Just returned from this resort and I am already planning on going back. There are a lot of great things about this resort. The staff is really helpful and make your stay extremely easy. Everyone from the front staff to the maintenance workers is always smiling and give a nice "Hola!" The grounds are well kept and beautiful. The cuisine is good, there are a few options including Mexican, Japanese, Italian and buffet. The Japanese is good with very good sushi. Mexican is good, nothing too fancy. Italian was very nice and a great setting since it is located near the beach. The buffet is okay, you can find a few things to eat. They try their best to include items familiar to us Americans, but sometimes fall short. The pools are immaculate along with everything else of course. The only thing that was perhaps a bit bothersome was all of the different staff members coming up and asking multiple times for massages, snorkeling, etc. But they are there to make money so I can't blame their efforts. All in all this s great place for couples to come and relax. I would recommend that if you like to go on some sort of excursion, that you buy it on a website before you leave for the trip. The trip we took to tulum was $90 total on cancundiscounts.com and it was around $150 or so when you buy at the resort. I loved the rooms, they were modern and very clean. Room service was good as well. I also recommend getting a season of pictures taken at the shop in the lobby. They give you 1 free picture and if you would like an additional picture it is $15 a picture. That seems steep, but the pictures and our photographer, sandy I believe was her name, were amazing!!!

stayed at many resorts in this area. the place was ok. food was about what i thought it would be. the beach area is as everyone has said not the best but i knew that before i arrived.the things the need to improve would to have more chairs around the pool areas. and of course people are playing the towel game. so if not up early you will not get a chair in the shade. they need more umbrella's around the pools. all in all a pretty good deal. we booked online for $130 a night. which was a pretty good deal.would stay again if the price is right.but anything above this price i would be looking at going back to catalonia royal maya. resort was nice as far as the grounds and rooms.our A/C was great. any questions let me know. we stayed here the first part of september.

My wife and I loved this resort. We stayed for a week. The resort is beautiful and the staff quite friendly. The grounds are well maintained. We got the beginnings of a time share pitch shortly after arriving, but after being clear that we had no interest at all in the "informational breakfast" we were never bothered again.

My boyfriend and I went down for a long weekend. I was worried beforehand because the reviews were so mixed. We have also stayed at the Secrets Capri a couple doors down so our expectations were not extremely high. We were pleasantly surprised. From the time we arrived until the time we left, we enjoyed our stay.

Check in did take a little longer than we had expected but we sat at the poolside bar and had awesome mojitos while they were finishing up our room so we really didn't mind.

The rooms were clean and nice and although they weren't as nice and big as some other all inclusives where we have stayed before, we did not care. We do not spend much time in the room and again, they were really clean.

The entertainment staff was fun during the day. Water aerobics, dance classes, trivia.....we both enjoy these kind of things.

We thought the food was good, the drinks were good, the staff was helpful and friendly, and we loved the entertainment.

Great resort for they money you spend. We will go back for sure.

We stayed at the Ocean Maya for 11 days early in September and had an excellent time. The hotel was very clean and modern, and the staff were always very helpful and friendly.

We stayed in block 21 which was half way between the pool/beach and the reception/main buffet area. From the pool to the reception was at the most a five minute walk, and the rooms are set in lovely well kept grounds with various local wildlife for entertainment!

There is a choice of four restaurants for your evening meal, and it was nice not to have to book a table. The longest wait we were told was 20 mins at the Italian, but there is somewhere to have a seat and a drink while you wait. The longest time we actually waited was 10 mins and we always got to eat where we wanted to. There was a good choice of food, which was always hot and well presented.

There are plenty of sunbeds, although those near the pool do get reserved with towels. We usually ended up on the beach which was clean, but was still being repaired from previous hurricane damage - mainly restocking it with extra sand. Yes there is some seaweed – it’s the sea after all, but the staff were working hard to clear what was being washed up after the storm. If you wanted a seaweed free patch, you only had to head down to the right or left a couple of hundred yards. We walked down to the lagoon for snorkelling which was 15 mins along the beach from the hotel, but there were plenty of fish if you swam from the hotel beach.

The two pools were a good size, and we stayed in the quiet one which had two shallow ledges at one end were you could sit in the pool rather than swim in it. The pool / beach drinks service was excellent and we were never without a drink – the waitress works very hard. There were plenty of activities if you wanted to take part, but also the space to stay away from them if you wanted a quiet holiday.

There was different entertainment every evening off the square, but you could also sit by the pool bar if you wanted a quieter evening. The sellers with stalls on the square were varied. We found that they did not hassle us at all except if we stopped to look at something they would be persistent in trying to secure a sale – an unfortunate sales technique that appears to be used by most sellers in Mexico – reminded me of Egypt.

We had excellent weather during our stay most days 31-34 degrees and sunny. We only had an hour of proper rain one evening, and a bit drizzly one morning.

During our stay we visited Tulum, Coba, Xel-ha, and Coco Bongos – all to be recommended. We booked most of our trips through Thomson, and the Tulum trip we booked with the travel agency in the hotel reception. All of our trips were on air conditioned mini buses which arrived on time and provided refreshments throughout the day. We also got a taxi into Playa Del Carmen which was 200 pesos (aprox £10) as the shuttle bus had stopped running when we arrived. The taxi trip was only 15mins and Playa has a lovely beach.

Everywhere takes US Dollars – we were advised not to take them and only take pesos but USD is still the main currency.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable holiday at a good hotel.

Room Tip: Block 21 was in the middle of everything and we could hear no noise from the bar or the pool.

The staff here are so friendly and welcoming. we never once walked past anybody without them greeting us with a smile and hola! throughout the whole holiday we wanted for nothing. our glasses were always full thanks to Ivonne at the pool. Jessica was always there to see us to our table at breakfast and lunch, and Sarai was always there during the evening. the room was always spotless. Having read through a number of good and bad previous reviews, it appears most of the negative com ments come frome the American guests! We ate in all the restaurants and never had a bad meal and didn't meet anybody who had. I would certainly recommend and I would definitely return

Room Tip: If you want to be closer to the beach, don't go premium or prestige. prestige is a lot extra for...

A warm and friendly welcome to a lovely clean hotel. We arrived to a champagne reception and our luggage was dealt with straight away. The staff work so hard to cater for your every need at the resort. our room was always clean and our fridge was always full. They are all so friendly particulary Uri (mr smile) from the entertainment team who always made us laugh, great guy!

Overall a great holiday, great beach and a great service !
