“A peice of Mexican heaven”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

Me and my friend travelled in November 2013 and this was our second time at this outstanding hotel, although not our second time in Mexico, but we chose to return to this hotel as it offers everything a traveller to Mexico could ever wish for, which is why returned. From check in to check out (which for the second time left us in floods of tears because we never want to leave)we were not disappointed yet again. The grounds are amazing and maintained to the highest of standards to include the most friendly and dedicated man who sits in his boat and keeps the lagoons exceptional. The animals are amazing and the monkey's visited our balcony every morning and as an animal lover it was an amazing treat to be honoured with their presence. Sandos is filled with rich Mexican culture to include there own ruins so to be honest you don't need to leave grounds as there's that much to do. The food is outstanding with a vast choice for all tastes. The restaurants are exceptional with very efficient and dedicated staff, even the buffet restaurants is a treat who's staff made every visit a pleasure, but I must praise the steak house as not only will the food take your breath away, the whole building is a work of sophisticated class. The animation team headed by the 'ROCK' to include the most friendly and talented people, Blass, Noah, Roberto and Melicia and all off the team who I have not named will entertain you with the most wonderful shows and they will have you laughing with joy for your whole stay. The bar staff are quick, friendly and very helpful to include the most wonderful man Gasper who always had my favourite drink ready when he saw me walking over to the pool bar. We have stayed in some hotels in Mexico whereby you cannot get served unless you are flashing the tip money, Sandos is not like this as not all cultures around the world have the tipping culture so this is not expected by there guest which is very nice to see. Our rooms were kept outstanding by the cleaning staff who always had a big smile on their faces even when faced with the mess we sometimes left. Our holiday was made even more special by the most wonderful, caring and dedicated member of staff they have, who now we have the great pleasure of calling a friend, Nora their Chief Concierge who could not do enough to make an already special holiday OUTSTANDING & AMAZING. We see Sandos and all of it's staff as one big happy family to include all of there guest. Thank you Sandos for our little piece of Mexican heaven and taking us to your hearts....We are already planning our return, love to you all room 221 Sharon & Lindsay p.s I'm sorry their isn't a 6th box to put Sandos in because you are a very special and unique hotel.

This was our first visit to the Riviera Maya so didn't know what to expect. Upon arrival at the resort Monica Mendez greeted us and was very helpful then and throughout out our stay. We were in the Select Club section so had access to a pool and section of the beach for adults only, which was nice.
The resort is amazing in that it offers all the amenities that any one could want all the while co-excisting with nature and the jungle. The resort is very well laid out, no attraction is further than a few minutes walk away, but you never have the feeling of being over crowded.
In some places there are rocks in the water, but with water shoes these were easily gotten around to the sandy areas. Lots of room and lounges, chairs, etc on a beautiful fine sandy beach.
The resort is very well looked after and very clean. The restaurants, snack bars, and bars are well placed throughout the resort and all offer service al various times of day, ensuring 24 hours service. Everyone was friendly, helpful and always had a smile. I commented to one bar tender that his drinks were very good and he said it was easy because he really liked his job. It appears that others do as well, so you immediately get the sense of happiness everywhere you go.
All in all this little slice of paradise is definitely a great place to stay. Thank you Monica and everyone for a great holiday!

We enjoyed the resort - the food was great and our room was very nice. We particularly enjoyed the nature trails around the resort and the off site tours that were offered. Most memorable for us was our nature tour with Noemi. She has a great personality for a guide, upbeat and very friendly. She knew all about the plants and animals around the resort and gave good information. She also took us on a walk outside to look for birds and other native species.
We loved it!

Room Tip: If walking is an issue, choose a room closer to the dining areas. We enjoyed walking very much esp...

have just returned after 2 weeks at sandos caracol. After reading reviews we opted for the select club which was the best decision we made on the holiday. The room was a large one with 2 double beds and a large bathroom. the select club pool was a good size and was generally quiet. the pool restaurant was open from 7:00 and did breakfast and then straight onto lunch menu with excellent food. the select club beach was good and the clubhouse did drinks, snacks and toilets. all select club areas were adult only. The Mexican was definitely the best of the two buffet restaurants with tasty ribs a must. The speciality restaurant were all good tho' the steak restaurant was definitely the best. I would recommend using your full quota of these. The wildlife was interesting with the coatis amusing to watch in their family group. The monkeys were to be seen in the morning at the select club pool. The raccoons came out in the evening and were mob handed around the 24 hr snack bar. the staff were excellent all over the site and the two girls who did the pool waitressing in the heat were the stars. We had a couple of small problems which were fixed pronto.excellent holiday and would go back . One minus is the areas in the sea for swimming small due to rocks. Keep away from guest services as they only want to sell elite club holidays.

