“Playa del Carmen Perfection!”

Ocean Maya Royale is a fantastic resort. Adults only. Wonderful staff that keep you as busy as you want to be. Food was all good - every place we ate. Don't listen to the negative reviews. The beach has had some erosion but that is what happens to beaches. They have a swim up pool bar and tons of activities to keep you busy. The rooms, the evening shows, the walking paths, the vendors that come right to the resort, the animals roaming around to entertain you.. everything was superb! Go there and have a wonderful vacation!

Room Tip: We like to walk the garden paths and see the iguanas and coatimundi so any room is great to us. We w...

This is a very nice resort just shy of the "wow factor". The beach is a good size with lots of shady spots to lounge at. The food was good the main buffet restaurant has a different theme every night which makes dining fun and interesting. The desserts were mostly lack lusture. The pool and lobby bars serve nice drinks and the bartenders do a really great job! The nightly entertainment was different each night some shows were really outstanding while others were just okay. The staff at this resort are super friendly and fun to hang out with. I would have loved to see more fresh flowers as decoration. There was on going construction throughout my stay which could be heard from the pool and on the beach. My room was on the third level and the elevator was broken most of the week so that wasn't great. There were two power outages one at night and one during lunch time and we didn't have running water in our hotel room for an afternoon. All things considered, the stay was great despite these minor glitches which were taken care of in a timely manner.

Well what can I say? we have just returned from an amazing 11 night stay at the Ocean Maya Royale and will most definitely be going back. The check in process was very quick which after a long flight is always welcome! the room was huge, lovely walk in shower and kept spotlessly clean by our maid. The staff work tirelessly on maintaining the grounds which are stunning. The beach I would say isn't the best in the area but you only have to walk a short walk along the beach to find some lovely clear water. The beach and sunbeds are great, never once had to fight to get a sun bed and although the hotel was full it felt peaceful the way we wanted it, however there was a noisy area of the pool where you could enjoy the music, games and drinking around the pools if you wanted that. The food was fantastic and the Italian was our favourite, although my husband left his glasses behind and they were stolen which put a dampener on the the evening a bit, but it didn't put us off going back.
The evening entertainment was great, have been on many holidays and steered well clear of the rubbish entertainment but the guys at this hotel are very talented and put on great shows every night.
Our holiday Rep Zara was amazing! I had to spend 2 days in a Mexican hospital and she really helped us out, looking after us and making sure we had everything we needed and knew how to handle things.
I guess the only down side is that it's a way out from any real night life and cost around £25 round trip in a taxi into Carmen, but for us a relaxing holiday was what we wanted and we got what we paid for.
Will definitely be booking again!

One thing to be aware of is to add £45 per person to your spending money as you get charged this to leave the country! shame we didn't get told this when we booked as £90 is a lot to suddenly have to pay out of your hard earned spending money!

We just came back from a short stay at this great resort. The number one positive comment I can leave is about all of the staff. They were remarkable from start to finish. All extremely friendly and accommodating to our requests.

The food here is also great. The buffet is only mediocre but it's hard to expect much from pre-cooked and mass-produced food. You can't beat the convenience of eating immediately and eating as much as you want! We had a chance to try the Italian and Asian a la carte restaurants, both were phenomenal. If you want high quality food I would recommend either of these places. All beautifully prepared and tasty. The Japanese/Asian restaurant chefs will also do a show throwing knives + utensils in the air and cook your food on a grill in front of you. They also had a barbeque and another smaller buffet-style restaurant in front of the pool.

There are two decent-sized pools, one quiet and one that is noisier/more of a party atmosphere with a swimup bar. They didn't have enough people working at the bar so sometimes it would take 5-10 minutes to wait before your drink arrived, but the drinks were all amazing. The beach is also very nice. Some people complained about the seaweed but it isn't really a big deal. The ocean is also a bit brown/muddy right as it approaches the shore, but not much the resort can do about that.

The room looked very nice and modern, and very clean. I have to agree with past reviews that the beds are quite uncomfortable, and if you have any neck or back problems I would take caution before coming here. I hurt my neck 2 weeks before showing up, and although it had healed up by the time we got here, the pain came right back after sleeping on these beds. I was usually stiff and in pain for the first 4 hours every morning. The bedding is also a bit cheap and not very soft or comfortable.

Overall, can't say enough good things about this resort! The last time I stayed in the Mayan we were at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso which was nicer, but to stay there you will have to pay more than double the price. So for the price of this hotel, you get a pretty good bang for your buck. Of the two hotels I've stayed at in the Mayan Riviera, I would recommend this hotel to those who are looking for a more economical option (i think this is a 3 star), and I would recommend the Iberostar if money is less important and you want a 5 star experience.

