Lunata is a little hidden gem amongst the hustle and bustle 5th avenue.

We were drawn in by the garden which, although only feet away from thousands of pedestrians on 5th avenue, feels like your own private oasis. This garden is beatiful place to enjoy an early evening drink and whilst doing so we saw a number of people 'drawn in' from 5th avenue to investigate because the whole place is so charming.

A nice, fresh, continental breakfast is is sevred at a large communal table in the garden which is a nive way to start the day.

The architecture and design of the hotel gives it it's real charm; archways, alcoves, domed ceilings and mosaics litter the hallways, stairways and bedrooms.

In our room the cherry on top was the beautful bathroom; A walk-through archways leads into a large mosaiced shower room big enough to sleep in!

The place was spotlessly clean and the staff could not have been more helpful.

Beautiful.

Room Tip: Our room was one facing 5th avenue and was a little noisy; the problem for us was the morning rather...

Right on famous 5th avenue with tons of local artisans and high end retailers you could spend days exploring the area. The rooms are rustic but very clean. Erika was great and pointed us towards the best restaraunts. The continental breakfast could be improved but overall.....a great stay.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at this lovely little hotel. It was charming and well situated on the pedestrian only 5th Avenue, one block from the beach. While it does not have some of the features that people come to Playa for - pool, restaurant, tequila bar - what it does have is a lovely and quiet garden, a continental breakfast in that garden, and a warm and very helpful staff who are eager to make recommendations and reservations for restaurants and tours. (You know who are Ms. E, A, and F.) This is a perfect location and ambiance for travelers looking for an alternative to the all inclusive resorts and loud beach bars. There are steps to climb to the room on the upper floors.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden will be quieter than facing 5th. But it will probably be warm or hot regard...

Second time at the Lunata. Stayed 12 nights, mostly in the junior suite, a spacious, nicely decorated room with a kitchenette, great shower, lovely balcony with table & chairs, blackout drapes with sheers and perfect Wi-Fi. Very clean. Modest but healthy, tasty breakfast outside under a palapa. All the staff are very friendly, helpful and eager to make your stay enjoyable. They will help you with anything you need. Erica and especially Fabiola are wonderful. The Lunata is just steps away from the beach, close to many restaurants, shops and the Ado (bus depot), collectivos & taxis and also the ferry to Cozumel. Perfect location right on 5th avenida.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter and the junior suite has a lovely balcony. If you prefer to watch ove...

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel very much. After three week roundtripping in Mexico and staying in a total of 12 hotels, we consider the Hotel Lunata as one of our Top 3. Its location is very good in terms of beach access and since it is located directly on 5th Ave, you just have to leave your hotel and you are already at the place to be. Nevertheless, the hotel is very quiet. The staff was very friendly and courteous. If you are looking for a hotel in Playa del Carmen, this is definitely a good choice!

Hotel Lunata is in prime location on 5th Av. The service was exceptional and this was a very beautiful hotel. You can hear the noise on the street side rooms, but it is not enough to keep you awake at night. The mattress was a little hard, but then again I haven't found a pillow cloud mattress yet in Mexico. I will stay here every time I visit PDC :)

This little boutique hotel is a gem on the main pedestrian strip Avendina La Quinta (5th Avenue). The two reception ladies Fabiola and especially Erica were extremely friendly and helpful in every way possible. They suggested places to go, see and eat.

The rooms are nice and big each with a balcony and there is a fridge in the room. Each of the 10 rooms have names instead of numbers - Cordelia, Ariel etc and I stayed in Ofelia. There is excellent free wifi available.

There are a few things to be warned though even though I loved this hotel.
- it is quite noisy all night and you can hear the bass of club music around.
- no tea/coffee making facilities
- American continental breakfast was pretty plain with 3 choices of cereal, plain white toast and a plate of fruit with orange juice.

On the plus side though:
- lovely helpful staff
- comfortable bed
- air conditioning
- balcony
- free wifi
- fridge
- use of beach towels everyday
- close to the heart of the what Playa de Carmen is - beach, bars and restaurants.

I would recommend this hotel totally but just be warned it is not luxury, more quaint oasis.
