained in English by Lazario , a young man who wants to become an accredited chef in his future. The complicated prep for this exotic recipe had been done well before we sat down for the demonstration. Within half an hour we were eating a very delicious version of this Oaxacan treat. Lazario was a big part of this, with Miguel putting on the finishing touches. Hope this happens again next Monday, as we'll still be here.

Room Tip: This is a very small hotel. Every room is close to the sea. Some are up a couple of flights, but the...
