Had a great time at Viva Wyndham Maya. Travelled Feb. 23 to March 2, 2013
Check in.
We were a group of 4 couples. One of our couples needed a ground floor room and we had asked to be in the same area not necessarily on the ground floor but close by. At first they had us all in different buildings but within a few minutes they straighten it out and had us all together in the same building within a few rooms or floors of each other.
The food.
The food was good, not great but plenty to choose from. The a la carte restaurants had good parts and no so good. The Lasagne and fish were great at the Italian restaurant, pretty much everything was great at the Mediterranean and the only good thing at the Mexican was the burrito. But the great thing is you can go get something at the buffet is you didn't like your dinner at the a la carte restaurants.
Bars
Never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a drink. All staff were always smiling.
The rooms.
We had a room with a Jacuzzi and a shower, king size bed and a sofa. Room was large. We did not spend much time in the room. People who comment on the decor need to remember that you go for the beach etc. not the room. We did not have face cloths but I had seen this from other review so I brought some. Our friends did get face cloths so I guess if I had asked I could have got some. Rooms were cleaned everyday before noon.
Pool and Beach
The main pool was nice but please watch your step around the pool as it slippery. They really should do something about this as I did see lots of slips. The beach and the ocean is what makes this part of Mexico. A couple of days of rough water then several of very calm water. There is also an adult only pool that was right outside our rooms that was quiet and the bar at that pool was never very busy.
This is a large resort and so there is quite a bit of walking to go to the beach and back especially if you are in the 3000 group of rooms. I did not mind as it made for quiet nights and the exercise to work off the food that I ate.
We did not make it to any of the shows as we like to get to bed early and get up to be in the sun early. We had no problems finding chairs because we got up early. If you tried to get a chair later in the day you would not find one in the shade. I did find that a lot of the chairs had towels on them but I never saw anyone using them.
I would definitely go to Viva Wyndama Maya again and would recommend it.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room get one in the 3000 block.

We just stayed there February 15th - 22. We had a group of 12 that stayed here and 4 of us got sick from the food preparation. One of the couples ended up getting bed bugs. There was not much for entertainment at the pool. Food was not very good. They were not good at stocking our fridge. Overall not very accommodating. The one bright spot was the beach it was fantastic!

This resort is a little hard to find especially if you are driving in from the Cancun airport at night & can't see any of the signs marking the location. But after getting to the hotel, the check in went very smoothly & the staff was very accommodating. No elevators so beware if you have problems with stairs--no problem here. Just ask for a room on ground level. Several specialty restaurants which were all EXCELLENT. No shortage of alcohol & the amount of food was plentiful. Staff in all areas of the hotel were extremely nice & helpful. The beach is great-you can walk to the ferry station in Playa del Carmen to go to Cozumel with no problems. Probably about 2-3 miles total in beach for either direction.

The resort was beautiful! Staff was great. Everyone was very nice and attentive. There were no language barriers. Most of the staff speak multiple languages fluently. The only thing is that there are four restaurants that you need to make a reservation for but can only make one reservation for every four days you are there, otherwise it's the buffet every other night. Buffet is good, but trying the different restaurants would have been nice.

Another thing that i agree with other reviews is that it is very slippery around the pool area when not walking on the mats. I almost fell numerous times. They are constantly wiping it down but there's always a wet spot to look out for.

Other than dining and slippery grounds near the pool area it is a wonderful place to go. Everyone is so nice and it is such beautiful area. I would recommend going and would go back in a heartbeat!
