We just came back yesterday from a 1 week stay at the Iberostar Tucan. This hotel is probably situated on one of the nicest beach of Riviera Maya. Also, what is nice about this hotel is that it is situated in Playacar just beside Playa Del Carmen. However, for almost the same price, we would say that the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo, where we went last year, is superior for the selection of food and wine at the buffet and the overall service. I am gluten intolerent and I must say that the chef at the Lindo was very accomodating, baking me pancakes and muffins every morning. I was expecting the same kind of service this year at the Tucan but even though they wrote me a letter in Spanish for me to show the servers and chefs whenever I would go eat, they didn't have anything gluten free before the eve of our departure (and it was not good). We were at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach in 2009, and we also liked it better than the Tucan. Overall, we had a good time, the rooms are clean, the food is good (but there could be more variety) and the service is OK. The highlight, I would say, are the monkeys. If you are not planning on going to Playa del Carmen numerous times during your stay and if you don't get excited over monkeys, I would recommend that you go at the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo instead.

Just returned from 6 wonderful days at the the Iberostar Tucan. The Tucan met or exceeded or expectations in every way. Our favorites were the beach and the Star friends. The beach is very large and had plenty of chairs. The jungle setting was really neat, we had monkeys outside our balcony every morning. Overall we had a great experience and would recommend this resort highly.

We have just come back from a 2 week stay at this hotel and had the most amazing time. The rooms are great - we were in block 13 - great location for the jungle and the pool and away from the noise of the night-time entertainment - important when you have young children. We were on the top floor which is just great for seeing the birds and the monkeys. The first room we were given only slept 3 (and there are 4 of us) but the hotel quickly corrected this error and the room we had for the 2 weeks was great. The food is amazing at the buffets and the restaurants, the entertainment staff work really hard keeping everyone happy (I especially liked the aqua aerobics and zumba with Mauricio), the pool is great and very clean, the beach was beautiful and spotless, the staff are very attentive and you never go for very long without being asked if you want a drink (at the pool & beach), the grounds and buildings are beautiful, I am starting to run out of superlatives! We chose this hotel especially because of the jungle area and the wildlife and we weren't disappointed. The only disappointment was to see animals and birds being used as photographic props and seeing them mistreated. I know the First Choice rep is trying to persuade the hotel to stop this, but so many people buy the photos I think she is fighting a losing battle. I would definitely stay here again (and I am normally one to go for a different location every time I holiday) - we have been missing it ever since we left! We went on a couple of trips with Dressel Divers (who are located within the hotel) - the local snorkelling trip is just great and highly recommended - I have never seen so many fish and we even saw squid. We also did the Cozumel snorkelling trip and loved that. We hired a car for a couple of days and drove the Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum which was very easy - get there early to avoid the crowds. We also did a snorkelling trip to Hidden Worlds cenote and Akumel to see the turtles and I would recommend both these places. We travelled with First Choice and the rep at the hotel was great, but the flights (especially going to Mexico) were pretty awful - First Choice have no idea how to treat people going on a long-haul all-inclusive holiday in terms of the flight - there was minimal food, drink and tv and nearly all the toilets were out of order on the plane! So after a 11 and a half hour flight we weren't in good shape. Never again!

Room Tip: As for block 13 or 14, top floor over-looking the jungle.

Having previously stayed 6 years ago at The Quetzal we were already familiar with the Tucan hotel and the facilities. If anything I think the hotel has improved. The plus points - great weather - although I know the hotel didn't organise that, cleanliness - couldn't be faulted, friendly staff - a credit to the management, the restauarants - particulalry the Italian and Japanese. The only slightly negative points - generally not enough staff at reception, in particular we had to wait a while to check in which after a very long journey was not what we needed, an extra bar is needed at the beach so people don't have to enter the restaurant in swimsuits, more toilets areneeded at the beach area. The rooms could probably do with a makeover (I was ha ppy with it but the boss thought otherwise). Overall we had a great holiday and would recommend this hotel.

Outstanding value for money for a lively holiday at a very good resort hotel with some unusual features - the animals in the grounds delighted us all.
The quality of food, drink, cleanliness and service are very high.
Although the bedroom decor is somewhat unusual it was comfortable and clean and contained everything that we required.
A hotel we would recommend.
