My boyfriend and I (40) stayed at this hotel for 9 days in mid-March. We have stayed at several All Inclusives in Mexico, Jamaica, DR, etc. This was definitely the most luxurious in terms of ambience, dining options and service. We stayed in the Royal Service section and I'd say it was worth it given that we paid less than $50 more per night for the upgrade through Expedia.

Airport customs was fairly easy and we were in our USA Transfers private transport quickly and to the hotel in under 45 minutes. Yes, the ride in is through a local neighborhood, but it is not "scary" as some have put it and it doesn't detract from the hotel in any way. We were taken by golf cart to the Royal Service check-in. It was smooth, with the exception of the fact that we had received a coupon booklet containing coupons for spa, wine, and a room upgrade, and the room upgrade was basically useless and could not be honored by the hotel unless we wanted to move to a swim-up or one bedroom suite outside of the Royal Service Section. We were brought to our Junior Suite, on the third floor with a nice view of the ocean and the Royal Service pool.

Rooms:
The rooms are very nicely appointed and brand new. Probably not as large as some I have stayed in, but the large patio with jacuzzi and the view made up for it. The most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at a hotel. Large closets, nice seating area, beautiful bathroom with additional jacuzzi tub and double head tiled shower.

Pools:
We spent the majority of our time at the Royal Service pool. It had cabanas in the shade which were taken early, and swivel double sun loungers in the sun that you could get on most days if you were at the pool by 9:00. The service at this pool was excellent. Arturo and Jorge were on top of everything, making sure you had a good time. When ordering lunch at the pool, you could choose from the menu or Arturo even offered to go to various restaurants to get you "whatever you want" even if it wasn't on the menu. He would even bring breakfast for the days when we didn't want to waste pool-time sitting in a restaurant to eat. Jorge made the most excellent drinks, the shots were flowing and you could have top-shelf alcohol if you wanted it. When you would get up from your spot, your towels would often be straightened when you returned. We met many people at this pool and hung out there for much of our time at La Perla. We did visit the main pool one day when there was a pool party. It was colder than our pool, but the service pool-side was good as was the food.

Beach:
The beach is not the best we have been to, but it isn't unswimmable. The La Perla section does have lots of rocks but if you walk a little further down it is clear and the staff was marking where rocks were as well as trying to clean them out each day we were there. The beach is a nice walking beach and we walked down to Playa del Carmen easily in about 30 minutes. We played beach volleyball a couple of days which was really fun and a good way to work off all the food we were eating.....

The Food:
The food at this resort is probably the best thing about it. We tried almost all the restaurants. Fuego, Vento, Bana, Mole, The Market, Naos, La Palapa, Gabi Club, Passion. All were excellent. We particularly enjoyed the ceviche choices at Fuego, along with their amazing desserts. Mole was excellent. The service at all the restaurants was good- not to fast, so you could enjoy your dinner, but not so slow you were waiting around a lot. You could order as much as you wanted. We wanted to try everything and often ordered multiple appetizers and a few entrees to share. There were no problems doing this. The Royal Service building had an area with food set up all day- small little bites to grab in between meals (brie, cucumbers stuffed with salmon mousse, gazpacho, etc.) if you wanted and they were very good. We ate at the exclusive Royal Service restaurant, La Palapa often for breakfast and once for dinner and it was very good. If food is important to you at a resort, it is the best here of anywhere we've ever been.

Service:
We received a cell phone upon arrrival and could call our butler any time for anything. (extra coat hangers, light not working in the room, a bottle of wine for the room, dinner reservations). He would periodically check in with us and once we even called him on a day he was not at the resort but he made arrangements for us without a problem. All of the staff at this hotel was friendly, particularly the wait staff. At Vento, their F&B manager would come around to the tables and ask how everything was. Service at all the bars was excellent as well.

Bars:
There are so many bars at this resort. We enjoyed the MBar, South Avenue, the Red Lounge and Gabi several times. You could have whatever you wanted, basically. Each bar had a different theme/vibe and it was unlike any all inclusive we've ever been too.

