Arrived in Cancun on the 25th of November, after a stop-over and delay, due to a tropical storm, at the airport in Cozumel. It was good to see the REEF and all the familiar faces again. Unfortunately we missed some employees due to the H1N1 flu scare. The WHO did a lot of damage to the tourist industry.
This was our tenth time at this resort and so far never did regret it. We are planning our next stay in April 2010 already.
The food and service in the Chula Vista and Botticelli was very good.
Our 14 day stay was very pleasant and we hated to leave the REEF.

I stayed at the hotel and thought it was nice. We had a few issues with the room; the air conditioner leaked which I knew since I read reviews on this site. The room was smaller than I thought it would be. The shower leaked but this was something that was easily fixed with a few towels on the floor. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was ok, not as bad as some of the reviews I read. As long as you know how to ask for what you want then you should be fine. I asked the cooks if they could make me special dishes for breakfast and they did without hesitation. We liked the buffet the best but only because we could pick the food that we liked. The hotel has two "fancy" restaurants that were only ok. Bring dressier clothes if you plan to eat in them. The only thing that I wished they had more of is authentic Mexican food. The beach was amazing, crystal blue water and white sand....nice! The grounds were pretty clean although I would have liked to see the pool cleaner. If you want the bartenders to pay great attention to you then just tip a bit. If you get the chance get a massage it was amazing! Overall I had a good time for a great price thanks to expedia!

I loved the Reef. I have to admit i was unsure about staying there after i read some of these reviews. But to my amazement I had a perfect time. The hotel was beautiful and the help was amazing. They were very nice and helpful. The beach was beautiful and the pools were awesome. I had a perfect stay at the hotel. The food was amazing as well. I am definitely returning next year and plan to return as much as possible.

The dive shop at this hotel may be the most professionally run outfit in Mexico.

Gilles and his staff are excellent divers. What is most impressive is that the help is actually helpful. I brought three other divers from the neighboring property after talking with them about the quality of the dive experience I had here.

We stayed at the Reef Playcar the first week in November. I dont like to complain and usually find Good in something but this was the absolute worst stay we have ever had in the 10 or so times we have been to Mexico!!!!
The room smelled badly of mold and mildew to the point that we didnt unpack we just kept everything zipped up in the suitcase. We could not get another room as we were told it was full.
The food was the absolute worse and we went into Playa most nights to eat...so much for the all inclusive.... But Great if you are trying to loose weight !!!!!
The pools were so cold that you would get a headache if you stayed in over 5 minutes thus they were empty.....One redeeming feature was the beach and the ocean felt like a bath after the pools.
The one good thing is the location, it is close to Playa so you can walk in for dinner.
I hate going on and on but there are much better places to stay because we all want the same thing......A Great Vacation at the Best Value which this is NOT....

The resort is quiet, but the rooms are not very pleasant. There seemed to be a lot of unavailable rooms when we checked in.
We arrived after 11:00 PM and were promptly ignored by the night desk staff. The room we were shown to was moldy and the next morning were offered one not much better. We ended up paying an extra $300 for an upgrade for a week, which was very clean, bright and comfortable.
We had no complaints about the food selection which was good and the serving staff very friendly.
The beach was adequate, but there was a scuba tour boat anchored there, that came and left right from the beach, which made the swimming area a little crowded. The day staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring that we had plenty of drinking water in our rooms.
The main pool was located beside the next door hotel's air conditioning area and was noisy all the time. It was in need of repair and was closed the day before we left for hygiene reasons. We ended up with rashes by the time we had left for home.
The other pool was in need of repair and was a little aged.
The travel guide office is located on site and was reasonable once we had learned to negotiate a fair price for day trips. It is advisable to check out the other tour operators in the area before paying from any one operator
We were about a ten minute walk to Playa del Carmen or a 50 pesos ride by taxi.
