First, a huge kudos for the service here- they don't just try harder they exceed every expectation. Hubere (at the spa) was amazing- gave so much personal attention to both myself and my wife to ensure we maximally enjoyed our time there. Jose and his lady comrade were super attentive in ensuring all was in order with our room and transportation. Alejandro seemed to be everywhere we were from the beach to the casual restaurant to their fin dining Ambar. He knew our favorite drinks and had them ready before asking. the bartender at the pool was totally on top of it. Even the guy who sailed us out to go snorkeling was friendly and really cared about making it a great experience. Finally, Martin was our gracious waiter at Ambar as well, and was the one who introduced us to the family of crocodiles who live on premises (not kidding!). Esmeralda (mama croc) and Panchito (baby croc) were so great to share dinner with at Ambar (except she gets turrets when there is fireworks, too funny).

So about the rest. The food is great, and much better than the Fairmont next store and way better than what you typically get from an all inclusive. It is really gourmet stuff, and my wife and I are foodies.

The room we had upgraded to had both a lagoon an ocean view. their rooms are very modern and comfortable. They are very romantic, to boot. The rooftop sun deck was a very pleasant amenity for private sunbathing. Beds were comfortable and the multiple showers just awesome.

The only negatives were when booking activities or dinner, we had to confirm multiple times or they would loose our reservations. Also the property really needs more aggressive maintenance on the little things (like the showers at the beach whose handle pull off or the shower heads in some rooms that were partially clogged). It just seems like these modern decor properties need more TLC, as they suffer more quickly from normal wear and tear.

Overall just a fantastic stay, and certainly an up and coming masterpiece in Playa del Carmen.

I am usually faster at writing reviews when I come back from a resort and although we loved our stay here I have to admit it is not for everybody, maybe this is why it took me a while to write
I am a travel agent and love to travel to the RM, I think the level of service is above other destination in the caribbean.
We were here mid-March, for 10 days.
The way to best describe this hotel would be: hotel turned AI
You will not find one bit of animation here (which suits me fine) and I loved the very quite atmosphere.
The hotel was 30% full when we were there and I wonder how they would cope with a 100% occupancy... They seem to be understaffed on several occasions, breakfast especially
We thought the food was very good, and I have to agree breakfast and lunch were the best. Having only 2 restaurants, they should add 1 or 2 menus to their rotation, I think
The staff is what makes this place outstanding, and this is why I'm giving it a 5
José, the concierge was like nothing I've ever experienced. We had 4 early tee-offs, so early that we could not have breakfast before leaving the hotel, he made sure we had room service on those mornings, and we only had to ask him once and everything was taken care of.
Priscilliano, Ceasar and Fernando at breakfast and lunch were very sweet.
If you like "something different" than your regular AI, then this place is for you, it is truly special!

Room Tip: We booked the entry level room and it was perfect, the largest room I've been at an AI

Thank you to Cesar in particular at the beach and the great concierge Martina and Mariel for making our week stay memorable with excellent service. Small, quiet, luxurious and spacious rooms made this trip wonderfull. All the staff is proud and always making us feel unique!
Food is delicious especially at Ambar restaurant, table outside by the pound and its 6 aligators is a must....
No reservation required anywhere and chairs by the ocean or pool for everyone...finally a hotel that understood!

Room Tip: Select a room at least halfway between lobby and ocean, about 750m, walking distance or carts always...

CHECK IN:
We arrived at 8 pm and where greeted by friendly staff members with a fruit drinks and moist towels.
Check in was simple and quick in a very peaceful zen atmosphere. A very nice start to our vacation. many
thanks to Adrexa, Jesus, Florisel and Aldo

ROOMS:
We where then escorted to our room: patio 5 no. 357 .Each contemporary style building has it own entrance with unique garden artworks. The room itself was at ground level , open concept ,modern design with tonnes of space.
The very comfortable king bed with good quality sheets and many big pillows was in front of 2 huge glass doors that gave us a direct garden and river view.
The mini bar was packed with sodas, beers ,juices and water. A variety of alcohol bottles including champagne was also available.
Minimal choice satellite tv with problematic subwoofer took 2 visits and 4 calls to the concierge to get usable: sub par for this 5 star hotel.

