Not sure why all the bad reviews but my wife and I recently ate here.the staff was friendly and the food was very good. Our waiter made guacamole right in front of us. We told him we were very warm and he quickly brought a fan over to us (Mexican air conditioning). He also politely took our picture for us. Would return on our next trip to playa.

On our first night in Playa del Carmen, our little group of four was tired and hungry. La Frontera was close to our condo and didn't seem to be too crowded. The food we ordered was good. I wouldn't return within the same week, but possibly on a future trip. It was quite warm in the upstairs seating area, but they turned on large floor fans to cool us off. This blowing air was a bit annoying to me, but we did need some heat relief. I had a chili relleno that was nicely prepared. Only one to an order with beans and rice. A friend had a shrimp entree and while they were quite tasty, they still had heads on which was a bit of a turnoff. Two other friends had chicken....an entree I never order or care much about, so I cannot review those. Drinks were fine...nothing extraordinary, but nonetheless refreshing. Margaritas, Strawberry Dacquiri, and Rum and Coke. Service was very friendly, attentive, and efficient.

They were very nice to make us visit the restaurant, said they'll give us 2 drinks for the price of one and then when the margaritas came, they were in small glasses, instead of big, the seafood plate that we ordered wasn't freshly made and not delicious and on the top of it when the bill came, they added taxes and said in their restaurant taxes are not included, which was a complete lie!!!

this place s**ks big time!!! they bring you up there with a bribe of free drinks then you order food witch sounds pretty descent until it arrives in front of you, its really awful , i had a t-bone that almost broke my jaw since it was so stiff , my girl had some kind of fish platter that smelled like old fish that sat in the sun for 5 days. then the bill comes and its higher than the price in the menu. After chewing on a shoe sole and smelling rotten fish, the waiter was kind enough to offer us a toothpick !!! they are a bunch of crooks !!! they make fools out of us tourist...stay away, go at casa adela you wont be disappointed. if you want a tip on good restaurants , check out the bathroom first !!! They are one of the first restaurant on the fifth street and they will tell you that their price is the cheapest than the other restaurants but i tell you when the bill comes , its a whole different story!!! when you come to pay they give you 10.50 for your american dollar and offers you to go at the pharmacy for a better exchange !! and then the worker looks at you with a sad puppy face and tells you its not his fault he's just an employee!!!

Four of us were "suckered in" by the shyster on street level luring unsuspecting tourists under the guise of "real Mexican food"! What a load of crap that line, as well as the food, was! He promised a free drink each (which we did get) as well as free guacamole and chips. We got our drinks and ordered our dinners and waited for the guacamole. The waiter brought stale bread and a margarine type spread for us and we asked about the free guacamole. He said "oh no, there is a charge for that!" We said the guy at street level told us it would be included; but to no avail, so we did without. We ordered, garlic fish (grouper), coconut shrimp, breaded shrimp, and mahi mahi. None of it was fresh - all previously frozen and tasteless. The two shrimp dishes were way overcooked in fryer oil that needed to be changed long ago! All came with frozen vegetable mix (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower) and overcooked rice that was made many hours ago (perhaps even yesterday) and reheated.

Then, when we were leaving, the "shyster" on the street made a point of walking away from us and across the street as we were leaving - he knows exactly how bad the crap they are serving is and wants no part of the backlash from the customers he has duped when they're leaving.

Do not eat here! The food is at very best on par with bad hospital cafeteria food! Avoid it at all cost!
