Modern and well done facility. Perfectly groomed course.
Could be a bit more challenging but nice layout.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for posting your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed the conditioning and layout of our golf course. Grand Coral resort is the home to first golf course design in Mexico by the legendary Nick Price. It was created to offer everyone an enjoyable experience, while still providing a challenge to players of all ability levels.

Still just only 2 ½ years old, we are looking forward to continuing to provide all our guests with a memorable golf experience, and becoming one of the top golf course destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean.

We hope to see you back again for many more years to come!

“Gorgeous Course”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

I played to rounds at Grand Coral while staying at the NOW Sapphire resort. Grand Coral makes two pickups at NOW Sapphire and select other resorts. Roundtrip transportation is $10 and will be much cheaper than a taxi in most cases.

In association with the resort, a morning tee time cost $85 and the twilight tee time is $50. This covers the cart rental and a bottle of water. You can rent Ping golf clubs for $50.

The course gets busy especially at twilight. However, I did not have any trouble finishing the course in 3-3.5 hours without bumping into other groups. I did pass one group during each round.

The course is immaculate. It's certainly the best maintained course I've played at so far (compared to my local home courses). The layout is compact with minimal travel distance between holes. The 9th and 18th greens are within 50 yards of the pro shop and snack bar making it very convenient to make a quick pit stop.

Keep in mind that the course is in the jungle. If you shank the ball and it goes off of the course, don't expect to get it back. If you're a bad shot, bring plenty of balls. Having said that it can make for an interesting time. I encountered a small flock of vultures just off of the 16th green.

Really, though, the weather makes this a great course to play in the winter. Sunny, clear skies, and 72 degrees in December as compared to freezing temperatures back home.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. Though they do try to upsell you on goods and services, it is a business and you can politely decline. They offer a yardage bookfor $2, but if you hunt around on the fairway you can findyardage markers (yellow numbers on valve covers and the like). As I was playing two rounds, I checked my golf clubs at the course and picked them up the next day. It was very convenient.

I will be playing here again next winter.

“Nickle and Dime You”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

Played this course last week. Arrived as a single and got paired up with 2 other singles. Made for a more enjoyable round as a group. While the course is relatively new, it is in remarkable shape. There are a few fairway bunkers that are stragically well placed. Greens run true with no large swails. There was nobody else on the course while we played, so makes me think that people are staying away because of the cost. There are other good courses in this area that are just as nice and less dollars. Booked through a Riu Hotel in PDC for a slightly reduced rate, however they charged me $ 15 US each way for pickup/return. Later found out that there has to be a minimum 2 players being picked up for the free transportation. Then when you get there they ask you if you want the meal/drink package for another $ 25 US. What, for water, the odd beer and a sandwich.
Last January played the El Manglar Course in Puerto Morales, their price was very reasonable and included free pickup/ return from Cancun.
Next trip will most likely play the Iberostar course further North of Playa Del Carmen.

Dear Golfnutt,

Thank you for your comments. There are currently 13 golf courses available to play in the Riviera Maya, which has truly made this a great golfing destination, as well as a great destination for the sun and sand seekers. Of the 11 championship caliber courses in the region (El Manglar not being one of them, since it is a short course with 18 Par 3’s) we are positioned as one of the most economical to play at USD$165., (morning prime time, winter season). Our optional USD$25., all-inclusive food and beverage package on the course includes: beers, whisky, tequila, rum, vodka, sodas, powerades, turkey sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, veggie sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers.

Safe, reliable shuttle van service for two, or more players is included in the USD$165., rack rate and can be scheduled when booking your tee time. We rely heavily on hotel concierges to be able to communicate accurate information to our golfers, in order that when you arrive to play at the course there are no surprises at the counter.

May I suggest in future that you contact us directly via email, and our staff will be more than happy to let you know of any specials, or promotions we are offering, and can make your reservation directly with you.

We look forward to seeing you again!

“Great Golf”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Course was a challenge...Would definitely recommend this course. We played three times in the week we were visiting. Course was very well maintained...Greens were excellent. Lots of sand , but not enough rakes was the only drawback. You soon learn to stay in the fairway as the ground cover rough was hungry for golf balls.

Dear Tom,

Thanks for posting your comments on Trip Advisor. When the course first opened 2 ½ years ago, one rake was provided on each golf cart, and there were a few others located on some of the larger bunkers around the course. A revamping of this concept has lead us to now provide at least 2-6 rakes around each bunker depending on their size and location. With 75 bunkers incorporated in the design, we now have over 300 rakes on the course!

We hope this will keep our guests happier even though they had to play out of the sand!

Thank you again for your valued comments.
