First time in Mexico, I discovered an hidden gem in Riviera Maya! Hotel was perfect, not too big, not too small. CLEAN!!! Staff were always cleaning something. The food was very good at the buffet and at the "A la carte" restaurants. Staff are very friendly at the lobby bar and at the pool bar. Room was spacious for three persons. The beach was wonderful (white sand, no rocks). So everything was perfect! I will go again.

This hotel is a bit smaller than most but we got a really good deal with Sunwing so we picked this hotel. It's a good place for families, couples, or friends to stay. I went with my friend and we had a really good time! The entertainment staff and bartenders/waiters are really friendly and the entertainment is very good. The only reason I only put 4 stars is because we did have bugs in our room the first night which was irritating so we called the front desk and they didn't do anything about it. The bathroom appears newly renovated but we did have a problem with water pressure one day so we called the front desk and they said someone would come fix it but after waiting a long time we called again and they said they'd call the repair person again. Finally someone came to fix it. The staff at the front desk are friendly when you see them in person but whenever we had to call them they seemed to not take us seriously. The maids do an amazing job of cleaning the rooms and they literally won't take your money. We tried to leave them a tip the first day but they didn't take it. We ended up just leaving a big tip on the last day. The food is really good at the buffet and snack bar (best pizza ever!) I'd recommend taking a ride on a catamaran too, they are free at the hotel but you have to sign up at the kiosk by the beach. The kiosk also has an excursions company (Underwater Technical World). We booked a whale shark tour through them which was amazing! The beach was also beautiful and not very busy when we were there. I also really liked the pool, but there were often a lot of couples in there.

We had a wonderful vacation at the Viva Wyndham Azteca. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. The maid kept our room spotless and, after a rainstorm when the humidity got too high, brought in a dehumidifier without our even having to ask. The activities staff are great fun. They really keep you busy all day ... bocce, volleyball, horseshoes, yoga, water aerobics ... you name it! The evening shows were fantastic - great entertainment. We traveled with our two teenagers and heard not one complaint from them. The only thing that needs improvement is the food. The quality and selection of the breakfast buffet is not great. Lunch and dinner were fine. And the a la carte restaurants were very good. This is our second visit and we will definitely go back.

This was our first ever all-inclusive and we couldn't have chose a better place. It is small enough to offer a more exclusive feeling. There aren't many Americans here; mostly Italian. We enjoyed the varied nationalities and felt it added to the experience. We were blown away by the hospitality. EVERY single employee, regardless of their job, offered at least an "Hola" as we walked by. I really enjoyed talking to Manuel who painted the ceramic and wood pieces near the snack bar. He is very talented. I ended up purchasing a piece from him before he had even completed it and so he was able to personalize it for me.
We didn't participate in many of the activities as we were really enjoying the beach. We did walk to Viva Maya which is the sister resort and our visit confirmed that we had made the right choice with the Azteca. The Maya is much busier, more crowded and seemed to have more mosquitoes right next to the rooms due to the heavier jungle on the property. It was prettier with the heavier jungle but the increase in mosquitoes was noticeable. Since the Azteca has only one buffet, I'd say we tired quickly of the same food. Even though they offer a different dinner theme every night, I think we still got a little bored a little too quickly and this is the only reason I didn't give it an excellent rating.. Depending on how many nights you are there, you can have a-la-carte dinners. With three nights, we received one a-la-carte dinner and chose the Il Palco at Azteca because it was air-conditioned (buffet is not) and the menu looked good (at either Azteca or Maya you can ask to see the restaurant menus for both the resorts.) The food was amazing and the wine that was included was pretty good.
The beach in front of Azteca is very nice. It is a continuance of the famous Playa del Carmen beach with fine white sand and a gradual slope. There is a rip tide that shows up in front of Azteca when the waves are higher. It kicked us hard our first day but improved the last two days.
We arrived early and they allowed us to enjoy the all-inclusive part of our vacation without an extra fee without checking into a room. They kept our luggage for us.
We did try the nightly entertainment the first night but it was too hot in the room to really enjoy. The staff were the entertainers and they had quite a routine of fancy dances set up. Some are really talented, others looked as if they just wanted to go home.
We made sure to tip and it was greatly appreciated. The drinks were fairly good although I don't think they know how to make a good mojito.
The rooms were quite nice and there were ample enough spots to sit around near the bars, lobby and other areas.
The pool does close at 8 but this was fine with us as some evenings we were just plain tired and went to bed a little early.
I think we'll return to an all-inclusive but I think I'll look into the a-la-carte restaurants a little closer and ask more about air conditioned locations.

1st visit to Mexico and the Viva Azteca was the perfect choice! We went to get married and Karim Rodriguez answered all my e-mails in advance promptly and with great detail. We were greeted with a warm smile by Pedro and Angel when we arrived and each day after! Alma was gracious and kept our room warm and inviting with charming towel animals and fresh flowers daily! We were welcomed with a personal letter, bottle of wine, tequila, and fresh fruit and a personal meeting to arrange the wedding details...the wedding was perfect...if you want a lovely beach wedding, this is the place! Eddie and Manuel and the pool bar were always quick with a smile and a drink and remembered our favorites each day; the food at the Italian restaurant was amazing as was the sweet wedding cake Bellita served us after the meal. The Mayan restaurant was very good (just don't expect spice), the buffet was good and we could always find our favorite things to eat (the pizza was really good)! The service was always with a smile and a friendly word! Anyone who doesn't enjoy themselves here simply isn't trying!!!! The staff are kind and friendly if you treat them with dignity and respect...we had a great time with them and look forward to seeing them again...we left with new friends! The grounds are kept immaculately and staff was always busy working but never too busy to say hello! We came home relaxed and happy!
If you go to 5th Avenue go to La Frontera (upstairs off of 3rd Avenue) ask for Franco ... chile relleno is amazing!
Akumal Bay snorkeling is a great trip - Marie with Blue Caribe is a wonderful guide - book through the hotel. Well worth the price!
Chichen Itza was also a wonderful tour - also through the hotel. Great history if you enjoy it. Long day but well worth it!

2nd visit to Playa del Carmen. 1st was at Viva - Mayan (see review) this one to Viva -Azreca. This all inclusive offered another great experience. The staff was each very accommodating and cordial. The grounds pristine. Activities galore. And the beach - speechless - in a word, gorgeous. The food varieies seemed endless while rhe specialty restaraunts offered unique fare, well presented and tasty. Truly an international draw, almost everything was presented in 5 languages. As US citizens we almost felt as a minority - not in a bad way. We really enjoyed the outside dining. If you make your reservations through Wyndham Rewards they can set up ground transportation at a discounted rate Go, enjoy! You'll be happy you did.

We really enjoyed our 6-night stay at this resort. Because it's a smaller resort, access to the beautiful private beach is very easy. The entire staff -- front desk, cleaning staff, buffet staff, restaurant staff, water sports staff, activities coordinators, bar staff, groundskeepers, etc. were AWESOME! Very hard-working, friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic. The resort is big enough to have plenty of activities and amenities but small enough for the staff members to remember and interact with you.

Room Tip: Try to get a room as far away from the bar and auditorium as possible, because the music is quite lo...
