We stayed at Paradisus La Perla from June 12-20th and it was an incredible vacation! We arranged for our wedding to be at this resort and had 55 of our closest friends and family join us at this resort. We visited the resort in November, where we got engaged and we knew this is where we wanted to be married! We were so impressed during our first visit with the high quality service, food and that the resort is only 1 1/2 years old and is in immaculate condition. The resort is absolutely beautiful. We loved the modern décor. So we booked our wedding at this resort. All of our guests were raving over the resort and it continued as they experienced the high quality service and food during their vacation. We have had guests who have traveled extensively all of the world and couldn't say enough about how wonderful of a resort it is and how amazing the service was they received. The restaurants and food are simply amazing. There are so many restaurants to dine at and experience various types of food. We loved La Palapa restaurant, the Market and Bana. The breakfast at Hadar is incredible and the service is wonderful. The pool and the swim up bar atmosphere was so much fun. We loved that this resort has an abundance of pool cabanas that are available. You do not have to reserve them and they are readily available and very comfortable! The beach is beautiful! Unlike other resorts we have stayed at in this area, there is not any seaweed on the beach. It is clean and beautiful. The beach food and drink service that we received from our new friend REYES during our stay was absolutely amazing!! Everyday we went to the beach he remembered our names and we became friends with him! He was so attentive and would bring us another drink even before the first was finished! So we were never looking for him, he was always there! Just AMAZING SERVICE!! We were looking to arrange a group golf trip for the guys the morning of our wedding. We received incredible service from LUCIA with Guest Services for this. She far exceeded our expectations and went out of her way to help us arrange this special golf day. After she helped us with the golf, she helped us with various other activities at the resort. She is truly one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We absolutely LOVED her!!!

This was honestly the best vacation we have ever been on and we were able to experience it with 55 friends and family. The hardest part is having to leave and the reality of returning home. We can't wait to go back again soon!

Just returned from our stay at the Paradisus La Perla. Wish we were still there! Our room was in the Royal Service section. The room was beautiful. We loved the bathroom with the double sink, double shower and huge bath tub, and the large jacuzzi on the balcony. The bed and pillows were so comfortable. Our butler was Aldo and thanks to his efficient but discreet service, our holiday ran smoothly.

We enjoyed eating at the Palapa and other restaurants. The ingredients were fresh and of the highest quality. In the morning, I especially loved the made-to-order smoothies. My favourite was made with strawberries, mango, banana and pineapple. Our eight-course meal at the Passion restaurant, including wonderful wine pairings, was memorable. The sommelier was very knowledgeable.

In spite of some of the comments posted on tripadvisor, we loved the beach. It is a great walking beach in both directions. You can walk for kilometers. The sand is soft and cool. The negative comments are mainly due to the rocks when you enter the water in front of the hotel. But it is a protected, natural beach, and the hotel cannot remove the rocks for environmental reasons. All you have to do is walk 2-3 minutes to the left (past the Esmerelda side) and you can then enter the water in a place where there are no rocks at all. Because it is a bay, the waves are small. We swam every day.

The Royal Service pool and bar were great! We really loved the Bali beds! One thing that surprised us was the number of people at the pool who spent all day on the Web with their smart phones (!), instead of talking to their partners and enjoying the lovely surroundings. I felt like saying: "Come on guys! Leave those phones in the room. This is not why you came here."

The service was amazing. The staff is warm, polite and efficient. They are a real asset and make this beautiful, well-run hotel great! I would gladly return and recommend it to my friends and family.

I will write my review in the order things happened, many comments are good, if not excellent, but a couple of things could do with changing.

On arrival you will notice that the resort is outside of Playa del Carmen (about 30 to 40 minutes walk along the beach) and in an area that is not the most salubrious, but that's OK if you don't want to go out.

