my partner and i stayed here for 2 weeks in march and i have to say i just cannot fault the place. from the moment we landed we were greeted by friendly helpful people. on the way to the hotel we had a fantastic guide called juan carlos who gave us all the info we needed and was so friendly and helpful. on arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a yummy fruity cocktail and straight away felt like we were in heaven. our bags were taken to our room for us while we were given our keys and info about the hotel. everything was so relaxed and the staff just couldnt do enough for us. we noticed in our room that the bar optics had 2 vodkas which we dont really drink so we asked if we could have rum brought up instead expecting it to arrive the next morning but no sooner had we asked and got back to our room one of the staff was there with our rum! how fab! our room was lovely and was kept to a high standard everyday. we left little notes and tips everyday to show our appreciation. the waiters were always cheerful, especially luiz who always offered us tequila with breakfast! the food....oh my goodness where do i start! it was just fabulous! themed evenings, 3 ala carte restaurants, all stunning. i was in heaven. the only thing we didnt enjoy was the baked beans but we didnt miss them. there was so much variety and the food was all so fresh and delicious. we worked our way through the cocktail list and had a few that werent on the menu! shout out to freddie at kiosko who took great delight in showering us with boom booms! try the mango daiquiris, divine!! the pool was lush and never too busy and the animation team we unbeatable. they created such a good atmosphere and really did such a good job! manuel, mike, daniel and joshua are all hilarious and such fun to be around! all in all we found this hotel was perfect and we cannot wait to go back. this was our first holiday together and it couldnt have been any better. we love the tequila and are counting down the days until our next visit :-)

Flew out with Thomson on 26th May for 2 week stay with my husband. I was pleasantly surprised that the back seat tv screen also had games as well as films and tv series. It helped pass the time playing Who wants to be a Millionaire and Bejewelled, also you can choose from albums such as The Beatles and Pink Floyd to listen to through the free headphones provided.

It was quite quick through Cancun airport although have a pen handy as you have to fill in another form before you go through customs.

Coach journey to the hotel was approx. 45 mins.

On arriving at the hotel we were given a welcome drink and our cases were taken to our room. We were give a key and directions to our room. The room was very clean but seemed gloomy, due to the dark wood furniture, dark bed covers and yellow painted walls, it could do with a freshen up. The beds are huge and comfortable. Our cleaner Antonia cleaned to a very high standard and always left a different form of towel art each day - Thank you Antonia! x

The hotel is set in a jungle - the coatis which roam around are so cute and seem quite tame, (I wanted to bring one home with me!) although we did see one jump up to a table where someone was sitting eating a sandwich and grab the sandwich off the table! I thought is was amusing! You will also see Iguanas sunning themselves around the hotel.

The weather was really bad for approx. 6 days out of the 14, so we did not do any of the trips, the pirate boat trip was twice cancelled because of the weather.

The food was really good in the main buffet restaurant, there is something for everyone. One night I had roast turkey with cranberry sauce, roast potatoes and broccoli - home from home. There is lots of choice, Spring Rolls, Mexican, Salads. The omelettes or fried eggs and toast for breakfast set us up for the day.We booked for the Steakhouse which was a lovely 3 course meal, you are also asked how you would like your steak cooked and the service was excellent. You can book the Al a carte restaurants in the morning outside the main restaurant and I would recommend the Steakhouse.

Cocktails are fabulous, the best all inclusive cocktails I have had were in Cuba, these were just as good. Try a Top Secret or Miami Vice. These are not on the cocktail list but the staff will make them for you. The bar staff (as all the staff) work very hard and are always smiling.

The Sports Bar is open 24 hours, you can grab a sandwich, fruit and salad which are all dated and kept in a fridge, and nachos with cheese sauce if you are feeling peckish. The Sports Bar also has Air Con for you to cool down.

The animation team put on some really good professional shows. Mama Mia sounded good but we did not get to see it as the rain and wind this night was really bad, we had to stand under cover at the bar. Try to catch Grease and The Vegas Show in which they brought in an Elvis Presley impersonator who was really good. The Michael Jackson show was on at the sister hotel one night, but again, due to the rain we did not walk over.

If you like to stay around the pool you need to get up early, there are not many sunbeds out of the shade. There is a swim-up bar were you literally have to swim or walk across the pool to reach it. It would be preferable if the bar extended onto the patio area so you could get a drink without getting wet, it would be nice to have that choice. We preferred the beach where you can always find a sunbed no matter what time you go. The beach is across the road and under a covered walkway, it takes approx 10 mins to walk, or there is a buggy which runs from the hotel every 10 mins or so. The burgers and barbequed ribs on the beach at the temporary bar/food area were really good (this was due to the Yucatan being refurbished)

Fifth Avenue is 25 - 30 mins walk from the hotel, come out of the hotel and turn left, it is a straight walk. Halfway down on the opposite side to the hotel is a bar with beautiful parrots sitting on perches which I took photos of. We often walked into Fifth Avenue where I bought perfume from the Duty Free shops where there is lots of choice. We always went to a bar (although I cant remember the name there is a lady outside asking you to look at the menu and come in for a drink) you get 5 bottles of Sol and a plate of nachos with melted cheese for 160 pesos- well worth the money. However if they ask you if you are ready for your Tequila, be aware you will be charged for it, they make it sound as if it is free. There is another bar a little further on called the Tequila Barrel this has a good atmosphere and is170 pesos for 5 bottles of Corona - but you do not get the Nachos. We walked to Fifth Avenue on the road and back along the beach when the weather was good.

