I was here for 3 nights as part of a group of 20. Based on the Trip Advisor reviews, I had low expectations but they still exceeded them.
The resort is massive and signage is terrible. While you have bird's eye maps, it's hard to tell where to go once you get to the massive buildings. Finding my way out of the lobby to the building with my room was a chore, and I stopped 2 different staff who were unable to help me.
The food ranged from mediocre to terrible. On the plus side, I actually lost weight - a first for an all-inclusive. The vanilla soft serve was so artificial tasting we threw it away. (Yes, we threw away ice cream - that's how bad it was.) Even the Mexican food was bad - not sure how this was possible but I suspect it's just the poorest quality ingredients they can find. Expect buffets of soupy guacamole, slimy fruit and food that has been sitting out way too long. I can't imagine how anyone thinks the food here is good.
With very few exceptions, service ranged from nonexistent to gruff. We were either ignored entirely, or seemed to be inconveniencing waiters by trying to order food. It was impossible to get tea or coffee in the morning, and the self-service station was lacking in supplies. There was no poolside drink service and the bars are grossly understaffed -...I was here for 3 nights as part of a group of 20. Much like the food, the drinks are made with he lowest quality ingredients. There are fresh limes and some mint for mojitos but everything else will be coming from the gun behind the bar. Most drinks are made weak unless you request otherwise. They do have some top shelf brands but you must request it.
Housekeeping was hit or miss - one night it was great, another they left only 1 towel for a double-occupancy room. A/C was weak and I question whether it actually ran all night - despite being set to 15 our room was only slightly cool in the morning. Rooms are large and stocked with plenty of water, which is good since twice we tried to get water at bars and they said they were out. There is a lot of hallway noise and the walls are pretty thin, so don't expect to sleep in if your neighbors are up early.
The "free" wifi is restricted to 1 hour per day in the lobby. This is literally the slowest wifi I have had anywhere in the world, including the savannah of East Africa. (.48mbps download speed, .36 up) And the only place we could get a signal was near the freshly varnished railings, so we sat huffing fumes while trying to check our email.
As other have said, this isn't a beach resort. There is a small, rocky lagoon with salt water. There are plenty of pools and plenty of chairs, just not in the shade... and any chair you do find in the shade will be covered with bird poop or ants.
They do offer plenty of activities and the wildlife was probably the only pleasant surprise - we saw deer very close, monkeys in trees, and tons of iguanas. On the down side, we also saw a snake drop out of a tree onto the sidewalk right in front of us.
I have stayed at much better 3 star hotels, so I don't know how this place can call themselves 5-star. There are so many better options available - spend your money elsewhere.More