Room Tip: go select club.

This hotel is a very nice hotel set in the tropical forests that takes up most of the general area. The hotel is a large resort that accommodates up to 1000 rooms but this was not felt when walking around as the hotel. The layout was set out into blocks of rooms instead of one large building; this gives sense of space and community among other guests.

We stayed in the select adult only area which I must say was very much worth it as we were given a separate pool from the rest of the hotel and also a separate part of the beach that of course didn’t include any kids. On the beach there is also an adults only club house that was great in the day and in the evening where you can just sit by the beach or play pool upstairs. One thing to note is that the sea is rocky and not easy to get in and out of and was a bit annoying when just wanting to submerge yourself in the ocean.

A wide range of food was available from the 3 buffet restaurants which always had plentiful amounts of food available and always served at reasonable temperature. Staff always came over and provided table service for drinks and also cleared your plates very quickly. The la carte restaurants that we went to were the Brazilian and the Italian which were great and a good way to break up the buffet style eating every day.

Lots of shows in the evening but never really got round to them as we preferred to drink by the beach and listen to the waves of the ocean.

One last thing, easy to get into Playa by taxi, simple as you like and easy to get back to (even after CoCo Bongo), cost around $140 pesos.

All in all a great holiday with a great hotel.

Well our time here at Sandos Caracol has come to an end for another vacation. We wanted to drop a line or two and thank everyone that has made our time here such a special one. We truly feel like Sandos Caracol and the Royal Elite Vacation Club is like our Mexican home.

We wanted to take the time and thank everyone by name so that these special people would be recognized in the proper fashion. This starts with Tamara and Cynthia who look after our reservations and all the other many things that make staying here so special. Next to the wonderful girls Nora, Carolina and Yanet who help us at the Royal Elite lobby counter with dinner reservations, golfing and all the other great activities available to members. Also at the spa; manager Claudia and the therapists Daniel, Eduardo and Griselda are awesome at their jobs.

Thank you to Julio from the sales team that took time out of his busy schedule to show us that we have the best vacation plan around and for being a good friend outside of work also. The sales team is a great bunch of people; everyone waved or stopped by to say hi during their sales tours whether we were hanging out at the Infinity Pool or walking down the path. It is a great feeling to be recognized by the many people here to feel like a part of the Sandos family.

And finally and most importantly the wonderful people in the Royal Elite restaurant that are there to greet us every morning with a “welcome home” smile. The entire staff; Monica, Virginia, Noemi, Benedicto, Jose, Patricia, Josue, Irving, Eduardo, and Tomas, also Martha, Oscar, Luciano, and Benito make our days start and end fabulously. Besides being taught how to speak Spanish, the great interactions with all and the excellent food is something that would make us and anyone want to come back again and again.

By coming to Sandos Caracol time and time again, we get the chance to see the improvements and changes not only around the resort, but also the staff. As being business owners ourselves, we know the value of having a great staff to run a business. Both of us believe you have just that here at Sandos; a great staff and that is really noticed by the job promotions you do with the many people here. We have seen staff go from starter positions to managers and that is awesome.

As it would take many pages to thank everyone individually (as we haven’t even mentioned anyone in the other restaurants that we have attended), but every place that we have visited within the resort has given us exceptional service, great pleasantries, and have always greeted us with an honest smile. The entire establishment at Sandos Caracol can be considered as a home away from home, whether being there for 1-2 weeks or like us for a month.

Truly, thank you all for everything.
See you again soon
Trent and Kathy

this was a last-minute booking and i was not expecting what i received! the staff at Caracol are outstanding and consistently go out of their way to enhance the guest experience. Average rooms are average, i am sure upgraded rooms are great. I would highly recommend this resort, given the staff experience, the ++ quality of the buffets (only fair ratings of the 2 restaurants I experienced) and the fabulous location. Given another opportunity, I will certainly return to Sandos Caracol in the coming frigid Canadian months. I would recommend you do so as well.
