First time to a RIU resort and can't wait to try a few more. Gorgeous. Great beach. Wonderful drinks. Very friendly staff. Excellent room and extras!!! The only thing keeping me from marking 5 stars was our room needed a dehumidifier as it felt damp until the last night but others in our group did not have this issue. I'm sure if we would've complained they would've moved us but it wasn't that big of a deal. The 24 hour lounge was a great touch as they had appetizers, fruit, drinks, etc. anytime you wanted changing service every 4 hours!! Only a $7 taxi ride to 5th Ave shopping where they have everything you'd want and just a 5 min walk across the street to do some shopping if you don't want to go to 5th Ave. Great 'disco' also across the road in one of the other RIU resorts that was popular!!

them, all over (even on the beach!): service and help is always close by. When you call upon them, they are friendly and cheerful. As well, the staff know what they're doing: cooks, waiters, barkeeps, concierges, cleaners - all are competent and efficient. Guests feel valued, all the time. It's quite a nice feeling.

There are many other reasons to celebrate this resort. Food, for example. The main buffet produces a wide variety of dishes; all I tried were of high quality, nicely presented. We ate at all five specialty restaurants; there's a bit of bureaucracy to get reservations, but the food is worth it. No complaints - at all - about the food. The booze and wine available is another reason this is a high quality place: I saw several premium brands among the liquors and - mirabile dictu! - the wines were quite pleasant and in any case completely drinkable.

The grounds are attractive and stately though in places, perhaps, a bit formal: all those green lawns are not really made for walking. The pools are attractive and clean. A busy bar - though it's always possible to get a seat -serves the pools and provides a serene view of the palms, beach and ocean below. The beach has many palms for shade; there are more than enough chairs. The hotel and the beach face (more or less) East. Sunrise and early morning are special, though the late afternoon colour contrasts are quite striking.

Speaking of colours, I suppose every hotel is entitled to its eccentricities. Purple and pink are the colour themes in the lobby, and in the rooms. It's not an unattractive colour scheme, but it seemed to me to be a little peculiar. Speaking of peculiar, the room layout is unconventional and perhaps unsettling in one respect. No wall - let alone a door - separates the sleeping area from the bathing area. So you can lie in bed and watch your room mate wash and brush their teeth. For those of more tender sensibilities, there is a curtain to provide some privacy. Most will be relieved to know the spirit of hygenic openness does not extend to the toilet or the shower, both of which have doors which close. The rooms are modern and comfortable, although some design could be improved; I don't think, for example, that anyone is actually intended to sit on the couch.

Those visiting should be aware that this is a smaller hotel, and entertainment is on a smaller scale. We actually did not stay up for the later evening shows, but there was something every night. But the ‘bar bands’ after dinner were enjoyable, with lots of danceable tunes. Those who want more youthful entertainment have access to the disco in the Riu across the street. One thing we very much enjoyed was the relative quiet around the pools; although there were some activities with music, the hotel did not feel the need to pound guests with loud music from dawn to dusk.

Any of our less positive observations represent relatively small things, compared to the high quality of the whole experience. This resort sells at a ‘premium’ price point compared to most nearby Riu Resorts. Is the extra worth it? No question. Would we come back? Absolutely.

We got to and from the resort via Sunwing. The airline and staff were competent and friendly, the seats and services well maintained. Although why there was only one drink service on a four hour return flight I don’t know: seems a bit lazy to me – even water would have been fine. The Sunwing staff on the ground in Mexico are another thing altogether. Those folks seem to value income far more than service. During the trip, Sunwing staff took pains to warn us against those aggressively selling time shares or unlicensed private transportation. But that didn't stop other Sunwing staff from soliciting tips for the bus ride - even though the trip is supposed to be 'all-inclusive'. Nor did it justify the positively surly reaction of Sunwing hotel staff if you didn't attend their aggressive marketing of Sunwing ground excursions.

Hotel - 5 star. Sunwing ground staff - 1/2 star.

Room Tip: The second and third floors are preferable to the first. You might also ask not to be place too clo...