From the moment we arrived; with the welcoming drinks, luggage taken to our room - we were in awe of this resort. Smaller than many, the town house type condo units that hold 8 rooms have real style and character. The entire resort was clean, the staff works non stop to keep everything up to nothing short of top notch. Everyone has a smile and a helping way, always ready to get you what you want & need. Rooms are nice, clean, bright with very nice balconies, ours on the main floor looked out on the jungle - quiet, private and right up our alley. The meals were excellent, always something good to eat, from any of the a la carte or the buffet. We tried all of the restaurants, though the Italian was not our personal fav, the service was excellent at every one & food choices plenty. Drinks were delicious and plenty - you never had to wait long for another to arrive, with a smile from one of the great servers. Night life - there was always entertainment, though we were often too tired from enjoying a full day of sun & surf to partake in many of the evening fun & games. Only had 1 real complaint - the people that put towels on the ocean view chairs & beds & then spend entire day in the pool & this really reduces the space for the true beach lovers who want to enjoy the ocean we have come so far to see & swim in. 2nd issue - the "privilege' area is a bit larger than needed along the beach - there was a lot of unused beds that was help for the guests who spent the extra $$ to be in the privilege club - which we really saw not major advantage for. This ocean area usually only had 2- 6 guests in it at any time, but would hold 50 - 60 - sad that no one else could enjoy this area. We enjoyed 7 days at this all inclusive 18+ resort & would highly recommend to anyone looking for a wonderful vacation spot!

Tips -
1. If you like munchies ( chips) Bring some in your luggage! 15$+ American for a bag of chips in the hotel
2. Bring enough sun screen - very very costly at hotel or in Playa - $28 American for 1 container!!

Room Tip: Make sure you request a king bed if you want one - or you will get 2 queens, the 17 block units are...

A group of 10 women stayed at the Ocean Maya Royale from April 14th to the 21st. Plane ride and getting through Cancun airport went off without a hitch. (Didn’t realize that we set our watches back an hour, till I got there). Bus ride to hotel was about 40 mins. Check in was a breeze. Stayed in building 6 which was pretty well ½ way between lobby and pool, good area, fairly quiet. Rooms were nice, only one sink for 3, 2 sinks would have been nice. Glass door separating sink area from bathroom, not much privacy. Toilet says not to flush toilet paper, we did and had no issues. Only one plug-in in bathroom. Safe functions with a key instead of combination. Need extra room key to operate lights and A/C. A/C worked great, beds were a little hard, but not as bad as others have posted. Only 2 beer in fridge, left a tip in fridge to request extra. Coatis are everywhere, signs are posted not to feed them, but people do anyway, they can be a little pesty but they are harmless. Saw iguanas sunning everywhere. My friends saw deer outside their room. There were 2 large pools, the quiet pool, and the “party” pool which are right next to each other. People placed towels on chairs early in the morning even though there are signs not to do so, and some would show up at 11 a.m. and only stay for a few hours. Entertainment staff were great, they work so hard all day, then they are in the shows at night. Kudos go out to David, Giovanni, and especially Amy. Brought them whistles on lanyards, which they loved. They always had fun activities going on if you wanted to join. Drinks were good, Corona beer on tap. There is a self-serve pop machine at the swim up bar. Beach area is very small and the waves were a little rough, so we didn’t spend a lot of time in the ocean. Food was excellent, a lot of choice, the Japanese restaurant was great, the chef puts on an amazing show. Mike’s coffee house doesn’t open until 4 p.m., should be open in the morning. Italian was good, especially the deep-fried ice cream, but the restaurant is right by the ocean and was very windy. Saw one show in the theatre, but other than a few open doors, the theatre is closed in and was a little too warm for my taste, what I did see was pretty good. Wifi is available free in the lobby. We went for a guided walk 10 minutes up the beach to a lagoon, beautiful! Booked a taxi with the hotel to go shopping in Playa Del Carmen (just have the front desk book it for you), cost $40 US return, we went to 5th avenue, lots of shops, but be prepared to do a lot of bartering. There are a few shops on the resort, but a little pricier. I did purchase a beautiful silver ring with larimar stones in the jewelry shop. Martin, the shopkeeper was a sweetheart. There is a spa, but we didn’t try it, although Jesus was giving “sample” neck massages, and apparently he was very good. Swim up bar staff were great, they work so hard, they could use a few more staff to keep up. The 2 Daniels, Rafael, Jesus work so hard. I didn’t care for the coffee in the buffet, so I would go to the lobby and get a cappuccino from Fernando, he makes the best, super guy too! There are vendors on the resort 2 nights a week, lots of selection. If you have an early flight bring a flashlight as the pathways are not lit in the early morning and it is hard to see when you are going to the lobby. Overall, an amazing resort, staff was great, very clean , I would definitely go back