Overall:
We were most impressed with the food, as stated, but also the decor of this resort. Some major thought and $$ went into decorating. There was beautiful furniture everywhere, lounging beds everywhere you turned, beautiful decorations hanging from the ceilings and amazing lighting throughout the hotel. Perhaps my only complaint, and why I'm not giving it a 5 star, was because many of the areas were completely desserted. The hotel seemed extremely quiet, overall. Sometimes you would go to one of the bars and be the only ones in there, and we like socializing with people, or at least people-watching, and not feeling like we were the only ones there. I think the hotel needs to do a better job of containing people to one area at certain times. They do have shows at Gabi, which keeps people in that area for a short time- but it's such a beautiful club and would have been fun to hang out with more people there. This was the nicest resort we have ever stayed at and I can only imagine it will get even better after it has been open for a while and the secret gets out.

Room Tip: Third floor on the front of the royal service building has great ocean views.

Dear guest,

It is a pleasure for us to receive reviews from our tourists, especially when they really try to communicate every detail during the stay, just like yours. We are proud that you have had a memorable stay at Paradisus.

We are glad to read you were able to enjoy the coziness of your room, the tranquility from the beach, fresh drinks at Royal Service pool bar, the culinary tour offered at our specialty restaurants and buffets; the style and decoration in all the areas. We adore reflecting our interest about details to accomplish the visual impact since the moment you cross the Lobby.

We strongly believe our employees are our biggest strength to provide the service all our guests deserve, that is why your recognition to Arturo and Jorge from Royal Service pool area has been sent to their supervisor in order to encourage them to continue providing an outstanding service.

It was the most wonderful suite we ever had in those type of hotels. Food was very good, but not exceptional, except for La Palapa restaurant (reserved to Royal Section guests). Passion restaurant was less that what we expected. The Royal section pool concierge (Emmanuel) was exceptional, along with the pool waiter, Arturo. At Palapa, a special mention to all the staff, particularily Felipe, and chef Hugo. The Tennis pro, Cesar, was fun to play with and really patient. The only thing that we didn't like of Paradisus La Perla, and that is the reason why, even if we really enjoyed our vacation, we would not go back, is the poor beach condition.

Room Tip: Royal service is worth the price.

This is a first for us on two counts, firstly, we have never left a review before on trip advisor and secondly we have never been back to a resort and this is the first time we have, which definitely says alot about this resort.

A bit of background on us which may help to understand where we are coming from, we are a married couple both being 37(no children), who travel abroad four times a year and have been to countries such as Thailand, Seychelles, America, Canada, Europe, so we feel that we have a broad scope of experince when it comes to hotels. We look for a relaxing hoilday with good service, food and drink and a luxury feel. Piece and quiet is a big factor for me too.

We visited this hotel in December for two weeks and returned twelve weeks later for 8 nights, we enjoyed it that much in December.

The hotel is new having been opened in Novemeber so our experience the second time round was more refined. The hotel itself is modern and very relaxing. The whole abience of the hotel has been well thought out, from the sun loungers to the cabanas and the pool music.

This resort is not that large that it is an effort to walk around like some others have said, all I can say is that they musn't walk anywhere as everything only takes a couple of minutes to get to. The music is not loud, although they do have a pool party once a week for an hour or so, otherwise the music is very relaxing and adds to the vibe of the resort.

The pools are large and if you are not in royal service, it really doesn't matter as the main pool area is lovely too. There is so much space and always a sunbed to be had.

The food is wonderful, we eat out a couple of times a week and we know what we enjoy, I can not see how with all the different choices you could not find something you would like. The Buffet restaurant has alot of choice, the Bana Thai restaurant is fabulous, lovely fresh interesting food. The japanese is lovely as is the sushi bar. The mexican is very tasty, all the food we had was restaurant quality, better most of the time and the best you could ever expect from an All Inclusive. It is better than some meals we have experienced in places like Banyan Tree. All the drinks are top quality alcohol, you just need to ask how you like yours taken. The house wine is lovely both red and white versions. All food was well thought out and you would not be disappointed.

Hotel entertainment is varied and very enjoyable. There are classes in the day, such as wine tating, sushi making, slassa lessons etc. On the evening there are always two or three different things going on and after an enjoyable meal there are shows to watch or a coktails or two to enjoy at one of the many different bars. There is even a club which plays current music with a dancefloor for you to enjoy after hours.

The beach is lovely, no it is not the best beach in the world, but it has clear blue skies, clear blue sea and white soft sand, add to this piece and quiet, comfortable sun loungers and constant waiter service, you will not be disappointed.

Staff are very friendly and nothing is a problem. Many of the staff remembered us which for a large resort made us feel very welcome. Service is very good.

Rooms are lovely, from the basic one up to the one bedroom master suite (we have seen them all). The beds are very comfortable and anything you need in a room is provided.