RESORT LAYOUT:
The buildings housing all the rooms are on a linear pattern. A 1.5km long walkway from the lobby down to the beach so you will walk long minutes if you don't use the cart service or cant have bikes during your stay. Beside the lobby were the gym and spa are located there is only one functional building : the Ambar restaurant-rooftop lounge and reception room. The Ambar is midway between the lobby and the beach. The other restaurant is directly on the beach :The aguamarina. in the same building you will find a lunch time snack bar and the beach sport center.

FOOD:
Like i mentioned earlier, you have 3 restaurant options.
The Ambar: witch is only open at night. Fix menu ,first class a la carte french cuisine. all dishes are well made , innovative, tasty and well presented. By far the best we have had in all are trips to Mexico. Service is beyond expectation. kind regards to Omar (no.1 for life), Manuel, Jesus, Martin ( the boss ) and Alejandra who greeted us night after night.

The Aguamarina :the only place to have breakfast but were you can have lunch and dinner if you want. Once again, great a la carte choices ,3 day rotating menus, fresh juices ,fruits and seafood. Attention to seasoning and presentation is obvious. As with the Ambar , the chefs go all out to serve the best to the guests...remarcable !! Thanks to all the team : Cynthia our hostess, Fernando from Brazil, Dagoberto,Prisciliano, Ricardo, Alejandro.

The ceviche: Beach front restaurant that offers bistro style dishes at lunch only. Good variety of tasty salads, grilled meat and fish, less fancy then the other restaurant but well suited for a quick snack on the beach. great bar service at the ceviche and the beach...many thanks to cesar and julio.

THE BEACH:
The hotel`s beach section is average, The reserved part takes to much space, hardly no one benefits from it and only beach front casita residents can use the space. all the "regular " guest are packed side by side on the remaining 150 foot beach. To enter the ocean you must cross rocky sections so water sandals are a must. The riviera Cancun beach it self is huge so you can walk for hours in any direction witch is great if you don't want sit all day.

Bottom line:
pros : Great adult only rest and relaxation resort , above average food , exceptional service.
cons : Minimal activities during the day, none at night, rocky beach ,many timeshare sales pitch , do your homework : http://www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/bluebayclub.html

I had the pleasure of spending several nights at the Blue Diamond Riviera Maya this past month. All in all, my stay was amazing, BUT there were a few rough patches that I'd like to see them iron out to get the full 5* luxury experience down to a science!! First, since this resort was previously owned by Mandarin Oriental, it has the potential to be an amazing resort. However, if you are looking for a BEACHFRONT resort, this is NOT the one for you. The beach itself is stunning, clear water.... just amazing. But the accommodations are NOT oceanfront or even oceanVIEW. However, the resort makes up for this in the fact that their rooms (all suites) are enormous, comfortable, and are very well appointed. Honestly, the suites make you so comfortable that you really don't care if you ever leave your room. Especially if you have a room with a true plunge pool. Which brings me to my next topic... the plunge pools. Use caution when booking your rooms, as they consider what to me is an "outdoor soaking tub" to be a "plunge pool". If this is an important feature to you, make sure you are getting an actual "plunge pool" or you will be disappointed with the soaking tub! The grounds of the resort are immaculate. The food is excellent- I did not have a single bad dining experience. Note that this resort is smaller (only about 120 rooms) so they have two restaurants, both of which are a la carte. The spa has a wonderful water circuit with steam room and showers and sauna, and also a quiet pool outdoors with staff who can bring you water, chlorophyll water, and iced tea. The spa staff was not quite as polite or polished as I have seen at other luxury resorts, which can be a disappointment if you are used to a 5* spa experience. I think this is something they will work out with their spa staff over time. All in all, I truly enjoyed this trip to the Blue Diamond. I think it has the potential to be an outstanding and true luxury five star resort once they iron out a few minor issues I look forward to going back and being able to give a perfect review next time!!!

Room Tip: Even the entry level room category is amazing!

Beautiful grounds, great and friendly service, nice beach, plenty of room, great rooms (we had the base room and it was incredible), top mini bar, bathrooms were ridiculously nice, best turndown service, yoga and the spa was one of the beat i have been to, great breakfast and after one bland meal (which was replaced and apologised for) the rest was great- aquamarine was the go. Menu changed daily for lunch and dinner seafood was always fresh. great selection of food. Service went above and beyond and nothing was too much trouble. Big deal of you had to point at a meal or drink - the 'price' you pay for having variety and a well stocked and extensive bar.

Would go back in a second!
