My partner and I have just returned from two weeks at the Hotel Tequila. This is our second time staying in a Riu hotel and this was as good at last years holiday in Cape Verde. The hotel is exceptionally clean and tidy with cleaners and gardeners working all day. The staff are very friendly and willing to help with any needs you have. The room we had was on the ground floor with two large beds, table, chairs, two bedside tables and a chest of drawers. The bathroom and wardrobe was off the bedroom separate with a curtain and a separate toilet. The drinks were re-stocked every 2 days.

The dining hall was a little crowded and it was like waiting in the school dinner queue at times but you soon learnt how to avoid this. There was plenty of choice of meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the waiters/waitresses were very efficient and the tables were cleared away very quickly. The only downside was that men were suppose to wear long trousers for dinner but this was not instigated which I feel should be for a five star hotel. We did visit the Asian restaurant which was very good but the Mexican restaurant which is in another hotel was not worth going to, nothing very appertising to eat. There wasn't really any problem in booking these separate restaurants as some people have said.

The pools were clean but could get a bit crowded where the sunbeds were but there are the pools at the other two hotels which you could use and were not as busy.

Thomsons did mix up our checking out date and we were left a note in our room saying we had been charged for a late checkout when we still had one more week left to go! We feel that reception should have checked with ourselves before charging for this so called late checkout. However, when the problem was cleared up the reception staff and Thomsons were most apologetic. All in all could not fault the hotel, would have liked better weather as we did have several days of intense rain and thunderstorms but this is something you have to smile about and get on with it (there are plenty of books to read).

The entertainment team during the day were very good should you wish to participate in the various sports and at night they put on a good show most nights.

I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone and there were things to see around and about with a small shopping complex just a short distance up the road (turn left out of the hotel) should you require any essential items and also 5th Avenue about 30 minutes walk away or a short taxi ride.

Be prepared to wait at least 1-2 hours to get through Cancun airport when you arrive as the procedure through passport control etc is very slow, this was the biggest downfall of the holiday and puts me off going again to Mexico but not to another Riu Hotel.

Enjoy your stay, I did.

Room Tip: Our room was not far from the main reception area opposite the pool. This was very useful when it was raining as some of the rooms are a bit of a walk when it is raining.

Recently returned from a 10 night stay at The Riu Tequila.

Couldn't fault anything.

The room served it's purpose, the service was immaculate, the staff were friendly and the food selection couldn't be faulted.

Room Tip: I would recommend a first floor room. We stayed ina ground floor room and becuase we hit the beginning of the rainy season the room felt a little (and I mean a little) damp. Didn't spoil anything though.

We visited the Tequila twice tis year. Once in Feb and again the end of March. It was our 15 th time. As always the managers were always there for you at any time (Sabrina was our most contact and what I nice person she is. The food is always plentiful and excellent. The animation team is excellent (Kenny) The beach nearby is as good as it has been since 1998. I don't know how anyone would write a bad review. Granted it is not a 5 star but everything makes up for any faults. Bar service is excellent at all times (Cruz and Dahlia) We will be back again next winter for a great holiday.

We staye at the Riu Tequila at the beginning of December and had a very pleasant time.
My husband was delighted by the optics in our room. The swimming pool was apparently unseasonably cold but you soon got used to it. I loved doing aquarobics and stretch every day.
The beach was a short walk across the road from the hotel and was beautiful white sand and cool to walk on. We did some trips and found the history of Mexico and the Mayans to be fascinating.

Loved it, can't wait to go back, close to the town, in front of the water, I was walking around with 2 Margaritas on each hand no big deal!
