My husband and I took a long, overdue couple's vacation. The Riu Palace Mexico was absolutely the perfect place to reconnect. We had a very clean room with staff that continually restocked our fridge, linens, and gave us privacy when requested. The restaurants had food choices from around the globe. One could only go hungry by choice as there was so much to choose from. The service provided was superb. An empty plate was removed quickly and beverages were refilled in moments...even in the buffet restaurants. Bar and lounge service was also great. The staff rotated between bars and restaurants and remembered guests and their preferences from one place to the next. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. So much of the staff throughout the resort was multilingual making it fun for everyone. Although we chose to leave our children at home this time, there were families vacationing as well. The activities staff had plenty of fun activities for the adults as well as the children. The night entertainment was fun too. We took a little time to check out the other Riu properties in the area and found them to offer similar amenities. We did use the Wi-Fi included in the price which would have been an additional charge at some resorts. The beach area was well maintained as were the pools and manicured grounds. All-in-all, we enjoyed a wonderful time at this hotel/resort. We are ready to go back again next year!

Recently returned from a great stay at the Riu Palace Mexico, Playa del Carmen. We have stayed at a number of Riu Palace properties before and always felt they were a solid value for your money. Friendly staff, always clean, good food and great locations. Our stay at the Palace Mexico was far above any expectations we had. The Hotel has been recently renovated to I guess what some might call a more modern or eclectic look(?).... We did not find it offensive at all, it really works. We had a Jr. Ste Courtyard view pretty much in the center of the property w easy access to restaurants/beach and everything in between. Our room was great, first floor, spacious balcony and no noise from above. The cleaning staff did a great job everyday and if you need anything at all you had only to ask. We had turndown service on 5 of our 7 nights. The grounds are impeccably kept and groomed. There are several pools all beautiful. There pool bar area is very large w a number of in pool sitting areas w tables! Not your usual crowded noisy, don't want to linger area as in some places... There are plenty of lounges around the pool and under shaded palms on the beach. The hotel was near capacity but finding a chair or lounge was never a problem. The beach at Playa is spectacular...turquoise water and walk in warm too! You can walk to town on the beach in about 20-25 minutes. We spent most of our time on the beach and ended our days w delicious cappucino at the pool bar (dry side) . I could go on about the people at this resort, but there are simply not enough words... they have a fantastic staff at this resort, all committed to your enjoyment. It shows in everything they do every day. They work long, long hours but they will always greet you with a warm and sincere smile. We saw this in the entertainment staff , housekeeping, front desk and especially at the restaurants. About the restaurants...best Riu food ever. We atre at the Buffet s as well as the Steakhouse, Gourmet, and Italian.. Never a disappointing meal. We are well travelled and have stayed in more expensive locations. The food at this Riu rivaled the best we have had elsewhere for more money. Freshness and presentation at the Buffets was amazing. There is no way you could not find something you will enjoy. After 1 day our waiter for breakfast and lunch,Abraham, knew our seating and bevarage preferences and greeted us by name every day. Even at the buffet for breakfast and lunch he made us feel as if we had a personal waiter. WE actually met the Executive chef of the Hotel, he was present in the buffet restaurants almost every day, carefully watching and making sure all was as it should be. The level of ownership by the management and staff of this hotel is obvious and I think that is what distiguished it from the other Rius we have stayed at in our mind . Rius do a great job, always a good value...but this place is at another level, and it has to be the people. THE BEST PART of all is that now all the restaurants are non-smoking! Even the outside venues as well. WE have always been compelled to dine inside , afraid the next table would be lingering smokers. That won't happen here. There are plenty of places for smokers to do their thing, just not where people/families are eating! Great move by Riu, hope it is universal! If I were to suggest one improvement it would be for the Hotel to add another restroom for ladies by the Dive shop. It is a bit of a walk to the one by pool and when busy, ladies may have a wait. The dive shop is closer to the beach and would add incredible, needed convenience. Bottom line if you try this Riu first, you will hold any others to a very high standard.

Room Tip: Spend a few dollars more for the Jr. ste coutyard. Beautiful grounds and fountain views worth the small upcharge per day. At the Gourmet restaurant try the Red Snapper entree...deleicious. Also the leek soup w Shrimp is the best choice appetizer! I had Ribs at the steakhouse,( say hi to Carlos the manager there!) plenty and delicious. My wife loved tthe Grouper entree at the Italian.

This is probably one of the best resorts I have stayed in. I was not sure about staying at an All Inclusive resort as in Europe they are not great. Arrived at the Riu Palace and got a lovely room, but most of all the food was great. Lots of variety, different choices in the a la carte restaurants too. Did not get bored of the food during my 2 week stay.
The best of of staying here is the staff, the staff are excellent, very friendly and service minded. Overal 10 out of 10 and would come back again.

Room Tip: Try for a high floor to get a nice view of the hotel.

Family took a trip here back in June of 2013. Trip of a lifetime, very nice and helpful staff. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the make reservation restaurants Steak house was awesome,(should have ate there every night, but we wanted to try them all), all the others where good, not great! Buffet Daily was good, get the fruit tarts at the buffet or anytime at the pastry bar. Unless you like extremely hot weather, go in December thru February. Humidity very high when we went and locals said July through September even worse, couldn't imagine being anymore humid. Be sure to go to Xcaret park, lots of things to do here. Swim with dolphins here f you can. Last but not least get a snorkel excursion of the coral reef near Puerto Morelos, nice shallow snorkeling, get one f the tours that have a spinnaker swing on it, you'll know why when you ride it!

Room Tip: They only have 8 rooms with private outdoor jacuzzi tub, get it if you can. Lay in the tub at night and see the island of Cozumel from the highest point of the hotel, while laying in the jacuzzi. Also stay in a room with balcony overlooking the resorts not the back.

Fantastic all around. Hotel is very clean and luxiourious. Jr garden suite was clean and very comfortable. Shower is large and very pleasing. Pools are nice and spacious. Plenty of beach and pool chairs available. Beach is amazing super soft sand, enough shade trees for when the sun is at its hotest. Food was the best food from any all inclusive I have ever been too. Variety and super fresh for once I actually enjoyed the food at the buffets as well as the specialty restaurants. Staff was very nice and pleasant. Great time had by our group.

Room Tip: We had a room that faced another property, not the best view, but ok.