I did not meet anybody who had a bad word to say about their experience here. You really do feel that this palce is something special.

It takes no time at all to relax into your holiday and everything about the hotel helps you to feel you are in a luxury quality hotel. We will be returning again very soon. As the hotel put it, we are going to make this our home in Mexico, what more could you want!

Stay 24/03/12 – 03/04/12 – La Perla - Room Royal Service
Having read the posts before we left we know the first thing you want to know is: Is it worth it. Answer, Oh so very definitely YES,YES,YES. Okay, so you don’t need to read more, but here is what we thought.
A bit of background first. We read the trip posts, having booked directly with the hotel at Xmas, only two months after opening and three months before we left, (we even had a contingency to fly off to America if it wasn’t what we expected). Nothing could be further from those first slightly negative posts we read, this hotel is going to become very popular if it keeps up the service we experienced. I hope the following gives you a balanced view; I’ll do it in themes, as it will be a longer review you can skip to the bits of interest to you:

Access to hotel. Yes it is through some housing (at the moment) but there are new in roads being built, this really isn’t a problem (it’s only an entrance to a fantastic place at the end of the day!), anyone who has visited the Far East, Thailand etc will see this as normal, it’s a small town, with open fronted shops. We really couldn’t see a complaint here at all . The complex is so completely quiet and set back you won’t notice this at all once you are ‘installed’.

Reception / Butler Service. We were taken to the separate Royal Service check-in by golf cart, the check in was slick (all the normal credit card/ passport checks) and we were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine by one of our butlers, Karen. Some nice touches here, the wrist bands for Royal Service are in a wooden bracelet style, the fact that our suitcases were already in the room and the way in which Karen explained the layout and what they could do was good and not over exaggerated. We had had a 20 hour day travelling, arriving about 6pm Mexico time, so we ordered room service, it is very good and came promptly. We had it again after a trip to Chitzen Itza, also a long day (13hrs) and again it was very good.
We didn’t use our butlers too much, mostly to book our restaurant reservations (see eating later), and I wanted gin in the mini bar, which they arranged, the standard setup seemed to be Vodka, Dark Rum, Tequila & Jack Daniels, with lager, coke, sprite, juice and bottled water in the fridge (restocked daily), there are also two small 300ml bottles of water each day in the bathroom (brushing teeth). They offered to unpack/pack for you, press one item of clothing per day (although the room also has an iron/ironing board) and you have access to a mobile phone to contact them at anytime. For us, (we don’t like too much ‘fuss’) the contact was just right, they found us once a day around the pool or left a voicemail to see if we were okay. We are sure that they would pick up on, and know, the level of contact that would suit you.
On two nights we came back to our room to find the bath already run with rose petals and bubbles, on another, a towel swan was on the bed. On checking in we were asked if we had any special occasions during our stay, as it happened my husband had had his birthday in the few days before we arrived, on one night we came back to find an individual birthday cake and a bottle of cava, completely unexpected and a really lovely touch.
Everything they said they would do was done.

Room Facilities. WOW, WOW, WOW, a spacious room with a large, two basin bathroom, large bath and double rainfall shower, closed off with sliding screen doors that can be left open or closed. Separate toilet. Two double wardrobes, one of which contains a room safe, (slightly larger than normal hotel size I would say, I could put our IPad and similar sized items in it easily. Set of 4 drawers and a then one under each bedside/tv table.
The bed (ours was a US King size) is soooo comfortable. We asked for feather pillows, but you can have a choice including aromatherapy, foam etc.
There was also a sitting area with sofa and coffee table, the entire decor is very nice and contemporary. The balcony had a further Jacuzzi bath, two chairs and small table. A TV and IPod dock are also in the room. (No clock, but alarm call available on telephone). The only slight criticism is that there was no English room directory, so knowing all of the useful background stuff, i.e. about wifi use (it’s free), or if the restaurants use filtered water (it is) wasn’t quickly readable, but the butlers know all of this and if you can read Spanish you’ll be ok.

Restaurants. On our first morning we walked around the complex and looked at all of the menus, we then booked the first five days with our butler, booking the further five a few days later once we had an idea of what we liked. Without fail the food is fabulous, being royal service we used La Palapa for breakfast and some evening meals, but we also ate in Vento, the Grill (the salad bar is scrummy) and had the buffet in the main area for breakfast on a couple of occasions. The food is top quality gastro/top class bistro style and very well presented, the choice is excellent.
For lunch we mostly had a snack around the pool, again, you could choose from the La Palapa menu, or from the other poolside menus, you could also go to the buffet or have sit down, but we tended to eat lite, sharing a club sandwich, wings or ceasar salad, etc (there were also chicken and beef burgers, nachos etc).