You are met by your 'concierge' who will explain the resort to you and offer to book restaurants for you at the time you would like. This takes up to 20 to 30 minutes and is, in some people's mind, a waste of time, especially after a 10 hour flight and a 1 hour transfer, we would agree and even more so when you realise the next day that you can book the restaurants yourself at any of numerous guest help desks around the hotel.

You also realise that the only purpose of the 'concierge' is to try and talk you into a VIP breakfast which is no more than an excuse to have some one sit with you and your family for breakfast and try and get you to buy into a scheme for Melia hotels. Even though we said no on the first day every time we saw our concierge, who's name was Ekaterina, she tried the hard sell of, 'My boss wants to know why you are the only family not agreeing to come to breakfast', suggesting that she was going to get into trouble if we did not go. Therefore she is now in trouble as we didn't go.

After this tiresome start we were shown to our rooms and things definitely started to look up, they were wonderful. A large bathroom with double sinks, a huge bath and a double walk in rain shower, loads of towels, bathroom accessories and a hair-dryer.

The bed was massive, beautiful sheets and a mattress to die for. Next was a partial divide followed by a 3 seater lounger, a large coffee table, a desk with two chairs and then patio doors leading onto a large patio with two wicker chairs and a table. There is free WiFi connection throughout the resort.

Next place to visit was one of the 11 restaurants, but which, some were for adults only and some for families with younger children?

The best way to describe the hotel is like a large letter M with the adult section being on the left leg, the family section being on the right leg and the reception, bars and restaurants being in the centre section. Pools were situated between the left leg and centre section, for adults, and between the right leg and centre section for families. Adults could move throughout the resort, children under the age of 18 could not move to the adult section.

It turns out that it didn't matter which restaurant you chose as they were all superb. The best way of describing them is to say that if they were situated in your own town then you would happily pay to eat in them. Obviously we had preferences but they were down, mainly, to our own choice of food and the style of restaurant. There was one restaurant, Passion, created by a chef who was billed as a 7 Star Michelin chef, which anybody who knows anything about Michelin stars knows a chef cannot carry more than 3 stars but that adds to the quaintness of the Mexican way. I suppose that sounds a little pretentious, which is quite apt as so was the restaurant. Food was lovely but the service 'tried too hard'. As an example I ordered a different glass of wine for myself, my wife and my daughter, as we all like different tastes, but they wouldn't serve the wine until there were 3 waiters free so one could pour each glass of wine all at the same time - no need, way over the top.

Before dinner, and after if you wanted, you could sit either out doors, or if that felt too warm, in an indoor AC'd bar, you could choose from 14 of them some with entertainment, which was very good (and that from someone who isn't all that keen on holiday, after dinner entertainment) especially in the main adult meeting bar, the Gabi Club. Drinks were free flowing and no matter what you asked for nothing was too much trouble and if they didn't have what you asked for they would run to a near by bar to get a bottle and bring it back for you.

Finally the adult pool area, managed by a wonderful guy, Martin, who was really helpful with all requests and was always making sure everything ran smoothly. There were a number of choices of areas to sunbathe, either peaceful quiet areas or areas nearer to the central pool which was a great size, wonderfully clean, lively at times and a great place to meet people, and surrounded by numerous sunbeds. There were also numerous Cabana's offering amazing comfort (I slept after lunch every afternoon as it was just the right thing to do) and shade, surrounding the sunbeds.

In the main pool there was a swim up bar which became the centre of many people's attention especially late into the afternoon, and which was ran by three main guys, Juan, Everado and Robert and believe me between them they made the holiday for us all. They were great fun, professional in everything they did and nothing was ever too much trouble for them, they welcomed you with a smile when you wanted water at 09.00 and said goodnight to you with a smile when you went to get ready for dinner at 18.00 - fantastic advert for the resort.

