a Couple in their 30's, without kids, from CANADA. Budget but not backpack budget....

We've stayed here 2 years in a row. Friendly staff, nice clean rooms, nothing fancy, but jungle like walkways and atmosphere, in ground pool, tropical decoration, cool circular stair case going up to the floors.

The price is right 40-60$/room (palapas). Hot water, Celling Fan, a little towel animal on your bed... you can bring you coffee mugs from the restaurant to your room! 2 streets from the beach.. pretty quiet, the weekend the music from around the area, bars etc...can get a little noisy, but not too hectic....dogs barking, drunks drunkin' and that rooster in the morning (i mean 3 am in the morning) .. though I think they ate it, cause the 2nd year, there was no more rooster.
Also, you can go on the roof, its a bit sketchy but what a cool view...we would go there for our morning coffee or our last drink of the evening..a couple cats hang about...with geckos in their mouths... we have yet to see the famous Tucan !!?? I don't think there are any!
All and all, a very COOL place in the heart of the tropics!

Staff speak english very well, and the girls at the restaurant are very helpful and friendly.

Just walk outside, go up the street to the next street (15th)? on the corner (1.3 seconds away) , there's a great little taco el pastor place...they're like 50 cents each!
For more upscale but FANTASTIC, down to 5th just before the main drag:
RESTAURANT CARBONCITOS !!! ( we ate there like 6 times in 2 weeks...tried everything!)
SOPA AZTECA !!!!!! DROOOOLLLLL!

Room Tip: A bunch of rooms and palapas style rooms. If you don't like a room, just mention it! They'...

This hotel is perfect, but don't expect anything fancy!
We had a room with 3 beds in 2 separate rooms and 1 bathroom... We also had a kitchenette but never used it...
Its really basic, there are fans but no AC which could be an issue for some but the evenings cooled down enough to have a good night rest...
Its 2 blocks from the beach and 1 to 5th ave, many bars and shops...
The hotel's pool is amazing especially after a long day on the beach...
So for what we paid this was value for money, as long as a place is safe and clean I have no worries...

One thing:
It would have been great if they had printing facilities or at least open to the idea of printing things for guests from the office (at a cost of course...)
We had to print our boarding passes and it was an issue for the office to do it!....

Just one avenue away from 5 av, this hotel is close many restaurants and bars but it's not too close to their noise. I stayed in a colorful cabana, which was nicely decorated, clean, and comfortable. It had mosquito nets, a front porch with a colorful hammock and a lovely swimming pool right in front. Wifi is included. I couldn't ask for more for $50 per night.

It was good but when you have diarrhea, it's inconvenient to have to walk down two flights of stairs to get to a bathroom (if you go for the shared bathroom option). Also, my husband had to pee in the middle of the night and after walking back up 2 flight of stairs, he was so wide awake it took him another 4 hours to fall asleep again. The location is great--just a block and a half from 5th ave and all the people and shops and restaurants. The pasta in the cafe here was very bland (hope that's not what gave us diarrhea).

The staff is friendly and oh so helpful. Nicole at the front desk can help you with tours or airport transfers Only 1 1/2 blks from the beach. AVOID Isis car rental that is on the property. The rental rate states that insurance is included in the price, yet both of our credit cards had $400 hold on them that did not fall off until after we returned leaving us strapped for cash our last two days there.

Room Tip: You have to ask for an air conditioned room.

stayed here on 2 occasions in 2 room types - the poolside cabana was a treat with the artwork and troppo theme but the standard room was easier to keep clean and insect free. I enjoyed both and loved the towel artwork always makes you feel special , the restaurant had great coffee and traditional breakfasts were yum. I travelled solo and felt very secure and the walk to the nightlife was well lit and close enough without being on the doorstep.
The staff were so helpful giving help with luggage storage and next travel steps.
I was always welcomed and made to feel at home when I walked in and out to explore etc

Room Tip: ground floor rooms are cooler and feel more like in a jungle.

Family witht wo adults, two kids 8 and 10 yrsold, been at Casa Tucan two nights in early may. We had been in Playa years ago for our honeymoon and at that time we stayed in an all inclusive, now we came back for a break and looked for something cheaper, easygoing, but with good wifi, clean, room enough for all our luggage and with a cozy atmosphere: well, Casa Tucan simply had it all, absolutely!
Warm welcome, delicious tropical garden with a nice swimming pool which our kids enjoyed so much, good wifi, excellent location as it's just 100 mtrs from the main street and wide choice of restaurants, juice bars, cafes just outside the door, colorful and fun architecture of the overall establishment which makes the place very special.
We payed 600pesos for a very large room with two king size beds, a very large bathroom with an awesome shower box ( loved the high pressure of the shower tap), just outside the swimming pool.
We had been searching before by visiting few other places in the vicinity, I challenge anyone to find a better money for value hotel in this area: if I'll be back in Playa I know where it's the place to be, it's Casa Tucan

Room Tip: Families would probably prefer one of the rooms at the lower floor, so kids can go in and out of the...