Staff. Staff really make this hotel and couldn’t be nicer, nothing is too much trouble. Those that stand out are Arturo and Emmanuel, poolside bar and poolside concierge service, who didn’t stop all day and who have to be singled out for simply the best customer service. They also pay great attention to detail (look at the way in which the pool beds are laid out and cabanas made up if you go). They have a really good grip on the royal service area, several times we saw them quietly but firmly turn away guests that weren’t in royal service.

The staff in all of the restaurants are really friendly and will often greet you by name, considering the size of this hotel, it is something that you would find in something more boutique. During the day you will often be greeted with a hello or how are you – allowing you to engage in the amount of conversation that suits your personality.

Landscaping & other areas. Considering how large this complex is, you wouldn’t know it was only opened in November 2011, the plants are beginning to become established, and the landscaping is very well done, they are obviously taking a great deal of trouble over these, it is nicely lit at night and we particularly liked the boardwalk to the beech through the fauna. (Some posts have been critical of this as ‘you can’t see the beach’, the natural environment adds a nice break between the hotel and beach. There are beds and sunshades on the beach if you want to use them.
The pool, with its bali benches (loungers sculptured into the pool) and swim up bar is very nice and not overcrowded. There are plenty of loungers with cover around the pool, but the cabanas do get taken early.
All of the general areas, bars, lounge sitting areas and walkways are very nicely appointed with good furniture and decoration. They said they were 92% occupancy during our stay, but everywhere felt open and spacious.

Are there any areas to be improved? You would have to be very very picky to say yes, and we wouldn’t want to, okay, so one morning I order just scrambled egg and it came with the bacon as on the menu, sometimes the waiter would leave the tea pot and other times they would come and fill your cup for you, once we didn’t get turndown .... Is that a complaint, I don’t think so.
To end, we think that if it keeps up these standards this hotel will probably become very well known..... Go now whilst you can afford it!!!!

Other info - Transfers to & from. We used the link from the hotel site, also recommended by trip posters. The company, hotel beds for the individual transfer (it’s very slightly cheaper if you are prepared to share, but for an extra £10.00, $15.00 it’s worth it for a straight journey after a long day), they were easy to find on arrival; look for the black tee-shirts with a pink logo, your name will be on a board. We were then taken to a minivan, so lots of space. The journey was quick at about 45 minutes. Our return was also fine and prompt, they arrived on time, again in a spacious mini van. Although, one small point here, they said they would be at the hotel the next morning at 11, my husband went to meet them and possibly book tours with them, but they weren’t there. We rang them and they said the hotel doesn’t let them into the La Perla complex. So we booked our tour through the onsite company. We did also have to ring them to confirm our pick up as they hadn’t contacted us as arranged. The concierge did this with them for us no problem.

Room Tip: Book a high floor ocean view

We spent a wonderful week, during Easter 2012, havng the opportunity to experience both Esmeralda ( appropiate for kids ) & La Perla ( adults only ).
Both offer very large rooms, different sizes and layouts, bathrooms and huge bathtubes. Amenities are from Tierry Mugler
Outside relaxing zones decorated with top furniture – GandiaBlasco; nice music selection along the day and diffferent spaces.
Food and drinks: the best you can have in what quality and variety concerns, ranging from multi star awarded Michelin spanish Chef to “hidden gems” and future promises in world cuisine. Cocktails are made with the best you can have from vodka, gin, rum or tequila; just name and they serve you
If you’re only looking for traditional mexican food - burritos and tacos or other maybe you should choose another location. This is about pure internacional cuisine ....
Staff people to enhance:
Zezinho – concierge chef - the welcome guy, who “opens the gates” of paradisus; always with the best tip about what to do in the Hotel or how to get Playa and what to do – acts like your “time out magazine”.
Juan Pablo – entretaining team - always inviting us with the best manner to participate in the hotel activities – tequila tasting / sushi lessons / beach volley or cayaking.
Chef Julio from La Palapa Restaurant – keep up with the experiences you present to most demanding guests. Excellent meals we had in Lapalapa. The Griil is another spot to enjoy, namely for a light lunch.

Beach care needs to improve in order to be leveled with the quality hotel.
A place to return alone or with kids