With such a glowing review you may well ask yourself why have we not given the resort 5 stars, there are two main reasons. First, as explained above the pushiness of the 'concierge' about us agreeing to a VIP breakfast - a true 5* establishment would never take this approach and project itself as a hard-sell hotel, and secondly, and this is linked to my comments above, following a storm one evening on walking to the lifts in the morning my wife slipped and fell on the wet, marbled floors in the corridor, landing on her elbow and bruising it quite badly. We reported the accident to the guest service desk, warning them of the danger so they could have it dried so others wouldn't suffer the same fate. The chap we spoke to said he was sorry to hear of my wife's accident, went silent for a minute and then asked if we had been on a VIP breakfast or if we had taken the Melia Club tour, I will not repeat my response but suffice it to say I could not believe what I was hearing.

All in all we had a great holiday, both my wife and I and our two grown (25 and 22) children, there was ample to keep all occupied and happy and excluding the two issue I have mentioned, would recommend the hotel to anyone. We had a fantastic time, accommodation, food, entertainment, drinks, service , especially the 3 wise men at the pool bar, were superb and would go back tomorrow, but not with Thomas Cook who we flew with but that's another story.

Room Tip: They are all good in the adult section, cant speak for the other side

This resort is definatelty a 5 star in every way. Food was excellent, resort is ultra modern and very "Zen: The entertainment was first class as was the servie. The staff is exceptionally friendly and was always willing to satisfy our every need. Santos our server (lunch) at the Market restaraunt "made" our vacation. He was extremely attentive to our needs, very funny and polite at every occassion. He even introduced our group to a new "lunch" drink - the "Bandera" I personally thank Santos for making our trip that much more memorable. Rick, Isabelle, Jacquline, Ed and May thank you very much.

all I can say is this is the most best and perfect hotel ever! Beats any hotels I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in what I thought were nice hotels in nice countries, well until I came here! The food was out of this world, 10 different restaurants so the most varied all inclusive! The hotel it's self was only 1 1/2 old so looking brand new and literally couldn't fault it! The rooms were spotless and pure luxury and the staff were incredible. I have never met so many friendly kind people in one place.
We stayed in the royal service area as it was our honeymoon but would definitely do it again. We had so much free alcohol and drinks it was crazy. They re stocked the mini bar everyday, and changed our room, towels twice a day! The facilities were beautiful, all free cabanas and double lounge beds to sunbath on!
Really couldn't recommend a better place! And I really am I fussy person and can't easily find something to moan about, and this hotel I literally can not!

We stayed at Paradisus La Perla from June 3-17th and it was our first 5 star resort. After reading reviews we were up and down about what to expect. Upon check in it was nothing but quality service and very friendly staff. We decided not to go with the cell phone butler service, but our personal server was Celena and she was amazing, professional, and always making sure we were taken care of no matter what it was. We stayed in the swim up suite and it was beautiful. It over looks the main pool and does not have direct access but it is not a far walk from the rooms. All of the staff work very hard and always aim to please. They always have a smile on their face! All of the resturants were great and the quality of food was better then I have ever had at any AIC. We got to know the staff on a more personal level and appreciated their company. We met some great people as well :). I would reccommend this hotel to anyone I know and we do plan to return in the future!

Room Tip: We had room 1091 swim up suite closer to the end with privacy and still close enough to everything!

What an amazing resort. We had a beautiful 7 night honeymoon in a swim up suite at La Perla (adults only side). Every aspect of this trip was amazing. The pool area was beautiful. We pretty much moved from our own hut to the lounge chairs to the pool bar over and over. At no point did we not have great service wherever we were. The beach is small, but perfect. Only negative is that the first 10 yards or so into the ocean is pretty rocky. Other than that, no other complaints. The room was very updated and clean. Having the swim up suite made was an added bonus. Now for the best part. The restaurants. The food exceeded our expectations, as did the service. Every night we found ourselves saying that we had a new favorite restaurant. They really take pride in providing excellent service as well. We have to say that Ivan at the Hadar (breakfast restaurant) was possibly the nicest person we have ever met. He truly made our experience that much better. We really looked forward to going to the Hadar every morning not only because of Ivan's great service, but also because the food was so good! We will definitely come back to the Paradisus!
