We did the Mayan Experience tour and could not have been happier with our experience. Enrique was our guide and Victor was our driver. We were a small group, the four in my family in one other couple; started out about 7am and lasted about 13 - 14 hours. We toured the ancient pyramids of Chichen Itza, the ruins in Ek Balaam, snorkeled in the cenote, lunched in a Mayan village (some of the best food ever!), and toured the historical village of Valladolid. By having a personal guide we received in depth information on all of the sites, avoided being accosted by the many vendors at some of the sites, and when we did decide to make a purchase - we had an advisor on negotiations and the best suppliers.
This is a tour of ancient, historical sites - so it is out in the heat, in a tropical environment, be sure to have that in mind; wear light colored clothing, a hat, sun screen and bug spray - environmentally friendly versions are recommended by the archaeological associations. Be sure to wear comfortable, slip resistant shoes, and bring your camera. It is also not a bad idea to have a rain poncho or umbrella handy during the summer months. The heat is the worst part of the trip, but the swim in the cenote is very refreshing and breaks up the day as well as the stop for ice cream in Valladolid. There were a few individuals in wheelchairs - but it is VERY difficult to navigate the dirt and cobble stone paths with strollers or wheelchairs - possible, but difficult.
This was very easy to book and we received email confirmation on our pick-up time - great communication. I would HIGHLY recommend this group. As this was our first trip to Mexico, I was somewhat apprehensive, but I am happy to say I felt very safe the entire time in Playa del Carmen and while touring these sites.

We took the Mayan Experience tour, 4 of us in June. They picked us around 7am and we were gone for over 12hrs; so be prepared for a long day. But fun! We got to see some very awesome sights and swim in a beautiful cenote. The water was crystal clear extremely refreshing after being out in the sun.

The lunch was, ok, average at best and the last leg of the tour is through a Mayan town which was nice. I would suggest packing little snacks for the long day; something we wish we would have done. Also bring a poncho just in case...it rained on our tour and you do not stop! LOL...

We had a great time; my wife and two teenage daughter would go again in a heartbeat.

We took the Mayan Experience tour -- 9 of us, in July. 7am pickup and we were gone 13 hours, being dropped back at our hotel at 8pm. Private tour so no need to stop at any other hotels. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour.

We started at Chicken Itza early -- vendors were still setting up. 2 hours to walk around and 30 minutes to shop. It was SO hot here. I could have easily spent about 30 minutes less here due to the heat. Our guide was informative and we really appreciated the strategy of getting here early. As we were leaving the place was a zoo, so crowded with people trying to get in.

From here we went to Yok-Dzonot cenote. I was sure the water would be too cold for my liking, but it was wonderful! The kids all enjoyed jumping in. The adults liked just floating around, one even snorkeled (with equipment provided by our tour guide). The cenote provided life jackets. It was great and refreshing. I highly recomment a dip in a cenote, even if you think the water will be too cold, try it! After the heat at the ruins this was a perfect stop. We ate lunch here and the food was plentiful and very good. We did buy our own drinks.

After this we went to Ek Balam -- this is the jewel. We got there shortly before 4 and it closes at 5, so not a lot of time and I would have gladly spent 30 minute more here, so shortening the chichen Itza leg and using the time here is the only thing I would change about the tour. The kids loved being able to walk up the ruins. It was not crowded and very peaceful here. This was the highlight of the tour for us. Just a magical place.

One stop in the town of Valladolid (for about 30 minutes) where some of us shopped and others went and got ice cream, and then we were on our way back to our hotel. It was a long day but broken up by 4 activities so kept our interests and kept us moving at a reasonable pace.

I would highly recommend this tour group and will look to book another tour with them the next time I'm in Cancuun.

My partner and I had a tour on the 6th July (just the two of us) to Coba, a cenote, and Punta Laguna. The online video gave an incredibly accurate description of what to expect at each place, and the whole day was absolutely wonderful.

We were given biscuits in the morning as we had missed breakfast at the hotel (which was a nice touch), and were provided with water throughout the day. We arrived at Coba well before the crowds and our guide (Luis) was very well informed about the ruins. My partner is interested in linguistics and so he was very happy when Luis was able to tell us about the Mayan writing and language- far more than we would have expected our guide to know. When we found that we were ahead of schedule in Coba, Luis took us to see another part of it that the tours don't usually go to, and it was lovely to have the flexibility to do this (which you wouldn't get in a larger tour group). Also, riding bikes around Coba was great fun and a good way to cool off as the day began to heat up!

We stopped off at a cenote before lunch, which was perfectly timed as we needed to cool down. The cenote was beautiful and we were provided with snorkelling equipment which was a lovely extra. Our driver (Diego) was great and really got involved in the second part of the day, snorkelling with us in the cenote and looking for animals with us later in the day.
After lunch (a lovely Mexican buffet back at Coba) we went to Punta Laguna. We stopped at a Mexican village on the way where we got to see different animals and crafts. When we arrived we were taken by a local guide (along with Luis and Diego) to find spider monkeys in the wild, which was an amazing experience. We then zip wired across the lagoon (very refreshing) before canoing back across it and then going for a swim in a second cenote. It was just us in this centoe and we had to rapel into in and climb up a rope ladder to get back out (surprisingly hard work!). There were human skeletons at the bottom of the cenote, which Diego showed us while we were snorkelling. Once we were finished in the cenote, we watched a Mayan ritual before returning to our hotel.

Overall, the day was the best day of our holiday, with a bit of everything we could possibly want- archaeology, nature, and activity. I would recommend this tour to anyone going to this area of Mexico, and it was worth every penny. Do be aware, however, that a reasonable level a fitness is required (particularly getting out of the last cenote!) and so it wouldn't be suitable for anyone that is quite elderly or very young.

Thank you very much to Luis and Diego for giving us such a wonderful tour and for being able to answer every single question we had. We have never been on a tour before, and the level of knowledge they both had was well beyond what we were expecting. They were both fully engaged throughout the day and seemed genuinely interested in everything we were doing, making it feel like they weren't just 'doing their job', but instead coming along with us on a fun day out. So, again, a wonderful day overall and we would 100% recommend this trip!
