Owner description: This store has been referred to as an "art gallery" and "not just a special shopping experience but a learning experience as well" due to the fact that you will always find Citlali at the store giving detailed explainations about the origens, representaions and unique techniques used in the making of the finer handcrafts of all parts of Mexico. With more then 30 yrs. experience searching for the handcrafts and selecting the pieces for how they represent the people, the culture and the history of Mexico at it's best. There are photos throughout the store where you can meet the artiist while he or she is creating the particular item you are admiring. You will not find "Playa del Carmen" or "Riviera Maya" written on any of the handcrafts as we do not deal in souvenirs.

The first time my wife and I walked by this shop it was closed. We went back once and found the store to be fascinating. After we ran inti the owner at a cocina economica, we decided to return. The selection of folk art is incredible. There is art from all over Mexico. It is authentic and amazing quality. This is definitely a souvenir shop like so many on Fifth Ave.
the is personable and very knowledgeable. She takes the to educate you about the pieces she sells.
My wife and I will definitely as it is a wonderful place to browse and learn about Mexican art and crafts.

After 2 days in Playa, you'll realize that most souvenir shops are filled with 80% of the same stuff. The same hats, the same pottery, the same tequila, the same covers, the same masks...

If you get sick of this and want to find different stuff, this is the place to go (along with Sol Jaguar and the art galleries).

Of course, it's more expensive, but if you want to bring a piece of Mexico back with you, I suggest you go there! The owners travel Mexico and deal with the artisans directly.

In my book, a must.

We were recommended to this store by the owner’s son (he works for Edventure tours) and were nothing but satisfied. We were looking for authentic Mexican art to bring back to the United States and were amazed at the selection. It is very cool to learn about the pieces you pick out! The selection was endless and the prices were very reasonable for authentic art/souvenirs. If you are looking for one of a kind authentic pieces FMH is the place to go!

I have purchased several items from FMH over the years for both myself and as gifts. If you like quality Mexican art and handcarfted folk art this is the place to visit while in Cancun or Playa. The friendly owner, Citlali, travels throughout Mexico to gather the most wonderful regional Mexican art, jewelry, texitles etc., and offers them at reasonable prices. She buys direct from the artisans so she can affort to give to good prices on unique items. Additionally, she is willing to spend time to give you the history and background on the items and the artisan and region where they are made. She pays the artists a fair price so she is not exploiting the artists. Finally, Citlali has a unique perspective on the area, the history and tips on where to go while on vacation in the Yucatan, and is willing to share her knowledge and recommendations to enhance your experience. Stop by say hello and make a friend.

We visited this fun store just last week and purchased a great, authentic wood carving. If you love Mexican folk-art this is the place to go. The owners aquire the pieces directly from the artisans whom they seem to have a real respect and admiration for. Don't worry about traveling home with your treasure because Citlali will pack it safely for you. If we return to Playa Del Carmen I will most definately come back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for "the real stuff".