Room - We were VERY pleased with our room. It was very fancy, up-to-date, and clean. The only thing that would have made it more accommodating would be privacy in the bathroom. It is all an open area, so there is not much privacy. Overall, it was more of a suite than a "regular" room. We enjoyed the towel animals daily and the chef's snacks that were brought to the room when we arrived and departed. The fully stocked bar was an added bonus!

Dining - It was very nice to have food available all hours of the day. The guacamole restaurant was convenient and had many options. LOVED the little cupcake/coffee shop! Their chocolate strawberries were yummy. :) The buffet of food on the beach was handy to have if you didn't want to leave the beach area. The Mexican and Italian restaurants were delicious options for nice dinners in the evening. The Steakhouse was also an excellent choice (highly recommend their rib eye). Overall, there were many choices for food - lobster, filet mignon, fish, grilled chicken... My sister is a very picky eater, and she did not have any trouble finding food that she liked. Drinks were delicious. Very good bartenders. There was always someone walking around on the beach ready to serve you a drink. That was handy. The "fruit" carvings were also a nice decoration at dinner. We were not aware of this ahead of time, but you have to make a reservation for dinner at 8:00 a.m. This is an inconvenience as you have to completely plan your morning around this. It would be more convenient when you first check-in to the resort to plan your dinners every evening.

Entertainment - The resort entertainment team was so fun and outgoing! We really enjoyed talking to all of them and interacting with them through the different games and activities. Water aerobics, stretching, rifle shooting, dancing, and beach volleyball were some of our favorites. Francisco, Cindy, Ivan, and Enrique were all very fun to be around. Amiel (sp?) was a friendly bartender.

The hotel staff was very helpful and welcoming. The front desk staff always had timely answers to our questions.

The resort was always immaculate. Everything was so nice and well-kept. The resort was always decorated very nicely each night. The landscaping is gorgeous.

Pools were very clean and nice. The swim up bar is awesome!

We would recommend any of the other Riu's as well. We visited the nearby resorts, and they are very nice too. However, the Riu Palace was our favorite.

We will definitely return to this resort. We did not want to leave! We had a BLAST! :)

Room Tip: We did not have a problem with noise. We did not have a very nice view out of our balcony, though...

My husband and i came here for 10 nights....and we were given a room with 2 twin beds even though they knew we are married. I've asked the front desk to switch us for King bed room but they asked me to come back next morning to check the system.....each morning was the same story so we just eventually gave up and stayed in the original room and slept on that one twin bed with my hubby the whole 10 nights.

The food was great!!! We ate at all the a la cart options and liked every single one of them except for the Japanese one. The sushi tasted weird for some odd reason.

The best part was the beach!!! Love the sand and the ocean, we roasted on the beach daily from morning till late afternoons. LOL We also like the bar staff at the beach, they were always attention and remember our drinks. At night there are shows, some were cheesy and some were good. There are also a few plazas you can walk to outside of the resort for a little shopping, and you can also take a short cab ride to 5th Ave in PDC for $7 bucks. We did a few shopping trips there and had fun on all those 3 days.

Most hotel staff here are very nice, and we always ensure to tip those who stands out with their heart warming service.

Room Tip: Get a room on the higher floor for better view

We just came back yesterday from a week at the Riu Palace Mexico. We had a fabulous week there. We mainly used the restaurant Don Julian for Breakfast and dinner and not bothered with the a la carte restaurant where you have to book. For lunch we used the Barbecue on the beach or Guacamole restaurant. The food selection is great in all areas. We had Lobster twice during the week and and on another occassion we had spiney lobster. There is a 24 hour lounge where you can get food at all time. The waiters do come round with large trays of drinks selections for you throughout the day on the beach or you can go to the pool bar and order, as well as the other bars in the evening. The room are large, clean and comfortable, with an all inclusive mini bar for your use. We would like to give Special Thanks to Edward and Angel and the rest of the staff who made our time so special.
I would recommend the Riu Palace mexico to my friends and Family

Room Tip: Chose first or second floor room, nearest to the sea as possible

Literally revisited: here again after a year. Oh man, it is really nice here, really good value for our money and time - otherwise we would not have returned to this hotel. Now we can judge it comparing to a most meaningful benchmark: the sea-resort hotel of same category of the world-renowned Iberostar, and here the stay is much more enjoyable. Of course it is a subjec-tive opinion, but we definitely feel that at Riu Palace Mexico the whole personnel, from the top management to the black-cad workers of gardeners and repairmen, do care for our best possible well-being here, do their really best for us. And everybody is friendly, quick to smile and to be of assistance if you ask for something.

