“Great 7 days!”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

We just returned last night from a week at the Gran Porto Real. We had a great time! The restaurants offered great options. The buffet was good and had a different theme night every night. The grilled shrimp and fish were great on Carribean night! If you didn't want the buffet, they'd also give you choices like salmon or mixed fajitas. Maria's and the Italian restaurant were great. Room Service was excellent as well.

I was impressed with the ample amount of chairs at the pool and beach (I've been at resorts before where if you weren't up by 7:00 a.m. you didn't get a chair). The service was also great. Our maid, Elena was superb. Drink service at the pool and beach were top-notch. Pablo always made sure our Cervezas were full on the beach and Teresa provided the same great service at the pool. If we didn't feel like getting up for lunch, they'd even bring us a club or burger with fries to our pool chair.

Room Tip: Rooms were nice, but I'd spend a little more for the Ocean Front Room. We had a great view!! W...

Be sure and go to The il Pescatore restaurant and ask for Filiberto to receive excellent service. We ate there and he was our waiter and totally enjoyed our meal. The food was great but the service by Filiberto was the best during our entire week long vacation.

This is an ideal location if you want to shop & party, just one block from 5th ave and clubs, 10 minute walk to the Cozumel ferry. It is a small, compact resort, everything is just a few steps way but it felt crowded to me as there is no "green space" to enjoy. Pros/cons - excellent service/stay away from the timeshare "helpers" in the lobby; good food at both the mexican and italian restaurants but they are only open in the evening/ buffet food was terrible- food was dried out, no salad bar to speak of, long lines to have pancakes or omlets made; lots of lounge chairs available at the beach/the chairs are arranged very close together and not very close to the water; rooms 319 & 321 over looked the pool, not the ocean front we requested, the rooms were beautiful but very noisy from about 10am to 10pm. We hope to go back to the Playa area but not to this resort.

My review is a little late however better late than never.
My Wfe and I stayed at Gran Porto for our first time last February 2-10 to celebrate the last leg of our 25th anniversay trip.
We were both impressed with the cleanliness of the resort and the superior service from the staff.
Can not think of too many times that a staff person did not approach you without a friendly smile.
Our room was a beachfront walk out junior suite which was great however you really do not have much of a view of the ocean as the lounge cabanas are directly infront of the ground level suites.
To get the best view of the ocean a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor would be advisable.
The only small complaint we did have was a wedding that took place when we were there and the music from their DJ was louder than the music coming from the nightly entertainment show, and carried on until about midnight with the music continuing to increase in volume as the night when on.
We did finally approach the front desk to ask them to request that the DJ turn his music down a little as there were other paying guests in the resort.
We made special friends with Jose and Theresa who worked at lobby bar and their hospitality and service were exceptional.
The food at the buffet was very good and there always seemed to be a a good variety of selection with may items being changed on a daily basis.
We ventured accross the street (The Royal) to the chinese restaurant and the food and service was excellant.
We have no problem recommending this resort and have done so since our return to family and friends.
In fact we ejoyed ourselves enough to have booked a trip this year and will be staying at Gran Porto Feb 7 -16.
Hope to try a few of the other restaurants and maybe take a night time stroll down 5th avenue which is just packed with little shops..
I am confident if you give Gran Porto a try you won't be disappointed...most people !!

Room Tip: Second or third floor if you are choosing a beach front view as the first floor beach front rooms ar...

Stayed here Jan 15-22.Beautiful hotel, excellent staff in all the areas.Entertainment at the hotel every night if you choose to see it.We were in room 205,so music was a little loud if you wanted to go to bed early but it was over by 10:30 so we didn't mind at all.If you want quiet be sure and let them know. The waiters in the bars and at the restaurants did an excellent job, just to mention a few people (most names I have forgotten)we really enjoyed our service with Marco at the Albatros .The buffet had something different every day so you could always find something to eat.The Il Pescatore had great food and waiters Jaime and Elias were very good at their job.Our room maid Beatriz also did an excellent job with our room, always very clean and neat.If we needed any assistance with anything,we would go to Willie, down in the lobby.Always willing to help with any questions we had.We had a tour of Chichen Itza, our driver Boris and guide Gonzolo were very good.We learned a lot about the Mayans that day. Also the Xcaret park was very good, with the show at the end of the day,it was excellent.Beautiful costumes and lots of music and dancing.A lot of fun.The weather was hot and very humid but a nice change from our winters.Great place to go and would definitly like to go again sometime.

just got back after 2 weeks at the gran porto.basking in the mexican sun.on arrival we were shown to our junior suite.we were some what dissapointed at first because we did not get a room with a pool view as requested as it was a special birthday for me.we made a phone call to reception and spoke to a supervisor who said it was not allways possible to provide a room with a pool view .but without success .also the manager said no other rooms were available as the hotel was full.but if we would like to upgrade he could help.at 28pounds per night on top.isnt that amazing its all about money .in the end we just gave up .but we did hear other people asking about the same thing. otherwise we found the hotel fine but the rooms could do with a serious revamp. we would like to commend the staff who keep the whole place spotless.also would like to mention AURORA .ALBERTO .ADAL .EMMA .ADRIANA in the lobby bar.who realy looked after us.and a special guy DAVID MR COCKTAIL ... at the beach bar you name he can sort it .and JESUS the beach waiter.very hard worker. LUIS in the buffet very good.take a look in the mexican restaurant and italien both good. overall a very enjoyable holiday .the hotel nicely situated just off 5th avenue for that evening stroll after dinner and to meet friendly mexicans..

Room Tip: pool view if you can get one...
