We arrived at the hotel for our Garden View Jr Suite and were placed in a Street side room. No view of any Garden or the Ocean. We complained at the office and were told we needed to call our Travel Agent. We asked to use the phone (no phone in the rooms) They said NO. After looking for 45 min. for a working phone, We called our Agent and were told the hotel hade to help us and there was no refund. We stayed 7 nights and delt with the moldy smell, the lack of hot water, the rust and dirt, and noise from the street. The AC worked great. our total bill for the room was $995.00. We will not be returning.

We stayed at the Blue Beach and found it good for the price. We had 4 couples and had each room category covered. The beachfront bugalow ground floor was very convenient to the beach but has zero privacy. The security guard pretty much sat on the front porch all night so you were definitely safe but since there is no a/c you had to have windows open so no privacy. The 2nd floor bungalows were very interesting and rustic but with multiple porches and views...but lots of insects as the roof was bare palapa. The basic room with a/c was a great bargain..thats it. Cold a/c, hot water, cable tv and locks on the door. The junior suite was the same but with a living room. Had no problems with noise or bad smells but we are an easy group. A decent value with a nice staff.

This was my third trip to Playa, and I have stayed at the Blue Beach Hotel all three times. Overall I was very satisfied with my stay. The hotel is not a extremely fancy place like one of those resort hotels. It's smaller and more down to earth (just like Playa). The hotel is on the beach but close enough to walk to the shops and restaurants. My room was extremely clean. There was a safe in the room for my valuables and a security guard posted outside. I stayed in a junior suite, which has a private balcony that was perfect for lounging and smoking Cuban cigars. I would recommend Blue Beach to any traveler.

A friend and I stayed in a beachfront cabana at blue beach last february. it was just what we expected - not the lap of luxury, but if you are a beach lover, it's perfect as the bungalow is RIGHT ON THE BEACH. It is located next to the coolest nightspot, blue parrot, as well as hot spot Om. the room itself was a nice size, and the bathroom was clean and decorated with great mexican flair. There was no air-conditioning, only a ceiling fan, but it was fine because there was a cool breeze coming in from the ocean. the beds were comfortable, but i dont think the sheets were changed on a nightly basis.

we were awakened every morning by people taking beach chairs (chairs are available on a first come first serve basis, even though they left much to be desired) and talking, and were often bothered by this. on a more positive note, even though blue parrot was around the corner, at night the bungalow was as quiet as can be. we slept very well and could hear the ocean - very tranquil.

the part of the beach where this hotel is located is nice, but not the best part of the beach. the water is full of boats and the sand isn't perfect. however, you can get corona's/margs/food delivered right to your chair by the little beach bar nearby which was very convenient. INSIDER TIP: everyday around 5pm a corona truck would pull up near the little restaurant and you could buy a case for $20 US. once we stocked up the fridge, we were good to go for a while.

overall, i would say DEFINITELY stay at blue beach if you are in a beachfront cabana. otherwise, not highly recommended. we had friends staying off of the beach and complained of a terrible view and noise. also, we decided to extend our stay and were brought to a room located in what looked like the mohavi desert and saw a roach the size of a dinosaur... needless to say, we moved ASAP.

We were concerned after reading some of the reviews and rightly so. We had a room on the ground level just a few yards from the beach. We only were there for 3 nights, so we could live with it. We would have certainly complained if it was for longer than 3 nights.

Pros: close to beach and to 5th ave with great restaurants. The housekeeping staff is VERY nice and we tipped her well. I kind of felt sorry for her working in such a squalid environment. The housekeeper did clean as well as she could and left the towels on the bed in the shape of a swan or a dog.

cons: mold/ mildew smell overpowering. Black mold around the sink, fan squeaked constantly. We forgot our travel alarm and there isn't a phone for wake up calls, or a clock radio. Be prepared for bare-bones at this place. No iron, blow-dryer. Just a tv and a safe deposit box. The other reviews are right on- fishing boats in front of the hotel, and LOTS of kelp. BUT......if you walked a bit further down the beach- wonderful.

We didn't complain, so I'm not sure if the problem would have been rectified if we did. The good news is we only slept here and spent most of our time on the beach. Rustic I can handle- this place is a dump. The pictures are not representative of the real deal. We kind of looked at it like we do when we go to Vegas- never in the room, so not that big of a deal. We did save some pesos staying here, but all in all, not that impressed.

We just spent a week in the house at Blue Beach, Playa del Carmen, Mexico and will have to say it was one of the BEST vacations we have ever had. The house is located right on the beach and so convenient to restaurants and shopping. We didn't rent a car, so everything was within walking distance. The house is so nice, very spacious and private. We went with 2 other couples and everyone had plenty of room. The people at Blue Beach are very nice and so helpful. You might want to pack some washclothes, because there are none, but everything else is provided. But be sure you don't overpack your bags if you are flying on Frontier airlines because you will be charged $50 for overweight bags, and that info is not readily available to you when booking your flight online. I had to call the airline after we returned to find out where that info is, and it is quite a task to find it. But the stay at Blue Beach made up for the rest of the trip!! If you would like anymore info, please feel free to email me. I found out a lot of info thru a previous guest at Blue Beach.

Just returned from a week at the Blue Beach Hotel with my family (2 adults, 2 kids, 12 & 16). I booked it after reading mostly positive reviews here. We were disappointed with our stay, and would have moved to another hotel, but spring break is busy!
We can tolerate "rustic" but our room (master suite) would be better classified as "run down".
Pros: Great location on the beach, easy walking distance to 5th Ave with all the shops and restaurants.
Cons: Our room was 1st floor, street side. It was noisy location at night, with quite a bit of car and foot traffic. We asked to be moved, but no other rooms were available. Parties going above us two nights-- Although they didn't go past 12:30 or so.
(We tend to run and beach it during the day and want to relax at night)
Window lock broken--made us nervous as we were on the ground floor. One tv not working at all.
Toilet leaked continually. Bad mildew throughout, especially in the bathrooms-yes, I know it's damp there, but some upkeep is needed. Kitchenette not really usable. Frig rusty but worked.
One of our room keys disappeared early in the week, which we reported.
One swimming suit missing from our room. At check out we were charged for the "missing" room key. Got home and found it inside a suitcase, on top of the contents.
If you go, use the lock boxes in the room, and definitely request an upper floor room away from the street.
I did not see any of the other rooms at the Blue Beach--maybe some were in better condition than the one we stayed in. We'll try somewhere else next time.