The place, its construction and interior-design is, of course, the same, and is, in some aspects, a collection of examples for would-be architects and designers as to what not to do. Nothing really bad for us guests, however, it is only surprising how designers’ ambition could conquer reason and ergonomics.

What really has importance, is that the place has kept its best, and really outstandingly good feature: the impeccably good performance of its personnel. It can well be felt that the local management runs it with meticulous care to all details. Reception desk’s staff is good, kind and quick to help. They really do everything within their power and possibilities in order to make your stay pleasant and solve your eventual problems related to it. Waiters in the restau-rants and bars are perfectly good, too, well-mannered, helpful, friendly, always at hand if the guest needs them. They have an aura of performing their tasks with gusto. Similarly good are, in their roles and ways, all the file and rank. A special feature is that large part of the person-nel is Maya - very pleasant, likeable people.

There seems to be only three tasks they are not able to perform for you: 1) stop the occasional rain, 2) dissolve clouds, 3) stop the shouting bedlam Americans often raise here, like at every similar place.

Suites are really correct – those giving onto the inner park and garden provide beautiful view from the balcony. The most important features: cleaning of the suite is good and daily, the beds always clean, the shower cabin nice large. A surprising feautures is that the room and the part for bathroom functions are not really separated – toilet, of course, is! -, and between them there is a comfortable jacuzzi. If you do not want to have a private peep-show, there are rooms where a curtain performs the optical separation. And if you do not like in bed the “sway with me…” exercise, better ask for room with twin beds.

In the all-inclusive catering, the food is really plentiful, its quality is mostly good, sometimes very good, the choice is fairly good. Drinks are as usual. The so-called thematic restaurants - Mexican, Japanese, Italian, Gourmet, Steakhouse - are cosy and elegant at the same time, but the choice is always the same. All of them are free of charge for the all-inclusive guests, but their capacity is rather small, thus one has to ask for tickets. These can be had only for the same evening. Counter opens at 8 a.m. and tickets may go very quickly.

Pool country is nice, absolutely well-kept, always clean, not too crowded, one can always find place. Sunbeds comfortable, waiters circulate regularly taking orders for drinks. There is a two-sided bar: one side is conventional, the other serves people in the pool’s water.

Part of the package was the flight with Condor Airlines. Their slogan is “Born to fly”, but, unfortunately, it seems that never on schedule. German reliability, in this aspect, is past per-fect already, which makes the long, boring flight even more unpleasant.

Do people really live like this? This is so beautiful, and the staff if so helpful, that I feel like I am in a different world. Check in was a breeze, with a couple of fruity drinks to make it better. The rooms are what they have said. Just bring a couple of air fresheners with you. I traveled with my Mom and we made it work. No need to worry. Beautiful room right across from the theater, and this was nice since we had good music to fall asleep to. The food was amazing, breakfast, and dinner at the buffet. Amazing presentation and taste was wonderful. You barely got the last bite in your mouth, and they were coming to pick up your dirty plate. They went so far as to refill your glass with the Diet Pepsi sitting on your table. There is a lot of walking. Long walk out to the pools and beach, but what a great scene when there! Never went into the pools, I'm more of a beach person. The beach is so wonderful with no rocks, shells, seaweed, or anything else that may make it difficult to get to the water. Water is warm, one little tip, pay attention to the flag by the lifeguard. If it is red, go in with a strong swimmer. Sunbeds plentiful. Lots of "towel game", but with just 2 of us, we could find them together. Great Bar-B Q by the beach every day. Always a drink to be had with a waiter coming around with a tray of them all the time, as is the case everywhere. Tulum is a must, although a lot of walking here, too. Very interesting, with knowledgeable tour guides. No complaints here, since we missed an 18 inch snow storm at home while gone. Would love to come back!

Room Tip: People have complained about the rooms across from the theater, but they were nice with great music...