There is lots of different Tequilas in the big supermarkets and they let you try it before you buy.

On the beach at Fifth Avenue you can get the ferry across to Cozumel for approx 360 pesos, it takes about 40 mins.

We found it easier to take Pesos rather than Dollars, although in most of the shops things were priced in dollars you only had to ask and they would work it out for you.

Despite the weather we had a lovely holiday and hope to return next year.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3009 which was next to the pool and not too far from Reception/bar area. The highe...

I was really looking forward to going to to this hotel after reading all the reviews on it. Boy was i dissapointed. The room smelled of damp. The staff at the pool were only interested in seving the americans cuse they were giving big tips dont get me wrong give me good service and i will tip. The place looks tired in need of a revamp. Jacuzzi bubbling where it shouldn't be.There is work going on over the road at the yucatan but this did not bother us. The beach is beautiful and the staff would walk round with trays of drinks for everyone so this is good. We ate at the steakhouse which was great the first time second time was not so good so if you book go for earlier sittin. Food in the main resturant always something to choose from just get your own drinks it quicker. Walk to fith avenue takes bout 30-45 mins lovely walk, when you get there its abit like blackpool loads of shops all with the same things and shop keepers pestering you to go in their shop. We pefered the shops at playacar nice to stroll around and no pestering. you can use the riu playacar if you want for breakfast and lunch and their pool and beach nice hotel. For what i paid i could have gone to the sensortori in egypt whih i wished i had.

Spent just one week here in Mexico at the tequila at the beginning of June. I don't usually leave reviews for hotels but I felt the service here was so spot on that I had to. The hotel itself is in a quiet location surrounded by jungle. The pool is a decent size with a swim up bar, and sun loungers inside the pool if you want to go all out :-) the staff are so polite and always greeting you as you pas by. You are never without a drink and there was always a good choice of food each night. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard and the towel art was a lovely touch left by the cleaners. There is so much to do here and so many trips so really one week isn't long enough. We would love to go back again next year to the same hotel! As a couple we loved this relaxing holiday but we loved that thee was also the opportunity to do so much if you wanted to. The beach was just a short walk away down a private walk way which you could also take the free buggy- we found this useful on the very hot days. The hotel yucatan was being refurbished so the facilities for drinks were not in use at this time just a small temp bar offering a selection of food also. I've seen a lot of moaning about this but for us this wasn't a problem at all - the noise people are complaining about on the beach is not as drastic as people have said. Once your relaxed and looking at the beautiful views you completely forget it!! All in all a fantastic holiday and wish I was back already!!!

Speaking from experience, previously twice to Tequila and twice to the Yucatan, as usual we had great time overall, excellent accomodation, superb staff and very varied meal choices at the buffet restaurant, that is, if you do not wish to choose to dine at the Mexican, Asian or Steakhouse a large carte restaurants.
There was one major problem, during the evening meals at the buffet restaurant, the humidity and temperature was excessive, I'm talking soaking wet shirt every time; this was in spite of the almost 100 fans, we were told by the staff who were exposed to the conditions for longer periods, especially in the kitchens, that it was an experiment by management. I did complain to the restaurant managers, who directed me to the reception; there response was to note the fact and state that nothing could be done. The next morning, I also reported the complaint to the Thompson rep. No change was made and the situation remained the same to the time we departed. Having never experienced this excessive, dangerous heat during previous visits during much hotter weather, I do believe it was a cost saving exercise. You have been warned.

A lovely hotel completely ruined by smokers. Everywhere you go there is a lingering smell of smoke. Reception, theatre, around the pool areas and in the bars. They were even smoking in the swimming pool as they were being served with drink. The only exceptions are eating areas and a quite noisy sports bar. This is a family hotel which does not seem to realise that children and adults alike are being subjected to this pollution. It would appear that Mexico is now the destination of choice for the smoking community.

I'm only a 3 & 1/2 hr flight away & was able to do a crazy, much needed, 4 night solo weekend in Mexico. It was my second time at the Tequila (I don't usually go to the same hotel twice) & had fingers crossed on it being the perfect short stay. I was in building one, nice. No regrets here in any regard, I had a blast. Everyone, staff & clients (from every corner of the world) all friendly & mixing like a big social experiment. Also a big variety in ages, families, couples & singles. It all made for a very lively, upbeat experience. Food, maybe slightly less quality than last year but still a good variety for all. Construction at the Yucatan is the reason behind the huge discounts right now. Realize this & go accordingly. I'm curious to see the upcoming renos to the Tequila. Maybe I will break all rules and go a third time! have fun kids, I'm envious :)
